lego's routine!!!
Nov 22nd, 2004 at 5:16am

Right now my hair is measuring at 19 and a half inches. I have been dusting my hair every few days trying to get rid of the split ends. I use a wide toothed comb and a boar bristle brush, but I don't use it but a few days a week. Every other day I wash my scalp with herbal shampoo and then sometimes use infusium 23 leave in treatment on my ends. When I go to bed I either put my hair in a bun or braid it. Once a week I try to use hot oil treatments for permed or colored hair which I have both. And I have just recently learned you can leave it in all day. Last week I left it in for about an hour. Twice now I have almost went and chopped off a few more inches off my hair but I didn't thank god!!!! And I'm taking LOTS of vitamins. If anyone has any extra suggestions please post. Oh and I so am going to try jojoba oil as soon as I get some money, but it might be a little bit first I'm just about to move and that takes a lot of money UGGGGG. But thats ok I have spent quite a bit of money on my hair in the past few weeks.

Alright I'm getting back into my routine of putting my hair up before bed. But lastnight i twisted my hair too much and i broke a hair, it got twisted around my finger. It was upsetting. But now for my question are conditioner washes good for the hair? I read somewhere that using too much conditioner too often will dry the hair out so I don't even use conditioner anymore. I do use leave in treatments though. And I had my hubby measure my hair and it was 19 and 3/4 inches. I can't wait till it gets long again, it's driving me crazy.

I see that you use the Infusium 23 leave-in, I just started using that, too.  Just wondering how you like it, I'm not too sure that I'm overly blown-away by it so far.  In the past I've used the Biolage leave-in, but I picked up infusium while I was grocery shopping to see if I would like it, because it's about half the price, but I also think it's only woking half as well!  Curious as to your thoughts on it....

Hi Lego,

Just a thought; what kind of herbal shampoo are you using?  Do you know what the ingredients are?  That might be a good place to start looking if you are experiencing more splits.

Glad you're journaling! It is such fun!

It is the off brand off clairols herbal essences for coloed permed dry damaged hair. I don't know if you want all the ingredients, but it has water, sodium laureth sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate, cocamidopropyl betine, cocamide mea, jojoba extract, dog rose hips extract, tocopherol, peg-60 almond gylcerides, linoleamidopropyl pg-dimonium chloride phosphate, fragrance, hydroxyprooyl guar hydroxypropyltrimonium chloride, citric acid, propylene glycol, dmdmhydantoin, iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, tetrasodium edta, disodium edta, sodium chloride. Thats a lot to type. I was trying to get something with natural stuff in it.

OK now I know that I posted on conditioner only washes already but I don't remember where i posted at lol so I'm gunna ask again. I read on a site that using conditioner too much and too often can dry the hair out even more, is this true?

I do strictly conditioner wash. I've never had it dry out my hair.

Sometimes I read where someone tried it and it didn't work, but they were using a conditioner that I know didn't work for me. Other times I read someone used some sort of a technique I find less effective. I also read where someone says they tried it, but doesn't even say which conditioner they used, so how can you tell? So lots of the time, people try once and give up too quick.

The first time I CO washed, I used the VO5 I had around my house. It left my hair feeling greasy but dry (ick). So I went out and bought VO5 Kiwi Lime, which over a period of weeks made my scalp break out until I abandoned it. Then I found Suave Daily Clarifying conditioner, and since then I've also used VO5 Free Me Freesia and VO5 Hydrators.

When I do a scalp wash, it's once with one of these conditioners. When I wash in the shower, I end up stacking several conditioners, as I'm a conditioner junkie.

Also, the products I've tried that worked were all cheap. I think when you pay extra for a conditioning product, you're paying $$$ for the extra residue they'll leave on your hair, and you're hoping this is a good thing. Roll Eyes

Well I went out lastnight to Walmart and got some suave condition. I bought the naturals milk and honey and daily clarifying. I tryed the honey and milk and I liked it, it made my hair very soft. But I still can't figure out the conditioner only wash, I tryed it but it left my hair dirty so I went ahead and washed it.

I think I am doing something wrong with the CO wash. I tryed it and my scalp was dirty and greasy. Since I wasn't sure how to do it I went ahead and put it all over my hair and scalp, used it as if it were shampoo but it didn't help. Does it take a few times of doing it for the hair to get used to it? Help please!!!!!

I don't know if the Suave milk and honey conditioner would work for CO washing, as I haven't tried that one. I avoid anything that sounds like it might have protein in it (milk, for instance). Try VO5 Free Me Freesia or Hydrators, both very cheap.

I only CO wash, whether it is a scalp wash or a full-length wash. I think it would probably be ok to shampoo my scalp (actually, that would probably be 4-6" the way I do it), but I don't think "probably" is enough reason to change from products I like that are working for me.

eKatherine--do you deep condition?  If so, how do you wash out the deep conditioner w/ c/o washing?

If I deep condition with coconut oil (just enough to dampen the hair, not enough to make it drippy), I find it comes out more easily with my standard cleansing conditioner than with shampoo. Who'd'a thunk it?

I haven't tryed oiling yet, but I have been doing hot oil treatments from walmart. I posted on the long hair care forum. It was about recipes I found to make your own stuff with things in your refridgearator, or cabnets. But here I'll post the site page and yall can tell me what you think.

They use a lot of olive oil there. I know some people like it, but lots of people find it impossible to wash out, or find that it makes their hair crunchy. My impression is that it's hard to put on just a little bit, too.

I recommend using coconut oil for your oil treatments, and you can mix it with jojoba. Nut oils such as sweet almond, apricot kernal, macadamia, and walnut oil are light, too.

Read the ingredients list on your "hot oil" treatments. Lots of products labeled "hot oil" don't actually contain oil, rather other ingredients that they think will condition your hair.
