Have an appointment with my...what's he called?
--a gynocologic oncologist (sheesh) this afternoon for a pap test.  He's the guy who performed my hysterectomy back in 2003 and, while there, I'm going to ask him to monitor me from now on.  If you'll recall I stopped going to my last oncologist.

I've decided to "fire" my oncologist.     My original oncologist, the man who treated me in 2003, retired November 2005.  I was very upset at his leaving.  Dr Y was a wonderful doctor, very caring, very talkative, very patient.  He had to retire for health reasons, both his and his wife's.  And I understood from the beginning that nobody was going to be able to take his place in my heart.  But I wanted to give the new guy at least a fair chance.  Well, it's been 5 months and, even though I've only seen Dr L about 3 times, I simply am not warming up to him.  He's not a happy person; that's obvious to anyone who spends more than 5 minutes with the man.  He's not open and caring the way Dr Y was....and I don't want to spend any more of my time seeing him.  Hubby doesn't like him either.  Plus!  My daughter, who happens to work part-time for him, says patients are dropping him left and right.  Apparently hubby isn't the only one who doesn't like Dr L.

So this morning I called my new GP, the guy I saw for the first time last month about the bronchitis, Dr C, and his nurse said, "Yes, he can monitor your ca-125 tests."  Done and done!  I feel very happy knowing that I don't ever have to see Dr L again, so I know this was a good decision.

Well, the GP I saw, for my last ca125 results, moved to a different practice!  I just feel like I should be with a regular oncologist, not simply a GP.  So, fingers crossed that Dr. Joe will have the time to keep track of me.  I'm already one of his patients, so I can't imagine why he would say no.  But you never know.

I stepped on the scale Saturday for my weekly weigh in and, behold!  168!  I haven't seen the 160's in 3 years.  I know from experience that this way of eating works for me + hubby, but I'm still amazed at how WELL it works.  Hubby has now lost 22 pounds!

The humidity is fantastically horrible right now.  We've got at least another 6-8 weeks of these conditions, and already I'm longing for Fall and Winter!  Hang in there, Trisha, just drink the iced tea!!  swoon

Thanks for the encouragement, gang!   Smiley
No, Curlygirl22, my vegetarian days lasted about a month.  My husband is such a meat-aholic that I just couldn't stick with it.  I really did enjoy the vegetarian experience, though, and some day would like to try again.  Hubby's and my weight loss is stemming from a low carb way of eating.  Hubby has lost 22 pounds since the last part of May, and he can really tell a difference in his (bad) back.  I'm very proud of him!

Hair is in a segmented ponytail today.  I need to get a measurement this weekend.  Still lovin' the Giovanni products.

Other
Heard this morning from the nurse at my doc's office, who told me that my latest CA125 result is at 9.1 -- normal is considered any number between 0 and 30.  Yay rah for me!  I give thanks to the Big Guy upstairs (no, I don't mean the fat man on the third floor....), who continues to keep me healthy.

I'm now back in my own office, almost all of the time.  Occasionally I still have to check things in the Operations room but, for the most part, I am once again Data Control Woman.   Cheesy  Having been nicely barricaded behind a locked door for three years, it's going to take a little while for me to (re)acclimate to being amongst people.   Undecided  Good thing is that I can lock myself away in the Operations Room if I feel the need.   Grin

Congrats on your results!

Data Control Woman - I like that.  I'm picturing a black and white costume (complete with cape and mask), and long flowing hair.  The utility belt includes the required pager, cell phone, etc.   Am I close??   Grin

Don't forget the long black boots, BB!   Grin

Hair is in the combo do today.  Haven't washed since Tuesday (wanted fresh locks for Dr Joe..."shake your head, dah-ling"), may not wash again until...Monday morning.  Maybe Sunday...I don't know.  I'd like to try Snowy's Deep Moisture treatment this weekend.

Hubby is coming to get me for lunch, so I need to keep an eye on the time as I'm meeting him out back of the building.  Even in summer, when classes are at a lull, parking sucks on the Southeast campus.  The weather is hot, hot, and nothing but hot.  I hear St. Louis got hit by a super nasty storm night before last, and I was very glad that Beeson + family were gone from there.   Smiley

Maggie, no, you're not being too bold to ask about the weight.  Let's see, I think I've lost...where's that calculator...14 1/2 lbs since Mother's Day.  My goal is to lose 20 lbs this year and I really think I'm going to make it!!    Cheesy

BB, you crack me up!   Grin

Hair
I was writing in my paper journal yesterday at home, making an entry about (what else?) my hair, when I realized I had gone 5 days without washing.  FIVE days WITHOUT WASHING.  To me, that's an eternity!!   Shocked  I didn't make a plan to do, it just happened.  Now I'm anxious to find out if I can turn this into habit.

Had another hair first yesterday when I did the Snowy's Deep Moisture Treatment that everyone else has been raving about.  I washed with the Giovanni 50-50 shampoo, did a vinegar rinse, and then gooped on the DMT.  Piled hair into a shower cap, cooked and ate breakfast, killed the remaining time to equal one hour, then rinsed very well.  Results were very nice.  Soft silky hair, pleasing smell, length very slippery.  I will absolutely be doing this treatment again, probably once a week.

Also my length is now at 23 1/2 inches.   Smiley

..Actually, since I'm just beginning my hair journey, I guess the title of my journal should be "Trisha's Tresses or the Lack Thereof"...currently my hair is only 3.5 inches on top but the sides are much shorter, probably only about 1.5 inches.

Trisha, that was your first entry back in feb on 2005, and now only a year and a half later you're at 23.5".......CONGRATULATIONS!  I didn't do the math on it, but that seems like amazing growth, good for you sistah!  Grin  How long do you plan on growing?  My lord, at your rate of growth you'll have it down to your butt by next year!

Yay for Trisha!  Grin

Hair
Well, Maggie, don't get too excited because I believe, for that initial number, I had measured wrong.  Yeah, my hair was very short...the front (layer) was right above the top of my ears and the bottom (layer) hit about half an inch below my hairline.  So with normal stalls in growth and everything, I reckon I see from 5-6 inches of growth per year.  I'm looking to reach BSL in 3-4 months.   Cheesy  How long am I going to grow it?  Terminal length, baby!  I'll let it grow as long as it wants to!  And since I'm already 44 yoa, I'm just itching for somebody, anybody, to tell me I'm too old to wear long hair.  I have my comebacks ready and waiting!!

Although, I have a question for you and the rest of the gang here. People are starting to notice my length and say, in a nice way (so far), "Gee, Trish, your hair sure is getting long!"  What's your response?   ???  To me, it sounds kind of redundant and vapid when I reply, "Yep, it sure is!"  What else can I say though?  Or maybe "yep, it is" IS the correct response?

Hair was washed on Sunday and worn down all day, worn down on Monday, and is down again today though with side combs holding back the front (which is a tad bit oily).  Tomorrow I'll probably do a combo do and then Thursday will probably be a segmented ponytail.  I'm trying to not overstress my hair by wearing the same "do" every day.

Other
I've re-started my search for information about my great-grandmother, Mollie.  I initially began her search a few months ago, but got sidetracked with Life.  Oh, how I wish I had paid closer attention to my granny's stories about her mother (Mollie).  But I got interested in family history *after* granny had passed on.  Story of my life.  I have very few facts to go on, and so this should be quite a challenge to fill in the blanks.  I'll ask my sister, who is 7 years my senior, for any information she can recall.  And I have an uncle on my father's side, who was raised in that same area (as was I); so he may know some things.  Ironically, hubby and I live on the same road that Mollie and family did...I know where the family is buried and, luckily, it's a two minute drive from the house.

So this evening, when the sun is setting, I'll be spending time at the cemetery, snapping polaroids of grave markers and taking notes.   Smiley
