Hair
I think I overcleaned my hair this morning.  Since it was very greasy from a 4-day-no-wash stint, I washed twice, with shampoo, then put conditioner on the ends.  But even while I was still in the shower it felt waay too clean.  Now it feels dry, not soft and lovable.   Smiley  That's all right though.  I'll wait a day and then on Thursday I'll try the COW again.  My daughter suggested that I wet my hair on the off days to make it look better.  I think that's what she does.  And since tomorrow will be an off day I may try that while in the shower.  Can't hurt anything--it's only water.

How ironic!  The Big Guy upstairs always knows how to get a message to me...      You see, I ate a little meat last night.  It was a concoction I made up containing elbow mac., mushrooms, onions, broccoli, some green bell pepper....and browned ground beef.  In truth, the ratio of vegetarian things was much higher than the meat in this dish.  And I felt a little guilty the whole time I was eating.  But I decided not to scold myself about it.  This is only week 3 of being vegetarian, for crying out loud.  So I'm still okay and I got right back on the veggie wagon!     Thanks for thinking of me, guys.  *hugs*

Yep, I ate a little meat last night.  I was weak, I admit it.  But I'm allowed to make mistakes because this is a huge change I've made in my life.  Yeah...I'm okay!   Grin

Hair
Didn't wash this morning, just got my hair wet in the shower, then towel dried, combed it into place and let it air dry.  It looks surprisingly good for a leftover day!  Feels better today--the ends are still a little drier than I like but not horrible.  I'm going to try COW again but can't decide whether to do it tomorrow (thursday) or wait until friday.  I'm afraid to wait too long...so I think I'll COW tomorrow.  Yeah, okay, so this will be my new cycle:
day 1 - COW
day 2 - wet hair only
day 3 - COW again
etc., etc.  We'll see how it goes.

It's raining like a big dog here in Cape Girardeau.  I mean, like, flooding-raining.  Creeks are overflowing their banks and arks are being built as I type.  We needed the moisture but, gee, this is ridiculous!

HAIR
Hair is happy today.  Did a VR* first, then COW, rinsed, C'd the ends, etc.  Loverly!  Nice and soft, no dryness, no greasies.

Had hubby measure and take a photo of my one-year's-worth-of-growth hair.  I also had him measure what BSL is on me--around 27 inches he says.  I'm at 21.5 inches now.  So assuming that I have at least a half inch of growth every month, I should reach BSL around August or September.   Shocked  Man, I can't WAIT!

Other
As I mentioned it's a nice dark rainy day.  Perfect weather for soul searching and the stirring of memories.  Perfect also for losing oneself in a novel, covered with a binkie while sipping hot tea.  Unfortuantely, I am at work.  *sigh*

*VR = vinegar rinse

Sorry to rain on your parade, but if you are getting 1/2" of growth per month, you would need about a year to grow the 6 inches to BSL.  Maybe your hair will grow more during the summer?  Undecided

You're right   Embarrassed  I obviously miscalculated.  This is why I work in office support and not in finance.   Smiley  Focusing on the math again instead of just letting it grow.  *sigh*  Oh well!  They're just numbers!   Grin

Hair
Pretty oily today.  If I'm going to keep doing COW I may need to do a VR on the off days.  I'll try that over the weekend.

Other
Well, after yesterday's flood today, ironically, is a beautiful sunshiny Spring-like day.  It would be a good day for a roadtrip.

Plans for the weekend include shaving my legs.  I'm embarrassed to admit that I cannot remember when I last performed this womanly ritual!   Shocked

Grin Another winter fur grower?  I usually stop shaving after I take my last bike ride of the season in the fall, and wait until I'm ready for my first ride to remove the fur.  I has been a bit embarassing going to the doctor and having the surgery on my ankle with this significant growth.   Lips Sealed  On the other hand, the only reason we shave our legs is because MEN wanted to make money selling razors.  So this is my rebellion against commercialism!

*lol*
Ya know, i DO tend to make excuses for not shaving during the winter--it's too cold, nobody sees them, etc.  I have even considered claiming that I belong to some religious cult who deems leg shaving as sinful!  The Society of Winter Fur Growers, hmmm...has a nice ring to it.  Maybe we should count women's leg shaving in the EEVILLE category along with Anais' vending machines?

Hair
I believe I've found the routine that my hair likes best (at least for now):  one part shampoo, two parts condish; lather into hair, rinse, apply more condish on ends, rinse out later.  My hair is soft and clean (but not too clean) and manageable.  Yay for happy hair!   Grin

Something miraculous happened on Saturday...
I shaved my legs!

Shocked  I wonder if anyone has done a scientific study on whether leg hair weighs more than other types--I swear, I always feel about 5 pounds lighter once I shave my legs!!

I'm having trouble being a total absolute 100% vegetarian.  I just can't seem to do it.  But I think hubby and I have come up with a good compromise.  No beef or pork; only chicken and fish along with lots of veggies.  So I guess instead of being a true vegetarian I only have vegetarian tendencies.   Wink  But who knows?  Later on down the road I may errupt into a full-blown vegetarian again!

Oh, definitely don't get upset about not being able to give up all forms of meat at once, that's really a huge adjustment.  As I mentioned somewhere before, both hub & I started by giving up the red meat first, got used to that for maybe about a year, and then gave up the chicken and seafood (only he had to give up seafood, I never had it to start with!).  It was a much gentler transition that way.  Only do what you feel comfortable with, then you'll feel like cheating less & less. Smiley

As for the whole shaving deal, I'm a slave to it.  I have to shave my legs and underarms every single day...I freak if I don't.  I just can't get myself past the feeling of one-day-stubble *shiver*.  My legs get soooooooo itchy from it!!!  Sad

On a less itchy note...good job on the hair growth, you've really come a long way.  I think I may try out your idea of mixing the s + c together for washing, and then do a separate condition.  Question- when you are COWing, what's your method?  Maybe you have it posted here somewhere I didn't see, sorry if that's the case.  Just curious, still haven't tried this.

Hair
Still using the 2 to 1 ratio of conditioner to shampoo, every other day, and my hair seems to like it.  I'll stick with this routine as long as my mane is happy.  Need to remember to do a vinegar rinse this weekend.

Thanks, Curlgirl64, I won't beat myself over my initial failure as a vegetarian.  What's that old saying?  --we only fail if we never try.   Smiley

Thanks for ongoing vegetarian support, Maggie!   Smiley  I can't believe you shave your legs every day!  Shaving the pits every day...yeah, I can kind of understand that one.

As far as the COW, this is what I'm currently doing:
wet hair
lather hair with one part shampoo + two parts condish
rinse
more condish on ends only (this stays in while I shower)
rinse
I do this every other day.

And that's all--I'm not currently using any kind of styling products whatsoever (knock wood).  Oh, and I try to do a vinegar rinse once a week.  Is that what you wanted to know?

I wish we owned a digital camera but their prices are still kind of out of our budget.  But!  I keep forgetting that the department I work for loans out a digital camera--so I can borrow "ours" anytime it's available and get some pics of my hair to post here.   Cheesy  I'll write myself a note to do that soon.

Hi Trisha!

My hubby and I have been ovo lactoc vegetarians for about 15 years. When we started there were no veggie burgers or dogs, well at least ones that had any flavor! Roll Eyes The only meat we do eat is sushi (raw fish) and the occasional salmon and canned tuna.  At first it was hard doing food shopping as there was no veggie food packets at the supermarket like now.  We would go to health food stores for most of the stuff we needed, but man it was exspensive!  Other problems were eating out, most resturants have all meat menus and we were stuck with the salads.  It took our family a while to realise that we don't just eat salad.  I've learned to cook with tofu and grains, how to mix hamberger helper with soya meat.  Hang in there and good luck!
