Happy May Day!!

Have Suave and VO5 actually worked for you in the past?    I used both up until I was a teenager, and you couldn't pay me to go back! In my experience, the only things worth washing with the cheap stuff are horses, cars, sinks and tubs. But definitely not human hair.
You probably think that my opinion is biased because I use HE every day, but I really think it would be the wisest investment. I say that out of experience, believe me. The fragrances are addictive, the leave-in's are awesome now that they've been reformulated, and HE really doesn't cost that much. I was blowing all kinds of $$ on Pantene before, so I was also looking for something less expensive.

Anyway, I'm not trying to sway your opinion too much...just letting you know what I've experienced personally. If the cheap stuff works better for you, though, I'd stick with it, by all means. But beware the ammonia content!

Ammonia?!!!  Really?   Sad   Where does it say that?  *sigh*  That's it:  the next time I get ready to buy new shampoo you HAVE to come to Wally World with me!!!   Grin

And yes, the cheap stuff works for me.  Why?  *shrug*  I don't know.  Oh, the more expensive shampoos and conditioners work for me, too.  Generally, as long as the product contains some cones then it'll work for me.  I'm a cone kinda gal.   Smiley  Right now, though, I cannot justify the expense of fancy shampoo and condish when I know darn good and well that cheaper Suave works.

And yes, I chose Suave.   Grin  Again!  I chose the Radiant Brunette s+c.  I decided not to buy any leave-ins or finishing products because I first wanted to see if the s+c alone would improve my quality.  It has--in only two washings, my hair is once again sleek, shiny and 98% tangle free.  My hair just loves Suave...why fight it?!
................but now I'm worried about ammonia!  Angel Spun, is the ammonia factor another reason why you use HE?  --as in HE has low or no ammonia?

Other
Bought a new purse at Wally World for $10.  Technically, it's a "tote"...I wonder if I can find an image of it online?  Hold the phone while I search..............no, of course not.   Smiley  Suffice it to say that it's big and roomy and has pretty spring/summer colored stripes on it.

Hubby has applied for a job as a rail tester (as in for the railroad).  Should he actually be hired for this job, ohmygosh...it would be fantastic on so many levels.  He hasn't worked in two years because of the pain caused by several degenrating discs in his back.  It would be wonderful to once again be a two-income family.  The job would involve quite a bit of travel so I could once again have some "me" time.  I love my husband, don't misunderstand.  But I'm the kind of woman who needs some alone time every now and then, and I haven't had any of that in two years.  *sigh*  So we'll just have to wait and see.  I also have an idea that I could lose some weight if he wasn't around all the time.  Now that sounds terrible, doesn't it?!!!  It sounds as if I'm blaming him for my extra pounds.  Wellll   Undecided   maybe I am.  If we're both on a diet at the same time, no problem.  But if I try to eat healthy and exercise alone, without him doing the same?  Fuggitaboutit.

Quote:
ARE YOU ON A RELIGIOUS PATH ... OR A SPIRITUAL ONE?

There are so many different religions, and branches of religions, that it's virtually impossible to list them all.  Many individuals spend their life moving from one religion to another, hoping to find the one that is best for them.  If they can find one that comes close to their personal beliefs, they feel lucky, and will usually associate themselves with it ... at least until they can find that perfect one.  There is nothing wrong with connecting with others who share your beliefs, but if your main focus is on finding a religion you can become part of, you may find yourself walking what I refer to as a RELIGIOUS, or outward path.

If you are seeking to connect with the Divine through your quiet inner voice, rather than through the teachings of others, you are on what I call a SPIRITUAL path... one that leads you inward.  A Spiritual journey can open up paths to many wonderful new adventures.  You'll discover wisdom and insights that you might easily miss if you're determined to stay on a single path that has been made by others.

Some will tell you if you wander off the main path that you'll get lost.  They say it's not possible to combine religions, or walk more than one path.  It's my personal belief that not only CAN it be done, but it SHOULD be done. I say this because there are so many beautiful truths in every path. If you choose to study or follow just one in your lifetime, you'll be missing spiritual insights and ideas that can enrich your world. It's like hanging on to one single piece of a Divine puzzle, and never getting to see the entire picture. For me, the more pieces of that puzzle I can gather and piece together, the more beautiful the picture becomes!

Let your heart lead you and don't be afraid to explore.  Don't worry about giving a name to your current path or religion, or if there might be a better one available.  Just take it all in and enjoy your spiritual journey!

This quoted from the just received Inner Circle newsletter (www.wicca.com). ;

These words especially --
Don't worry about giving a name to your current path or religion

--strike a very deep chord within me because I *do* keep trying to define who I am in terms of faith.  Maybe I simply need to give recognition to the fact that what I am does not have a name and that's acceptible!

I believe in God and a lot of the christian tenets (but I am not christian).
I find a lot of the pagan beliefs appealing (but I am not pagan).

I believe in angels and ghosts.  I believe that some people can "see" the future.  I believe in reincarnation.  I believe that on some level, all living things have a sort of soul (that includes humans, animals, trees, flowers, dirt, ALL things).

And who said I have to pick just ONE thing to be, huh?  Who said I can only be christian, or jewish, or buddhist, or pagan??  Why can't I believe in them all, huh?  Why can't I read my bible AND the Torah AND the Quaran AND Living Wicca, and garner something useful from ALL of them, huh?

I just don't see how we humans will ever achieve any sort of world peace until we stop boarding ourselves up behind our barred windows and start learning as much as we can about one another.

Just my opinion.

Uhhh, you'll have to excuse the previous rambling.  I hope y'all know that it was not directed at anyone in particular.  Apparently, perhaps subconsciously, these feelings have been slowly simmering right below the surface for quite some time, and the "lid" could no longer be contained.   Smiley  It's good to get those thoughts and feelings out in the open now and then, don'cha think?  Kind of a cleansing thang.  Yeah.  *ahem*

Hair
Day 3 of the Suave Radiant Brunette s+c.  Still lovin' it.  Hair is shiny and soft, and the tangles are back down to a minimum.  Oh, I have to tell you something my hubby said to me last night.  He saw the Suave bottles in the shower and said, "You know (that) won't work...because you're already a brunette and you're already radiant."  Awwwwwwwwww!  For that bit of ego booster he got a hug and a smooch.   Smiley

Other
Saw Dr. C this morning for the results of my ca125--all is good.  BP was 120/88, ca125 is 13 (very normal), heart and lungs sound fine!  I even lost a couple of pounds somewhere along the line.  And it only cost us $20.  The way my health insurance is set up, with *this* particular facility doing the lab work, there was no charge for the ca125 test and only the $20 co-pay for an office visit.  Hubby says we save $57 doing it this way.  Works for me!

You can ramble all you want as long as you don't attack anyone here!  Grin

And I agree, sometimes it is very beneficial to just get the words and thoughts out.  It helps solidify your opinions and beliefs.

No news is good news.  I think I'll measure again on.................June 21, the first day of Summer.

Other
Maybe it's a simple case of spring fever...but I have a strong sense of needing to find--no, not find.  Search-- I have a strong urge to search different spiritual paths.  "Find" to me implies that I expect to discover a definite way.  I may not.  Perhaps I'll spend my whole life in search of a spiritual path that suits MOST of my needs.  Maybe I won't find only one way.  Maybe I'll find  a number of spiritual paths that I can combine and walk!  That would be fine...there's no such thing as perfect...at least I will be learning, expanding my mind, letting go of my "religious" boundaries.

I've printed off some things about Buddhism and also the Tao.  To those of you who read my journal (you poor souls!!),
feel free to recommend books or websites regarding any and all spiritual paths/faiths/philosophies.

Day 5 of using the Suave Radiant Brunette s+c.  Still loving it.  Hair is shiny, soft and almost tangle-free.  No bad effects yet.  *fingers crossed*

Another dark and rainy day here in SE Missouri.  It would be a perfect day to be at home, eating popcorn and reading a book.

Still reading about Buddhism from things I've printed off the internet.  I can't afford real books right now, so the web stuff will have to suffice.

I did a 10 minute meditation this morning, after breakfast and before getting ready for work.  I thoroughly enjoyed it!  Even if I gain nothing else from Buddhism I'd like to continue on with the meditation.  It's a very calming and soothing activitiy.   Smiley
A couple of good websites I've discovered:

Hair
My hair does NOT like the blouse I'm wearing today.  The collar is kind of high and stiff (not the type of top I usually wear) and it was causing big ol' tangles in my length!  So hair is now safely in a bun and much happier.   Smiley

I keep rereading this line that I typed the other day...when I was hopped up on sugar or something...and it bothers me.  So I figure I need to look up the definition of "christian"...this from www.dictionary.com:

Quote:
Chris·tian    ( P )  Pronunciation Key  (krschn)
adj.
Professing belief in Jesus as Christ or following the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.
Relating to or derived from Jesus or Jesus's teachings.
Manifesting the qualities or spirit of Jesus; Christlike.
Relating to or characteristic of Christianity or its adherents.
Showing a loving concern for others; humane.

n.
One who professes belief in Jesus as Christ or follows the religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus.
One who lives according to the teachings of Jesus.

Hmm...I believe in Jesus as Christ...I try to live my life according to the teachings of Jesus...I try to show a loving concern for others and I try to always be humane.  Hey, that's me!  Whadd'ya know?  --i AM a christian!   Shocked  Just because I don't belong to any particular denomination and don't go to church every Sunday--those *things* have very little to do with being a christian.  Right?  Right...now shut up about it already, would ya?!  Sheesh, Trisha, get a grip!   Grin

lol Trisha

There's nothing wrong with being a Christian while simultaneously appreciating and understanding the principles behind other faiths. Just like there's nothing wrong with being Jewish, Buddhist, Wiccan, Muslim, etc. etc. etc. etc!!! while simultaneously appreciating and understanding the principles of other faiths.
In many ways, they're all different, and in a way, they're all the same.

I am what I call a "free" Christian...I don't attend church or identify with any particular denomination, but am a Christian nonetheless. I do try to live in accordance with the teachings of Jesus & the Bible, etc.
But I also keep an open mind and can appreciate the values behind other religions while remaining content in my own faith.
I'm not a fan of organized religion, but I understand that a lot of people feel the need to congregate in some way or another in order to reaffirm their faith to each other and to themselves. That or they just show up for the free food & socializing. *shrug*  Grin
But personally, I'm all for finding whatever makes sense to you as an individual and pursuing faith with a free, unbiased mind. At least for the most part.

Er, I mean... *cough* disregard everything I just said. I am pure evil and a true heathen. Fear me. *cough*  Wink

Hair
My new favourite style is...hmm, does it have a name?  Hmm...I'll call it The Combo Do.   Smiley   Here's how I "do" it:
The front/top part of my hair (from ears up) gets pulled into a ponytail at the back of my crown.  Then this tail and the remainder of my length gets pulled into a bun and secured with a clip.  So it's a combination of ponytail and bun, hence the name.  It's very comfy, and looks very neat and stylish.

Other
It's final exams week here at Southeast, so Yours Truly will spend most of her time electronically scoring said tests.  Yep, I grade those "bubble sheet" tests that the professors are so fond of using.  Not a difficult job since, thanks to the wonders of modern technology, machines do most of the work for me.  But it's the insanity of scoring one test after another test after another test after another test that gets to me.  *sigh*  I know, I know--at least I have a job.   Tongue

However...!  Next Monday we Southeast employees start "summer hours"--everybody gets off one hour early!  And that means little ol' me can leave at 3:00!!!  Working for this university *does* have certain advantages and this is one of them.

Who is the host of that show?  Is it a blonde woman who is a psychic?  I saw this woman on a talk show and was meaning to watch an episode of her show.  I just can't remember who she was now nor the show!

Maybe the spirits are trying to tell me something..  Smiley

No, no, that's the show on Sci Fi with, uhhhhhh...Oh, Lord, I can't remember!  Google, here I come............................................................................
.....Aha!  Proof Positive with Amanda Tapping.  That was a good one, too, but I don't believe it's being aired anymore.  The show I'm talkin' about is pure fiction (or IS it?!)  and stars Jennifer Love-Hewitt.  Or is she just Jennifer Hewitt now?  ...I can't keep up with 'em.

Oh, yeah, I forgot about that one!  I only saw one episode of Medium, and I remember liking it...but for some reason we never watched it again.  Probably some other show on at that same time that we were into.

Hair
Combo Do today...I like this style more every time I use it.   Smiley  I wish we had a digital camera so I could show you guys my hair.  Maybe some day!

Other
Hubby and I have decided to return once more to a low carb life.  Back in the latter part of 2003, after the cancer ordeal had ended, we did the Atkins diet.  Loved it...we both felt terrrific and lost weight.  Well, after a few months we got lazy and bored, and quit.  Guess what came back for a visit?  Uh-huh, the weight...and then some.  We've tried the low fat diets, watching calories, simply eating "healthy"--none of it works.  Watching our carbs is the only eating plan we've found that works for both of us, and works well.  I get paid this Friday, so that night or Saturday morning we'll purge the pantry of no-no's and then go shopping for the "good" stuff.  Initially, I said we were going to begin on Monday but I'm hoping to go ahead and get started on Sunday...or maybe even Saturday.  Oh, wait, no...I think we're taking (my) MIL to lunch on Saturday for an early Mother's Day treat, so hubby will probably use that meal for his last hurrah.  Not to say that he's dreading the diet--he LOVES the low carb lifestyle!  That man LOVES meat, so low carbing is perfect for him!   Grin

I've had the book "Daily Meditations for the Turning Year:  the Celtic Spirit" by Caitlin Matthews for about two years now.  I don't read it faithfully, but here is today's reading that I want to share with y'all...

Overfamiliarity and Neglect
"The blacksmith's mare and the shoe-maker's wife are always worst shod."  --a Scottish proverb

Habit and overfamiliarity can cause some strange neglects in areas where we would least expect them.  The things and people that we know best often prove to be furthest from our consideration, sometimes becoming so familiar to us that they feel like extensions of ourselves.  This happens if things are unwinding equably like clockwork; when we become used to the easy thythm, the habitual can become neglected.  If our own self-respect is low or we frequently abuse our body and energy with overactivity, we may have a tendency to treat familiar things with the same neglect or contempt.
This is a dangerous pattern.  Whether it is the tools of our trade or our partner who is misused in this way, sooner or later something is going to snap.  Before a critical tool breaks or we come home to an empty bed, we need to reappreciate the familiar, lest we lose touch with it altogether.
The ability to truly see our familiar surroundings, possessions, and loved ones can be stimulated by an act of will or by looking through the eyes of a stranger or visitor whose remarks and body language tell us about our environment in ways we have forgotten.  Recreation is the best freshener of stale perspectives, because it takes us out of the rut of work and daily usage.  It is then that we are able to see that the things we most value are on our own doorstep.
Reappreciate something or someone who is really close to you.  Look with the eyes of the "visiting anthropologist" to see how you are living in your environment and community.
