Hello to everyone. I am so happy to find a place to discuss long hair. All the women in my family have short hair so now that my hair is passed my shoulders I am getting some comments. I just got my first pair of longlocks hairsticks yesterday and they are the best. I wore them all day and practically forgot about them they held my hair so well. I am going to throw away all my cheap hair sticks. I do have a question. Does anyone have suggestions on how to store their longlocks hair sticks? Right now I am just keeping them in the shipping tube wrapped in the tissue paper. PS. Pardon any mistakes I make this is my first time to be on a message board.

I'm afraid I have yet to buy myself some LL hairsticks. (I do intend to soon, though.)

There are loads of lassies (and laddies) on the board that have them though and I'm sure have all got their own methods for keeping the precious sticks in good nic.

Would you mind telling, which pair of hairsticks you bought? Maybe I can remember drooling them in the shop Grin

Right now I'm keeping all my good hairsticks in a ordinary glass on my combing table. They're so pretty that it's nice to have them in someplace visible. I'm contemplating on buying one of Rapunzel's jewelry rolls, though. I reckon it would be more hairstick-friendly.

Welcome! Glad to see you jump right in the fun here. Owning a pair of LL sticks makes you part of a very special group of long hairs!

Storing the sticks is important - you don't want them damaged! I have a silk jewelry roll that I put my special sticks in. I keep each pair separate from other sticks, and I store the pair so that the beads are not touching (top to bottom). When traveling, I roll the sticks in a cotton dish towel that I have trimmed to be the right size for the sticks. I roll one stick to cover it completely, then add the next stick and roll, etc.

How NOT to store them:
Do not put them in a container with lots of other sticks.
Do not put them in a container filled with rice (the rice will scratch the finish).
Do not throw them in a drawer with lots of other junk.

After my first dozen pair of susan's hairsticks I realized I simply HAD to find a way to display them - they really are individual works of art, and I wanted to see them!

So - one day I had a brainstorm:
I had a beautiful rectangular wooden box with removable lid.

1. I took the handle off the lid, sanded it and used a drill press to make large holes through the lid. (holes are double the size of my thickest stick.) 4 holes down, 14 holes across.

2. Then, I painted the whole box: one coat of white, then one coat of black then one coat of pistachio green, then used sandpaper to distress. I then painted a white ribbon around the top edge of the box with little pink/salmon flowers and dark pistachio leaves.

3. Next I put on several coats of clear enamel over the paint - especially inside the holes - to make certain there was no possibility of scratching or rubbing on the sticks. The inside of the holes feels like glass.

4. Then, I put a rectangular piece of felt inside the bottom of the box, then a rectangular piece or quilt batting (high loft) then another piece of felt - (so that the stick points will have a soft pillow to rest against and will have no possibility of fracturing/chipping on the points) 1/2 of the sticks are visible above the lid of the box.

So - I have 4 dozen beautiful works of art displayed on my bathroom counter right in front of the mirror. The problem..... Now I have too many sticks for the box - But... I happen to have another just like it - so I guess it's off to the "wood shop" in the garage again!!! I just wish I'd stop procrastinating and figure out how to post pictures here - so I could share a photo of it with you! Eventually.....

Thanks again for the wonderful welcome. This site really feels like home. Nightowl I like your idea of making a special box to display them. My challenge is finding a place high enough my 3yr old can't get to them and he can get to alot of places!!! And thanks Bikerbraid for your tips on how not to store them. I guess I will get a silk jewelry roll for now. I just ordered my second set of LL hairsticks so I am going to have to think of some type of storage soon.

I bought Pearl Snow (my first pair) and just bought Peach Pecan and can't wait for them to get here. I know my husband is going to roll his eyes when another shipping tube from LL shows up in the mailbox. But even Mr. Doesn't notice anything not computer related noticed my hairsticks and complimented them. Quote:

I've been drooling over the catalogue for months now but unfortunately with the exchange rate the way it is simply cannot afford the prices, let alone the shipping rate! I guess I'll just have to stick to African beaded accessories... (sigh)
