i was reading on the morroccomethod site about their henna ... according to him it can't produce horror colors on dyed hair since his stuff only contains true henna. i wonder if anyone in here already tried his stuff.

i keep wondering if shouldn't try a good henna once but the good ones seem fairly expensive, it is and stays a big mess and i am afraid you can't reuse chem dye over it.
argh .... never-ending dilemma!

Styg- I was thinking about ordering his henna, too for the very reason you mentioned.  On the other hand, I
don't know what would be different about his henna, the other henna sites say you should do  strand tests, waiting, ect.  I want
to do henna, but I plan on waiting a couple of months.
I'm a bit put off by the mess and time it takes to do it.
I like the results I've seen in pictures with henna, though, and if you want realy dark you can mix it with Indigo(so I've read).

My concern with the henna wouldn't be so much putting it on already dyed hair but what would happen if you put dye over hair that had henna on it.  ??? Chemical dyes like Revlon, Clairol etc. used to have warnings telling you not to put them over hair that had been color treated by other means. The henna would probably work fine for someone who doesn't plan on using chemical dye for years and years but if you but chemical dye over henna it could possibly cause major damage.   Shocked Cry

of course i would like to keep the color i have now ... i think i have never changed my mind about the color. my only fear is that i am not entirely sure what my true hair color really is ... if it's rather light brown than dark colors ar apparently unachievable with henna and then i'll be pretty screwed cuze i don't think you can use dye over it! i am still wondering how long the coating stays on the hair ... ok, the color fades, but does that mean the hair is entirely rid off it? as well, doesn't the coating suffocate equally the hair like silicones can do? i have so many questions that keep me from trying. it's not like i have just two inches of hair i can just cut off if i don't like it.

is the typically greyish brown "medium brown" cuze it shows pretty dark on his color charts but then so do most colors apparently. and light brown seems rather blondish to me. argh, it upsets me to think i can't even recall my own color ... i have been dyeing for so long now, how healthy can it be?

That's exactly whats keeping me from trying henna  right now,
the fact that it seems you cant go back to chemical dye.  It would seem to be a real commitment-on the other hand, I'm not sure
I want to use chemical dye on my hair any more, either, because of the health concerns.  I was just going to go back to my natural brown with chemical dye- I suppose I could do that once and then just let it grow out naturally- but now I've got this grey coming in- not that I have a problem with grey on other people-but I'm not ready to go grey yet!!  But they're coming in as I can't decide what the heck to do!!  Maybe I'll decide I like the salt and pepper look.

the thing is, i am quiting chemical dye totally. i've been using it for way too long and honestly, the molecules they use are very closely related to PPD! i am not going to trust the chemical industry cuze there's not enough investigation to really show the risks on long term users. no proof doesn't mean no risks. so it's henna or nothing at all. and i've read you can dye with permanent dye over henna (i suppose you better wait at least three months though). it does interact though with semi-permanent dyes that have metallic dyes in them.

I intend to try henna maybe this spring or summer.  I'm not afraid of a little red, as long as it's subtle.  I know
what you mean about the chemical dye, also, I don't think I will be able to acheive my long hair goals without
stopping the chemical dye.  My hair gets damaged rather easily.  I'm also intrigued by the conditioning and
volumizing properties of henna.    But I for myself will probably wait, since I have bleached hair on my ends.  I will probably wait until it gets longer, so that if I have to cut a litlle off, It won't be such a catastrophe.   I did try henna once-about 20 or more years ago.  It was something like hennalucent, I think.  I didn't like the colour, it came out too dark, but I remember my hair felt well conditioned.    I never tried it again, after that.( I think the fact that i had permed hair at that time affected the colour.)

My aunt used henna for years and had success with it.  Smiley I tried it when I was in high school but I used it as a rinse and didn't see much difference in the color of my dark brown hair. When I'm sure I'm through with the chemical dye I might go with the dark henna and use that instead. At this point I might continue with the chemical dye a couple more years than be done with it. I have used it for about 11 years continuious and I worry not so much about it's effect on my hair (which seems fine) but how it might effect my overall health in the long run.  Undecided

autumn i am in the exact same position but i am rather worried about the possible hidden dangers ... i wanted to switch earlier to henna but my bf gets absolutely annoying about anything smelly and messy.  Roll Eyes but now i have found a good excuse, so good that even he doesn't dare to dye his hair anymore. anyway, what i like about henna is that the color changes (although apparently it can stay up to a year) and that you can change now and then more radically from color what i'd never do with chem dye ... and i hope that in 5-6 years all the chem dye will be cut out and if i want to stop then it won't be painful.
actually, henna is a good strategy to change something without cutting.

I know that black chemical dye is the one that is most dangerous and of course that is the one I use.  Cry Some have speculated that it was the black hair dye that contributed to Jackie Kennedy's fatal lymphoma (sp?) since she used it for years and years. I am definitely not happy to be using it but I love the color. Every time I color my hair I tell myself it should be the last time but  I don't want to go back to plain old brown hair Sad and then the growing out period...ugh.  Tongue Dark henna seems like it might be a good option so I think I will look more into the pros and cons.  ???

yes, due to PPD. i dunno about america since apparently they are usually way less strict about such matters but in europe everything was replaced by ... molecules that are very close to it. so you wonder what the difference is lol.

to keep you informed: my chem dye will stay in the cupboard and catch dust. i finally bought ahmad (type of henna), herbal henna (dark brown and black) and lotus powder plus from Everyday Mehndi. already tried the lotus (conditioning herbal mix, smells divine when hair is dry). hair feels fortified mwhahahaha.

it's a bit too early yet for roots touch up (lotus also seemed strangely to have homogenized my color so my roots are less visible) but i was thinking of trying to mix a bit of black with conditioner for a slight darkening. i think i'll be deffo a fan of the mess. i think it all smells good though.

Conditioning color - the best of both worlds!  Let us know how this works, long term.  Sounds interesting.

sure ... henna means: no more faded color on length and no more roots  Grin
and i might even be able to go darker (chem dye doesn't stay all that well on me since i refused to go higher in developer)
