Howdy, howdy,
I stumbled across these boards in the midst of a bit of a hair crisis. I started growing my hair out in first grade because it was impossible to dress up like a fairy princess with an 80s bowl cut

From that point on, it's got to be my favorite obsession, and it's been waist length since about 1989.
What brought me to this forum was a kind of train wreck of circumstances involving some harsh dye (yes, yes, BAD idea) and the Powers that Be mucking with my good ol' Pantene Pro V by changing to perfume to something that triggers my asthma. Really cruel, getting my hopes up with 'new amino proteins' then sending me bolting wet out of the shower for my inhaler

Yeah, so the dye made my ends horribly brittle so that I had to chop a glorious five inches *sobs* and the loss of my standard conditioner has sent me searching afield for ways of salvaging what I've been able to keep. Now the stats...
How long is your hair?
Waist length when it's not being pouffy. Can't find my tape to give you an exact inch measurement.
What color is your hair?
Dark warm chestnut brown - leetle bit of red here and there.
Is your hair straight/curly/wavy?
Fresh out of the shower, it does this spiral curl thing, very pretty. After one brushing, though, it calms to a pouffy wavy, and on a nice dry winter day it'll even smoothe out to a nice gentle wave. Actual hairs are in the normal range, thickness is, as far as I can figure, thick.
Do you have favorite products to use on your hair?
Well, so far I've been trying every heavy conditioner known to man with variable sucess. Early winners are the Nature's Gate with Keratin and Panthenol and Bath and Body Works Bio Moisturizing, though I'm not in love with them.
I've tried this 'oiling' thing I've been reading about a bit, still getting the hang of not turning my hair into an oil slick. Extra Virgin Olive Oil seems to be working better than the desert essence Jojoba oil I picked up at Wild oats, a bit more coating. Just for kicks, I tried some raw cold-press shea butter I had hanging about - WOAH! It did wonders for my frizz and doesn't migrate as much from the dry ends to the oily scalp. Definitely a keeper.
I've been using the Freida Extra strength frizz ease serum on the ends for a while to the point of addiction, but I've got a sneaking suspicion it's making the ends a bit more brittle, so I'm trying alternate methods for a bit to see if there's something less, shall we say, silicone. I mean, it's hair, not a computer chip.
What are your favorite hair accessories?
I'm rediscovering the joy that is the scrunchie, phasing out my old standard small claw clips. Anything bright and colorful is my piece of cake, and hairsticks so long as the laquer is REALLY thick so as not to snag my hair. I definitely don't like that nasty ripping noise anywhere near my hair

Yep, so that's it. And if you've got a favorite heavy conditioner that's not too pricey do let me know. I'm a poor grad student, so the $20 = teensy bottle bracket just isn't gonna fly. Ciao!
