Congrats on making diamond.  Grin You snuck in here this morning and made those last  couple posts to put you over the top - I've been checking and checking, waiting for this special moment just for you!

Holy c**p, I'm a diamond!!!!!!!  I didn't even realize it until I read BB's comment in my journal.  Shows how much attention I pay to things!   Grin
Coolness!

Hair
Wash day!  And boy, was I ever glad.  Had it not been a regularly scheduled wash day I would have done so anyway--because hair reeked of cigarette smoke which will be explained in the other section below.  *cough*

Other
Yes, about the smoky hair...My sister and her husband are here for a short visit and staying at the Super 8 motel in town (we live out in the country).  They stopped by on Easter Sunday but didn't stay long because they were very tired from their drive.  Hubby and I had to come back into town, after I got off work, to buy cat food.  The kitties tend to get cranky when they're not fed.   Wink  While in town, we decided to stop by the motel to see if sister + BIL were there.  We called from the lobby first to make sure they were decent and not in the middle of something (ahem) and then wound our way up to the second floor.

As soon as BIL opened the door it hit me--cigarette smoke.  I'd forgotten that my BIL is a chain smoker.  Bad.  Bad, bad, bad.  I don't know how my sister, a non-smoker, can stand being cooped up in a sealed room with a chain smoker!   Shocked  But I wanted to see my sister, so I endured it.  What could I say?  It's his room, he paid for it, he can do whatever he wants in there.   Tongue  We stayed and talked for about 30-45 minutes, made a supper date for this evening, and got the heck out of there.  Hubby and I both REEKED of that nasty smoke.  Blech!  Ironically, hubby quit smoking last year and now he can't stand the smell of it either!  I'm almost dreading tonight because I know we'll HAVE to sit in a smoking section and the REEK of last night will be repeated.   Angry  Hmmm, maybe I should take along my little battery operated fan and point it his way?!?!?   Roll Eyes

Poor Trisha. *sigh* Welcome to my world.

Aside from being exposed at a very young age to smoky bars (one of the many joys of being a musician's kid), and having grandparents who smoked, my current boyfriend also smokes.  Angry
My tolerance for it now is pretty much gone...especially after my grandmother recently died from cancer. So I totally sympathize.

Unfortunately, I can tell you from first hand experience that, for a non-smoker, there are NO good points to living with someone who does smoke.
People who don't smoke choose not to for a reason(or many), and when they live with someone who does, they are confronted face to face with those reasons. Have you talked to your sister about this?
My guesses are a.) it doesn't bother her  b.) she believes that he will eventually quit or c.) she's deluding herself and knows it.

Anyway, I suppose the good news for you is that you don't smoke, your husband doesn't smoke....and you will only have to tolerate your BIL's chain smoking while he & your sister are in town.

It's a putrid stench, I know, and it can be very difficult to remove. Just be wary of how much time you actually do spend with them. If they notice that your visits with them aren't very long, it might clue them into how much his smoking really bothers you. I don't spend very much time around any of my boyfriend's family for that very reason.

Ultimately, you have to remember: you can influence people, but you can't change them. The only person you have control over, really, is yourself.  Wink  Stay strong.

Hair
Nothing new to report--probably a good sign.   Smiley  Washed today, back to using the 2:1 ratio as the 1:1 didn't seem to do the job.  Yesterday the secretary at work said, "Your ponytail is getting loooong!"  So apparently people are starting to notice, yay!

Other
Well, the supper with sister and BIL on Tuesday evening wasn't nearly as bad as I imagined it would be (thank you, Lord!).  We did sit in the smoking section of the restaurant.  But we were a little early, so for a long time we were the only ones in that section.  We sat at a table for 6 but since there were only 5 of us, I was able to distance myself from the chain smoking fog.  It went like this:
    BIL   SISTER   DAUGHTER
   HUBBY                       ME
  Grin

And hubby was scooted back from the table far enough that, later he told me, the smoke didn't reach him either.  Thanks for the words of strength,
AngelSpun
.  I think the next time I call my sister I will mention the smoking.  I'm pretty sure of her response and her reasoning (or NOT reasoning??), but at least I can let her know that it bothers us.  They were scheduled to leave this morning, by the way, so no more headaches for a while.  Whew...

I've decided to "fire" my oncologist.   Smiley  My original oncologist, the man who treated me in 2003, retired November 2005.  I was very upset at his leaving.  Dr Y was a wonderful doctor, very caring, very talkative, very patient.  He had to retire for health reasons, both his and his wife's.  And I understood from the beginning that nobody was going to be able to take his place in my heart.  But I wanted to give the new guy at least a fair chance.  Well, it's been 5 months and, even though I've only seen Dr L about 3 times, I simply am not warming up to him.  He's not a happy person; that's obvious to anyone who spends more than 5 minutes with the man.  He's not open and caring the way Dr Y was....and I don't want to spend any more of my time seeing him.  Hubby doesn't like him either.  Plus!  My daughter, who happens to work part-time for him, says patients are dropping him left and right.  Apparently hubby isn't the only one who doesn't like Dr L.

So this morning I called my new GP, the guy I saw for the first time last month about the bronchitis, Dr C, and his nurse said, "Yes, he can monitor your ca-125 tests."  Done and done!  I feel very happy knowing that I don't ever have to see Dr L again, so I know this was a good decision.

Hair
Okay...so I'm thinking of going back to washing every morning.  *sigh*  I'm remembering that, back in the early 90's when I had waist length hair, I used to wash every morning.  My hair wasn't damaged by it; no split ends, no evident damage, etc.  Why should now be different?  I think I miss the squeak (we've talked about the squeak before) of cleanness.  I also like the way my hair looks and feels freshly "laundered".  So, yeah, every day washing again.  Or...just whenever,  ya know?  *shrug*

I'm also feel myself being lured to try Herbal Essence products, thanks to the temptations of someone whom I will not mention.  CURSE YOU, ANGELSPUN!!!   Grin  But new products will have to wait for payday, which is this Friday.  I think I'll go check out their website and dream a little dream....

Well, I can relate to two things here:

#1)  The hatred of the putrid smell of cigarette smoke- I grew up in a house where both parents smoked...heavily.  My brother's had bronchitis and asthma nearly his entire life as a result of it, still didn't stop them.  Most of the rest of my family smokes as well, makes family gatherings really unbearable for me & my husband.  They just have zero consideration for the non-smokers of the family.  And can you believe that the fact that my cousin with cancer in his lungs (I know I've mentioned him b4) was there for Easter still did not stop them from smoking...in his presence.  Even his own parents were smoking around him, I can't even begin to express my disgust at this blatant disregard!  Angry

#2)  The need to feel "freshly laundered" every day.  This is something that I just can't & won't get past.  I tried it once a few weeks ago...NEVER again!  My husband was cracking up at me, I walked in the door from work & just stood there with a stance like someone had dunked me in mud or something, I vowed to him that "I never want to not-shower again, what was I thinking??".  I peeled my clothes with disgust as I walked down the hall and got directly into the shower.  He couldn't stop laughing.  It wasn't like I had gone for days or anything, actually I had showered before going to bed the prior night, so for whatever reason I thought I could skip the a.m. shower.  Wrong!  Never, ever again!!!  I think it's more a mental thing than anything else, but that's the way it has to be.

Think I'm crazy yet?  Roll Eyes

Honey, I've known you're crazy for quite a while now--that's why I like you so much!!   Grin

Hair
I made the decision to return to every day washing.  (gee, i made it sound like an official proclamation or something!  *snort*)  Still happy with the Tre Semme shampoo.  But I'm not so sure about the Jason conditioner and I'll probably switch back to the Tre Semme conditioner with tomorrow morning's wash.  My hair likes cones and I have a feeling it's the Jason condish that's making my ends a leeeetle tangly.  Can't have that!  Haven't decided about trying the Herbal Essence line.  I may stick with TS, I don't know.  Argh, too many decisions!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!   Tongue

Other
(warning:  contains talk about veins and needles)
Didn't have a very good morning.  Had an 8:20 appointment at my (new) doctor's office to have blood drawn for my ca125.  This was my first visit for this specific item, as I had been using a different lab for the past 3 years.  I have small, shy veins that don't like to have needles stuck in them, no, no, no.  So I point out to the phlebotomist (sp?) that others usually have good luck using my left arm, right in the middle of the bend. Well, of course, the gal can't find it.  She has to call for the other phleb. to help.  Phleb #2 can't find the "good" vein either...Oh, she tried and must have either nicked the vein or just missed it...because I bled a bit when she pulled out the needle.  Sooo, they give up and phleb #2 ends up taking blood from the underside of my wrist.  Yeesh.  I've had blood drawn from that spot a couple of times before and, while it doesn't really hurt any more than the other spots, it just sort of internally freaks me out.  When I finally got back to work and took off the cotton balls with band aids, that poor little vein on the underside of my wrist was all swollen, and bruised.  The swelling has finally gone down but I'm going to have a doozy of a bruise for a while.  And why does peeling off those stupid band aids hurt more than the needles?!?!  It's not enough that they hurt you with the needles, oh no!  They have to add insult to injury and slap on a band aid that peels off hair and the first two layers of skin when you try to remove it!!!

Then!  Oh yes, there's more, kiddies, you may as well get a bowl of popcorn and something to drink because we're going to be here a while...

One of the chores done by my department is laser printing billing statements for students.  I work for a university--I've mentioned that before, haven't I?  Yeah.  So there's a day shift, me; a night shift, middle aged guy; and a weekend shift, idiot boy.  I call him "boy" because, even though he's in his mid-30's, he's definitely NOT a man.  Anyway...middle aged guy had a wisdom tooth pulled and idiot boy has to cover for him, last night and tonight (God help us all).  We had a billing run last night, and there's another one tonight.  Two different billing cycles, two very different pre-printed forms to be used, two different boxes, two different sticky notes written by Yours Truly directing idiot boy to use *these* forms for Monday night and *these* forms for Tuesday night.  Even with all that, did he still use the wrong forms?  You'd better believe it.  So after the bad time at the doctor's office I get to the office and have to reprint 3,500 pieces of paper because idiot boy is too busy playing online poker than to do his job.  *sigh*  I could have killed him...still haven't quite talked myself out of doing just that.

But I got the bills reprinted by 11:15 and I'm at least calmer now and in a better mood.  I just wonder what he'll screw up tonight............?  grrrrr

Trisha, I know what you mean regarding blood tests.  I use to have to have one once a month.  Luckly I made friends with the lady who draw the blood a.k.a  Indra the vampire.  She learned where my vien was and soon there was no more problems.  When we were done she would feed me OJ and home made samosa all along talking about her home town in India.  I hope your feeling better and have a more postive exprenises next time. (((((hugs))))))

I just hate it when the "specialists" can't find the vein for a blood draw.  Sheeesh - it's their job!  I am fortunate that I don't have to have regular blood draws, but I do donate blood on a regular basis.  I don't have the easiest veins to find, and I am pretty patient when they need to try 2 or 3 times, but I draw the line at 3.  If they can't do it in 3 attempts I figure it just is not meant to be.  (A trick I have learned is to wrap yourself in a warm blanket, or try squeezing a bottle of warm water.  The veins are easier to find and your blood pumps faster when you are warm).

and as for "idiot boy"..... I deal with these kinds all day long doing software support.  The stories I can tell....  Shocked... Grin

*lol*  thanks for the support, ladies, it always helps.

Hair
Happy I've returned to every day washing, although I've implemented a small change.  I used to lather ALL of my hair, top to bottom.  But since learning from this site that I don't need to do that, I only lather from the top down to my ears.  The only soap my length needs will come from my rinse cycle.   Smiley

Other
Idiot boy didn't screw up last night...oh, wait a minute, yes he did--I'd almost forgotten.  *sigh*  I'm not even going to talk about it, though, because he's not worth all that typing!!  *lol*  But at least he got last night's billing statements correct.  I guess he's a little afraid of me (who knows why...i mean, it's not like i can kick his a++!  (sarcasm)) because he apologized in writing AND by telephone.  Yep!  He just called a little while ago to say how sorry he was about Monday night's bills.  Fine and dandy, but words don't make it right, ya know?  Anyway, the regular night operator should be back on shift tonight and all should be well.

Vein in wrist is bruised and still slightly swollen...but then I would be, too, if somebody jabbed a needle into me...okay, not going to go there... *cringe*  The good thing is that there are at least 3 different labs in the area to which I can go for blood drawing, so I'm not locked into using these gals.  If they can't get it right, I go elsewhere, period.  By the way, BB, three sticks is my limit, too, although I don't think I've ever had to be stuck more than twice.

BB, did you ever get your skirt?

Well, it's around 12:40 and I'm off to heat up my leftovers.  Y'all have a good one!   Cheesy

YES!!  In fact, I am wearing it today.  Grin  I will probably make some adjustments to the waist to shorten it a bit (ah, the frustrations of being short), but it will most certainly become a regular part of my wardrobe.

I'm glad you finally received your skirt, BB!

Hair
Only had a little bit of the Jason condish left, so I threw it away this morning and used Tre Semme instead.  Wearing hair down today...length is more tangly than usual...hopefully it's just from the switch up of products.  Although I've been wondering lately whether my hair has reached that certain length where it seems to tangle more simply because it's long enough to rub against the back of my shirts.  Make sense?  My hair is now long enough that, if I wear it down, it moves back and forth across my shirt when I move my head, which in turn would create a small amount of friction...and tangles?  I try to remember to run my fingers through the length every so often to find and defeat any tangles that might be forming.

Other
Okay, I'm ready for this week to be OVER.  I know:  one more day.  *sigh*  The zipper broke on my favourite purse yesterday.  It didn't cost a lot of money or anything and it wasn't particularly unique--it cost me $20 at the local Cracker Barrel restaurant gift shop.  I love their purses, what can I say...  Smiley  It was my Fall/Winter purse and I'd been using it for about 2 years now.  I guess I just wore it out!  Welll, I was thinking it's about time to buy a new purse for Spring/Summer anyhow and now I have no choice!  Back to Cracker Barrel I go!   Grin

Here's a plug for my sister's handbag sites:

eBags - they have handbags, backpacks and luggage
6pm  - they have handbags and shoes

My sister is a buyer for these sites.  I have ordered from them many times - they are quick to ship and customer service is excellent.  Returns are not a hassle.

Here's a plug for my sister's handbag sites:

You're such a good sister   Smiley

Hair
Hair is still a little tangly--maybe my tresses no longer adore Tre Semme?  Perhaps...therefore, my goal for tomorrow will be to buy new product.  I have three lines from which to choose:
Suave

(good ol' Suave--I always end up back in the arms of Suave),
VO5

(they've got some good smells but I'm not sure I liked their condish),
Herbal Essence

(ah, yes, the temptation of Angel Spun!)
Deciding factors will be price, aroma, and (possibly) an accompanying leave-in.  Mainly price, though.

I've also decided to pare back my vinegar rinses to once a month, and I'll do this on the first day of every month.  Should be easy to remember that way.  However, since the first of May is Monday, and I just did a VR last weekend, I believe I'll wait until June 1 to do another.

Other
Nothing new...same old same old.  Maybe that's a good thing, though.  Not complaining!!  I'm just looking forward to the weekend!

I'm not.  Cry  I'm going to spend it working, both at home and at my 2nd job. Be glad you're not me!  Wink

Have Suave and VO5 actually worked for you in the past?  Shocked  I used both up until I was a teenager, and you couldn't pay me to go back! In my experience, the only things worth washing with the cheap stuff are horses, cars, sinks and tubs. But definitely not human hair.  Tongue
You probably think that my opinion is biased because I use HE every day, but I really think it would be the wisest investment. I say that out of experience, believe me. The fragrances are addictive, the leave-in's are awesome now that they've been reformulated, and HE really doesn't cost that much. I was blowing all kinds of $$ on Pantene before, so I was also looking for something less expensive.

Anyway, I'm not trying to sway your opinion too much...just letting you know what I've experienced personally. If the cheap stuff works better for you, though, I'd stick with it, by all means. But beware the ammonia content!
