Fine bun nets
Apr 25th, 2005 at 5:45am

Here is picture of the bun nets I always talk about. These are blonde, but they can be found in other colors.
First I coil the bun, then I put the net over it, and insert hairsticks after that. These are really good, but unfortunately they aren't very lasting. So if you come across these, don't buy just one or two.

O_O

What, has no one heard of those around here?

Gawd, those were part of my ballet routine. Only, the problem was that my hair was SO thin, SO slippery, and SO rebellious when I tried to make it stay in a bun that I would secure it with about a dozen hairpins and then cover it with a hairnet like that one...then within 20 minutes all the hairpins would pop out, and the hairnet by itself trying to hold up a bunched up ponytail that had already lost all its hairpins was useless.

Although I found that braiding the hair first and layering three or four hairnets on top of each other helped a little...but I still hate those things with a passion. I'm convinced that the nightmare of fighting with my hair for ballet every day very strongly influenced my decision later to wear it short.

Maybe the hairnet serves some purpose if you can get your hair to stay in a bun in the first place and you just want to tame some flyaways, but my bun was already such a hopeless case that there was almost no point.

LOL.

I'll probably have to go to a dancewear store to find them.  I can't find them in any of the local drugstores, discount department stores, or beauty stores - if they have any hair nets it is the larger size for the whole head.

in Australia (and nz) you can buy these at any chemist, hair care store, or any store that sells bobby pins.

Thanks for the web site, Autumn.  I'll keep that in mind if my searches here don't work.
Kathleen, I've tried all those places here, they have only the larger hair nets, not bun nets  Tongue
In the meantime, I've been crocheting some bun covers and using those.  I do get comments about looking like I belong to the Mennonite community when I wear a white one and then have my white lab jacket on too  Smiley

Looks like the ones that Dancewear sells, are thicker and/or bigger than the ones I have. I doubt that they are invisible.

The nets on the left side say they are invisible, the ones on the right have beads on them so they wouldn't be invisible. Of course what they say is invisible and what actually is invisible may be two different things. I can't get the bun nets in a store so I think the first chance I get I will order some of the 'invisible' and also some with the beads.  Smiley

I hope the invisible will be what they say they are.  Smiley
The beaded ones are very pretty. I once saw those here, but unfortunately the hair net itself was black so it would have looked too weird in my hair.

I have a ? for all the bun-net-ers, for what purpose are they? Is for looks only or is there an underlying reason such as more control?

A bun net helps me to keep the bun looking neat all day. It also gives a little control: it obviously can't hold a bun (you still need a holding device like pins or hairsticks) but it helps to keep the bun from starting to fall apart because of loosening. It's quite important especially in shorter hair.

if you can only find the bigger hair nets, then maybe you could double over a big one, a bit like a hairtie only different.
