Hello - I'm new!
Jan 3rd, 2005 at 8:54pm

I have become a real fan of this site, so I thought it was time to introduce myself properly.

I have shoulder-length, straight hair, VERY fine, but quite thick.  It is mostly blonde/light brown, but the gray is beginning to be rather noticeable now, especially round my face.  I used to cover it with those colors that fade out after about a month, but I've now decided just to let it go its own way!  And I rather like it!!  It's in really good condition - I haven't been near a hairdresser in almost a year now.  I trim my own bangs and will get my husband to trim the ends when they need it.  I have started to heed the advice given by other members - treat your hair like precious silk!

Now that I have suffered through the horrible can't-do-anything-with-it stage, I am loving being able to wear my hair up in various ways, or just leave it down.  My work requires hair to be tied back, but it's great to have lots of variety.  My favourite style is the French braid - I mastered French braiding by doing my daughter's long hair when she was a child.  I can whip my hair into a great French braid in about two minutes and it stays looking great all day.

Thanks for providing such a great place to talk HAIR!!!  I look forward to catching up with everyone's news.

WELCOME, happy to have you among us.  Smiley I wish I could do French braids so fast, I'm just learning and it takes me along time then I end up with a lumpy looking thing.  Undecided

Warm welcome, Jilly. Oh how I wish I could do a decent quick French Braid! I'm getting better, but mine still look a bit amatuer.  Tongue

I look forward to seeing your tips and posts on the boards.  Smiley

Welcome Jilly!  Glad to have you around.  I too find the french braid an excellent style and am glad I worked so hard to learn it when my hair was a manageable length.

What kind of work do you do that requires you hair to be pulled back all the time?

Welcome, Jilly!

It's nice to have another braider among us!

I, too must wear my hair "up" or "back" for work (I'm a nurse).... I've been making 'upside down' french braids - bending at the waist and starting from the nape, going towards the top... I prefer a "bun" on the top of my head (@ only 5'1" I can use all the height I can get - ha ha) - and that way, I have height and can use susan's beautiful hair sticks and still have a french braid! Grin

I look forward to reading your posts on the boards.
Nice to have you here.

Welcome, Jilly!

Ohh, to frenchbraid hair easily... *daydreams*  I frenchbraid my hair at night to keep it out of my face, but it never looks particularly good.. *laughs*

At any rate, welcome to the boards!

I am a nurse, so it's hair off the face for me at work.  I work part-time, and like you, I am a keen cyclist.  I also go windsurfing, which is another time my hair needs to be well tied up.

Yippee another cyclist!  What kind of cycling do you do?  Touring, mountain, trails, commuting?

I work with a couple of windsurfers.  During the "season", they frequently take off from work for "board meetings".  (One being the president of the company makes that possible).  I wish my body would let me try the sport, but for now, I'll be happy with my cycling.
