NO compliment received!
Dec 1st, 2004 at 2:47pm

OK, so Thanksgiving rolls around....finally, my chance to show off what I have learned from the LL boards, right?  A day where I get to dress up nicely for a change and really get to do something nice with my hair, maybe a chance to get a few oooh's & aaah's, right?  Well, let me go back a little here, first.  I've got this sister-in-law who ALWAYS has her hair perfectly done, not a hair out of place.  She always manages to have her hair pulled up just georgously in the most interesting ways with twists and hidden clips that leave you just staring at her hair wondering 'how on earth did she do that?'.  I don't mean to say this as if we don't get along, because we very much so do...I don't mean it like that, I am just insanely jealous of her hair do's, that's all!  So anyway, I spend about an hour between my hair and makeup, washing my hair, using the leave-in treatment, carefully drying my hair on the cool setting, using a round brush to get some nice body and curl around my face, and then the hair-do...what I thought would gather at least a few "how'd ya do that"'s or wow, or neat or nice or SOMETHING!  I carefully put my hair up with hair sticks, It was more than just your average bun with a stick through it, I took the time to come up with a way to wind the hair around the stick and then secure it, it looked really cool, but I couldn't do it again if I tried, I have no idea what I did!  Being that no one else in my family, or that I know, wears or has ever worn hair sticks, I thought for sure someone would say something......WRONG!  NOTHING!  I was so bummed that by the end of the night I pulled the sticks out and just let my hair down.  So much for trying!  Why does it seem that when you execute zero effort into your hair, like when you take precisely 2.457 seconds to throw it up into a bun and poke a stick into it, just cuz it was bothering you, that's when you'll get compliments galore.  But, put some effort into it and wait for a compliment.....well, don't hold your breath!  I don't get it! Undecided  There must be some kind of scientific laws out there to back it up, that's the only thing I can figure!

It must be a law! I don't get how come it seems you get all these compliments when you haven't made much of an effort and then zilch when you have.

Don't let it get you down or make it stop you from trying though, Maggie! If anything, do it for yourself...to make yourself feel good. You don't need anyone to tell you that. You da WOMAN!  Grin

That's right!  I always wear my hair for myself, not for
anyone else.  That's the reason I'm growing my hair
long, for me- Because all my family thinks I should chop
it off like I had it 18 months ago!

It's not just with hair but often clothing too. I can get really dressed up thinking I look great and no one compliments me  Sad still knowing you look good gives you extra confidence so the important thing is that YOU KNOW you look great!  Wink

Most people have no clue what takes time and what doesn't when it comes to updos and long hair in general. The most compliments I ever got was the day my bun looked like it was going to fall out and I tied a scarf around it to secure the ends in place.

Um, except for the time I did a half double crown braid with a criss cross overlap at the front hairline. Everyone recognized that as being from another dimension. (A bit like my avatar photo)
