Hair
I tried the braiding thing again last night.  But this time I did it correctly.  I first washed and conditioned my hair.  I did a good old fashioned sink wash in the kitchen.   Smiley  And you know what?  It was really nice being able to actually see my hair as I was cleansing it!  It brought back memories of my childhood, when my mother would wash my hair.   Smiley  I squeezed out as much water as I could, towel dried, and then commenced to braid, head upside down (it just seemed easier that way).  I still ended up with three braids on each side of my head.  Went to bed with the braids still very damp, hoping that the drying fairy would visit me in the night and make all well.

Woke up this morning with all braids dry and intact, thank you drying fairy.  Showered with braids tucked safely in a shower cap, ate breakfast, got dressed, etc.  Held my breath as I unraveled the twists...pretty, pretty, genle waves!   Cheesy  Finger combed hair into place and viola!  I'm delighting in telling coworkers that, no, this is not a perm; simply wet, slept-on, braided hair.   Grin  This is definitely something I'll repeat.

Trisha-

I love the blue bunny carb options (do they still call it that?) but I try not to buy it.  If I have it here I'll eat it.  I save things like that for when I'm having a bad craving...that way I can have something "bad" while still being "legal".    I do that with the low carb candy too.....

Second-day hair today and, amazingly, it looks so good that I'm wearing it down.  Nothing new happening in my hair world.  Still using Giovanni s+c, oil only occasionally...*shrug*  Nothing new to report.

Our area is finally getting some much needed rain, but I fear it's too late to help the crops.  Last summer we were in a moderate drought condition and I don't believe we fully recovered.  So we were already behind in the moisture department when summer hit this year.

Things are...quiet.

I know the feeling.  We are sooooo dry up here as well.  We've gone 20 days without measurable moisture and the crops and lawns are showing the stress.  We did get some sprinkles this morning, but barely enough to make the sidewalks wet.  Embarrassed  Hope your rain helps!

Our rain didn't last - it was listed as a "trace" of moisture.

I know 20 days of being rain free sounds piddly short compared to the more arid areas, but our economy (agriculture) depends on the rain to produce the crops.  If the crops fail, the price of meat and many other foods go up.  Farmers go bankrupt and the Japanese buy up our farms.

I'd share our "rain" if only we had some to share.  Tongue

LOL Novusfemina

BB: I know what you mean about the crops. I once drove through the midwest (where my infamous fruit salad incident occurred) and saw miles upon miles of nothing....but.....crops!!! And those funny long hose things on wheels that water them. I can imagine that that whole area would be lost without those random storms that you get - even in the middle of the summer.

One of the most beautiful experiences I've ever had in life was driving through a lightning storm in Kansas while Sarah Brightman's "Ave Maria" played on the stereo. Ahhhhh.....  Smiley

Sarah Brightman!!  Are you a fan, too??  I love her duet with Andrea Buccelli (sp?)  Time to Say Good-Bye!  Talk about chills!!  the Italian version is just as good as the English version.

I am indeed.  Grin Actually, I often use her albums to help me stretch out and warm up my vocal chords. She is within my range and her style is easy for me, so it works.

"Time To Say Goodbye" is probably the song that she's best known for, at least currently. I have never heard the English version...just the Italian versions (duet and solo) with the title sung in English. It's a dynamic piece, but has become so "popular" that I almost dislike it. Her "Classics" album is in heavy rotation in my stereo.  Wink

And wouldn't you just kill for her hair?!  Shocked

oh yes(re: her hair!)  but minus that tiara I saw her wearing a few years ago when she did a concert appearance with Andrea!  I thought it looked kind of ridiculous.
I think I have her Classics on DVD,gotta check and play it more often if I do have it.
I wonder how long her hair is now?  And for that matter, what about Chrystal Gayle's hair, wonder if she still has it long?  hmmmmmm

Hey Trisha,
I only wish that I could pull off 2nd day hair, up, down or any which way, I look like a total grease ball by day 2...by the morning of day 2!  I know you have to transition yourself, but I just can't come to work greasy headed, and I don't get days off to try it out.  Undecided  Lucky you!

And rain, sheesh!  We've had enough rain to last us a lifetime the past few weeks, I wish we could share it with the rest of the country.  Isn't too much rain bad for crops too?  I know it took a toll on our pepper plants, they lost all of their first round of buds, but they're re-cooping now and starting to blossom again, hopefully little habaneros will be sprouting soon!

Hair
Should have been a no-wash day.  But since I knew I was going to have a new photo taken for my university id card, I wanted clean hair.  The past couple of days I've combed out my hair after showering, and it seems to have a positive effect.  Usually I just finger comb my hair into place and let it dry that way.  But it seems to dry much quicker when I comb it...I wonder why?  It also looks smoother, sleeker.  So I guess I'll be a comber from now on.   Smiley

As mentioned, all of us here at the university where I work MUST be issued a new ID card.  Everybody--students, faculty, staff.  That's a side effect of the new operating system.  Yay.  We can either use the existing photo that's on file for us, or have a new image captured before August 1.  Since my ID card is about 15 years old, I decided an update was in order.  Now I have to wait two weeks to see my new card.  I hope my hair looks good...   Grin

It's hotter than....insert your own simile.  Yes, Maggie, too much rain is just as bad for crops as too little.  Farming is always a gamble and I don't know how my ancestors did it full time...I'd keel over from the stress of constant worry!

I know what you mean about waiting for the ID!  I had to take a new pic for my state ID, and was worried about how it came out.  I had a bob in my last ID, and I wanted to be sure you can tell my hair was long in this one.  It came out nice, but since they crop you at the shoulders you can't really see how long your hair is!  boo

As far as combing - I have the same results.  I have straight hair.  I've noticed that the people with straight hair have better results with combing while people with wavy/curly hair have better results not combing (cuz it ends up straightening their waves.)
