I hope no one thinks I'm a dummy-but.....

What exactly are Shampoo Bars??? Are they soap based? All Natural? Better for your hair?  I'm trying to stay mostly natural with my hair care- I'm thinking of ordering Aubrey Organics products- Shampoo, Cond, and styling aids.  The Only thing that concerns me about the Shampoos is I think they are soap based, so they would be more on the alkiline than the acidic side-For those that use these products- Do you then need to do a vinegar rinse with each shampoo?  I've been very impressed with their website(www.aubrey.com)
and like the idea of s/c with no chemicals.  I can't find a nearby store that carries their stuff- A local health food store said they might start carrying them soon-Not soon enough I want to try them now.  I hate ordering online if I don't have to ,shipping and all.

You have to look at the ingredients. If it has something like Sodium Lauryl Sulphate, Sodium Lauryl Sulphide, Sodium Lauryl anything, those are lathering chemicals, and they are not all natural.

Some shampoos and shampoo bars claiming to be all natural contain Sodium Sulphates, so you need to closely examine the ingredients. Burt's Bees Shampoos and Shampoo bars do not contain Sodium Sulphates, and are natural. I've heard about another brand, something called "Kiss My Face", but I've not looked at their products or seen their ingredients list.

You can always  try making your own shampoo, if you don't want to order online.

depends, the chagrin valley shampoo bars are soap based. made from vegetal oils and butters only, with added oils, butters, and essential oils. they are bars because only solid stuff won't spoil without added chemicals like paraben.

I've changed to Chagrin Valley's shampoo bars with great results. They are all natural, and my hair likes them a lot. Not to mention that I love the simpler routine.

Soap based shampoos "cure" before they are sold, in order to allow pH level drop to safe level. I don't necessarily need a vinegar rinse, but I think it makes my hair feel extra nice, so I use it after shampooing. For me, there's no need for a separate conditioner though some people use that with shampoo bars.

Shampoo bars don't work well in very hard water. Also, if you switch to them from "normal" shampoos, your hair may feel strange for a while -mainly when it's wet. This will pass in a week or so. And, it seems that shampoo bars won't work for everyone. You either love them, or have trouble of them. So it's wise to order sample sizes first.

Chagrin Valley's shampoo bars seem to be most widely liked. They have a good selection.  I've heard quite a few complaints about Burt's Bees and ...what-was-that-other-brand. I haven't tried these myself, though.

Thanks Styg and Galadriel- I think I'm going to try to get ahold of some samples first from aubrey Organics- The nearest store that sells either that OR shampoo bars is about 80 miles aways-so spend the gas or pay shipping I guess.  I'd like to get away from detergent based shampoos.
