Proud Brunnette

My hair is finally to my shoulders.  I am glad my mom lives in another city so she can't comment on my hair all the time.  Last week she told me women with long hair are wierd because they must be obsessed with their hair.  Maybe so but there are worse things to be obsessed with.

I have been reading about co-ing but I am not sure about it.  It seems like it would be a good idea.  I tried it once but my fine hair just felt "coated" and dirty.  I wonder if a different conditioner would be better and I didn't do any kind of rinse either.  Perhaps the problem?

My hair care routine is brunnette shampoo and conditioner twice a week.  Dandruff shampoo and condition Wednesday night.  The weekend I use a reconditioner because my hair is so fried from coloring.

Speaking of coloring...I like being a brunnette but now that I am older my hair seems to have lost it's color.  The color looks very flat.  My mother has the same flat color brown hair.  My experiments with henna have been the worst.  It looks like there was a mud fight in my bathroom and my son was crying because he thought my hair was going to turn green, not to mention my hair was a tangled mess and it took me two days to get all the henna out of my hair.  It was like I had been rolling in the mud.  Perhaps if I mix the henna with the restructuring conditioner?

I don't have an opinion about coloring- except that it's best to avoid it if you can, since it always damages hair and takes away its natural shine. If you think your hair looks boring, you might be able to help the situation a bit by getting new hair accessories that flatter your current color. Colors you wear near your hair affect, whether your hair looks dull or nice.

And I agree...hair obsession is quite harmless, and fun besides. Grin

i think my hair became a lot more shiny after i colored it! and it grows beyond my waist and has nearly no split ends ... i think there's dye and dye ... better do it yourself, take something with the lowest possible developer and don't leave the mess in a minute longer than mentioned on the bottle. my own mistake was to redye the upper layers every year ... i quit doing that now. i also dye unfrequently: only once every 3 - 4 months. i learned to live with roots. since i use the lowest developer the color does gat washed out a bit and so the transition is "acceptable".

*laughs*  Brunnette Texan, I don't think there's a lady on this board who isn't obsessed with long hair!  But it's not a bad thing at all...

I, too, have had problem with COing in the past.  Recent discovery; I found that mixing my shampoo half and half with conditioner works wonders.. you get the benefits of soft, conditioned hair, without the "greasies" that some ladies have a problem with when they try regular COing.

It's worth a shot...

Thanks guys.  I have to admit it has been harder to swear off coloring my hair than it has been to give up drinking Cokes.

I have been considerring doing a coffee rinse but now I have chickened out after reading how people said it made their hair smell.  Maybe I will fiddle around with something tomorrow.  I "accidentally" forgot to tell hubby I am off work tomorrow.  I am doing better on my New Year's resolution to spend more quality me time that I thought I would.  Peace and quiet is getting addictive Grin

I am so excited with my new hairsticks.  Hubby is probably getting tired of me with my hair up and I know my little boy hates it.  He loves to play with my hair.  I have no doubt he will marry a long-haired woman some day.  And now my second pair is on the way.  Yeah!! Yeah!! Yeah!!  But no more until I finish this eight week semester at school.  That is what I have decided.  One pair for each semester I finish...unless I find some I just have to have.

Signed up for a beading class and it went fine but I look at all the beads and wonder, What would Susan do with this?

Going to GNC tomorrow come h*ll or high water.  I want some hair vitamins.  I will be a Rapunzel now matter what my mother says.  And when I am old I will be a silver-haired Rapunzel!

I measured my hair tonight.  13 inches!!! Quite possibly the longest it's ever been (including during the 80s)  Is it my imagination that if you don't check the catalogue every 10 seconds everything will be sold?  Embarrassed

No, I don't think it's your imagination. I've been dreaming of buying a new pair and browsing the catalog- and it's just amazing how fast new sticks have sold lately. Just see What's New- everything there is sold. In hours, probably.
I guess the only way to get new sticks is to not move from computer for a while...

Yeah, Susan should probably just get rid of her clearence section.  Don't think she ever has to put anything in there.

Coffee Rinse experiment

I decided to try coing again followed by a coffee rinse.  I can't quite go 3 days like I did when I shampooed my hair but that's ok.  Or it could be the silicone I put in my hair.  I like the subtle color change that the coffee made.  My dark roots blend a little better with my old highlights.  The only drawback it that I could swear I smelled coffee all day.  My co-workers said my hair didn't smell like coffee.  Imagine that!!  Grown women sitting around smelling each others hair. Roll Eyes  I am going to do coing again tonight followed by another coffee rinse.  Last time I steeped dried rosemary and cinnamon in the coffee, this time I think I will add perhaps vanilla and see what my hair smells like.  **Correction** I actually put expresso in my hair made with plain old Folgers  If the smell continues to bother me I may switch to vingegar

I just couldn't stand the old brassy blonde highlights so I gave in and colored my hair.  I found a new product out by Revlon, Red Brunnette.  I am fairly pleased with the color, almost the color of a dark chocolate candy bar with red highlights.  The coffee rinse begant to worry me, every time I did it I shed like crazy.  I am not really prone to shedding and I wonder if the acidity in the coffee was causing some of the weaker hairs to break.

Well, I did an AVC rinse today and shed just as much as with the coffee.  I don't know what to do  ???  Perhaps I will just return to my normal shampoo routine but I was hoping the co-ing would help my hair grow faster and my hair looks terrible after co-ing if I don't do some kind of acid rinse.  I looked at the hairs, some looked like they were shed and some looked broken.
