I just noticed that since June has arrived I have not made a journal entry.   Shocked

Hair is up in the combo do today.  Not much new to report in hair news...it's still healthy, and it's still growing, so I suppose no news is good news!  15 days until I next measure...

Hubby, hubby's mom, step-papa, and moi traveled Saturday to the annual Spring Rendezvous at Prairie du Rocher, Illinois: http://www.greatriverroad.com/stegen/randattract/fdcvous.htm
I had attended only once before and that years ago, so this was a real treat!  Hubby and I didn't get to look around as much as we wanted, due to his mom's bad knee giving her fits.  But hubby and I have already decided to go to the Fall Rendezvous--by ourselves.   Wink  I wore a light, short-sleeve blouse, my long skirt from Chadwick's and my big floppy hat, and felt very much at home amongst the ladies "in costume".  I'll tell you what...I don't think I would want to live through EVERY single historic moment and detail of the past...but I do LOVE seeing ladies in long dresses and skirts...I like it when I can tell the gender of a person simply by the cut of their clothing.  I think I was born in the wrong era!   Tongue

Hair is unwashed today and up in the combo do.  When did I start using the homemade shampoo?  <scans thru entries....>  on May 14, which means I've been using it for about 3 weeks.  If memory serves, doesn't it usually take 2-3 weeks of use after switching to a new product for the real results to begin showing up?  I think so.  Well, my hair did something odd yesterday; that's why I'm wondering.

Hubby had an early doctor's appointment yesterday and I went along as his driver (anesthesia involved).  Since we had to be at the doctor's office no later than 7:30, and we live a good 25 minutes away from the city proper, that meant I left the house with damp hair.  It's been taking forever to dry these days anyway.  (Shampoo or weather?)  So I finger-combed through it a couple of times and, even unbrushed, it looked pretty decent.  Well, by the time I finally got around to brushing, it was probably around 2 in the afternoon.  It felt a little...I don't know--matty?  Not icky sticky, but as if the brush had trouble gliding through.  And I had static!!  I never have static in the summertime!  (Shampoo or weather?)  So now I'm questioning the homemade shampoo.  I love the fact that the mixture has only three ingredients.  But if my hair doesn't like it then......................OR.....or maybe now is the time when I need to start oiling my length at bedtime.  Hmm!  I'm not using any sort of conditioner.  I haven't even used aloe gel in about a week.  So maybe the shampoo is making the length TOO clean?!  Hmm!  Sounds like trial and error time.   Smiley

Other
I'm getting tired of meat again.  Hubby loves our low carb diet because he's a meat-aholic and, on this eating plan, he can have as much meat as he wants.  Me, I'm already going "blech".  I'm going to cut way back on my meat consumption and eat more veggies.  In fact, lunch today is a nice salad with baby greens, some green pepper, some baby carrots, roasted unsalted sunflower kernels, and low carb salad dressing.  Doesn't that sound tasty?   Smiley  Now I've made myself hungry; I'm off to partake of my veggies!

Hi, Trisha!  Sounds to me like your hair is lacking moisture.  Perhaps a light conditioner would be helpful?  Maybe you need a deep conditioning treatment regularly with your new shampoo?
Good luck!

Yep, I'm thinking you're right, Sakina, soooo..........!

Hair
By the end of work yesterday I had decided that the homemade shampoo was not playing well with my hair.  I did some research on the EWG site (www.ewg.org/shopping), specifically with regards to product lines carried by our local health/organic store.  I settled on the Giovanni line and after work bought a bottle of Giovanni 50:50 Balanced Shampoo and a bottle of Giovanni - Smooth As Silk conditioner.  This morning in the shower I shampooed, did a vinegar rinse (which I hadn't done in about a month!), then conditioned.  Hair already feels better, but we'll see how things are going in another 3-4 weeks.

Other
I feel much better now that I've cut back on the consumption of meat.  Right now I'm eating one meal a day that's totally meatless, usually lunch.  I'm still watching the carbs so no flour and no sugar, no starches (that means no 'taters, no grains/pasta), but eventually I'd like to add back to my diet some whole grains.  I'm making an effort to drink lots of water but some days I just get sick of it!   Smiley

Hair seems much happier now with the Giovanni products.  It's very soft again, with little or no sign of static.  I've also begun oiling with jojoba; I slick it on the length while my hair is still damp.  I don't want to overdo, but I want to feed my length enough to do some good.  Today I used 3 drops, tomorrow 4.  I'll continue increasing the amount until greasiness is apparent.

Other
I have a mammogram scheduled for Thursday afternoon--oh joy.  I know this is one of those necessary womanly evils and, since I've already overcome one type of cancer, it's terribly important for me to get these tests.  But DANG!  Can't somebody invent a better way to look at those mammers?!   Shocked  I mean, just when you think that machine can't possibly flatten those babies any more...it does!  Sheesh!  Okay, I'll stop whining.  I should be thankful that we have this technology, right?  Right.

Hair is up today and unwashed, but looking fine.  The Giovanni s+c is doing such a good job that I believe I can start washing every other day (if I want to, that is). Five drops of jojoba oil seems to be the magic number, while ends are still dampish wet.

Other
I endured the mammogram and was rewarded with a passing grade--no baddies in the boys.  Good for another year.

I also got a passing grade from my dentist on Monday morning.  It had been TWO years since my last dental checkup.   Shocked   Bad Trisha...bad, bad Trisha!  We'll not let that happen again.  No cavities, though, and the ol' chompers are once again clean and shiny.

Well, the humidity is finally here, taking up residence yesterday.  ugh... Angry   Now we'll not see a tolerable day temperature-wise until September!  Have I mentioned how much I abhor summertime?   Angry   *sigh*

Hair
Currently I'm doing the every other day wash thing and still using Giovanni.  A little jojoba on the damp ends.  Hair seems happy.   Smiley   No split ends.  Haven't set foot inside a beauty salon since January 2005.  Thank God...I hate beauty salons.  I always felt out of place there, even as a child.

We've been eating out a lot lately...we need to stop doing this.  It's wasteful and gets expensive.  But hubby enjoys eating out, and I sure don't mind somebody else cooking (and cleaning up) for me!

I wonder how Beesan is doing?  She's been on my mind a lot lately.  I hope everything goes all right with the move...Palestine, wow.  That's a major change.

I've been thinking about our Beesan, too, I hope she's able to post soon so we know she's ok.  But, I must have said a million prayers for her, so she has to be.  Smiley

Hub & I get caught up in that whole eating-out scenario sometimes, too.  As you said, it's so nice having someone to do the cooking and cleaning for you, that you tend to get addicted! Tongue  We've been doing really good, I must say, we haven't eaten out in weeks, maybe months...so I think we're due soon.  We deserve it!  Wink Grin

Hubby and I used to eat out every night.  You are right - it is wasteful and expensive, not to mention not all that healthy.  This past February we started getting our meals thru Seattle Sutton's Healthy Eating.  It is a program where they prepare 21 meals a week for you (1200 cal or 2000 cal) from fresh, wholesome food.  It is all packaged up for each meal - all you have to do is heat it up.  We found we spent about the same amount of money but the food is better for you and the portions are correct.  And the convenience can't be beat!  Of course losing 20 pounds hasn't hurt my opinion of the program any either!  Grin

Wow, that place sounds great, BB.  Now *that* kind of eating out I would gladly keep spending money on!   Wink

Hair
Nothing new to report--boring but good.   Smiley  This weekend I'll do a vinegar rinse.  Also, since I have a nice little 4-day weekend ahead of me, I think I'll try washing my hair in the evenings and find out what it looks like the next morning.  I've always been a morning wash kind of gal.  But my hair already takes 2-3 hours to dry, and it's not even rapunzelly yet.

Other
As mentioned, I'm on the verge of embarking upon a 4-day weekend.   I plan on using my time wisely and doing a whole lot of nothing.   Grin

Hey Trisha-

I was thinking about you today and wondering how the quest for low carb living was coming along?
I read how you reallly miss whole grains.  Well, I have the book The Sonoma Diet and it may be just the plan for you.  It's rather moderate in the carbs  and does allow the use of whole grains.

It's sorta Mediterranean  meets  lower fat/Low carb..it might be something I could consider for maintenance but for losing it doesn't work for me.

I can give you more information if you're interested.  Just let me know.

Hope I'm not butting in, I just felt the need to share this with you, I don't really know why.... ???

*lol*  Nancy, you can share with me anytime!   Grin  I have to admit, this low carb lifestyle is not the easiest thing I've ever done.  There have been several days when I thought to myself, "Screw it; I want CAKE!"  But so far I've been able to talk myself down, and stick with it.  I am losing weight, although very slowly.  From my last doctor's visit weigh-in, which was in.....March?  Well, I'm not sure--let's just say early this year, to last week I've lost 10 pounds.  Not a lot, I realize, but when you consider that I'm not exercising, and the loss is strictly from a change in diet, not too bad.  And just 10 pounds makes a big difference in how my clothing fits.  I like those waistbands being looser!   Cheesy  As for missing bread/whole grains, I am now allowing myself to enjoy some low carb tortillas.  I don't eat them every single day, but it's nice knowing they're waiting in the 'fridge for me.  I appreciate your thoughtfulness, and know that I think about you, too!   Smiley

Trisha-

Thanks for letting me be a busy body..... Embarrassed

Basically it goes like this:  Wave 1 breakfast is 25/5 grain and 75% protein (eggs and toast) on a 7 inch plate or a bowl of cereal, a 2 cup bowl, 50% dairy and 50% grains (of the acceptable cereals, of course.)  Lunch is a 9 inch plate, 40% protein and60% vetetables and dinneris a 9 inch plate, 30% protein, 20% grains and 50% veggies, all chosen from the acceptable lists.  I know it's kinda vague but there is too much information to give here.....there is a website something like sonomadiet.com.  I was really interested in it but grains and I do not get along for now anymore....I break out....in fat!   But I really think it will be something I will consider for maintenance (if I ever get there....)

Anyway, just thought I'd try to help your quest....as not everything works for everyone....but tweaking any plan a little will make it work and make it yours.

Again, thanks for putting up with my babbling.

Talk to you soon,

I'm pretty sure that's what causes most of my weight gain, too--flour and sugar.  When I stay away from those two items I do so well.  Hey, have you tried the Blue Bunny line of low carb "ice cream" treats?  Most of the items are tasty, but there are two that hubby and I like a LOT...one is called a candy bar, even tho it's in the ice cream section, and the other is the butter brickle treat.  Very YUM!
