A journal all my own
Aug 5th, 2005 at 4:17pm

Ok, I'll start one just because it's "the thing" to do. I guess I don't do peer pressure well.  Wink

Ok, my hair story is this: all throughout my childhood, my hair was kept between chin and shoulder length. Not too short, but definitely not long. In high school, I decided to grow my hair until I graduated. This gave me a date that I was aiming for and that helped me not give in to the urges to chop it off in a time of desperation. So, I grew it and did until I graduated. I was at waist length when I cut it and donated it to LOL. My hair felt light and bouncy again, but it was June and it was warm to say the least. My hair now sat under my collar and made me hotter. *sigh*

So, I decided to grow it out again, this time until I graduated college or I got married (which ever happened last). Then I realized that graduation had a date...I didn't know my wedding date (seeing as I didn't have a guy in mind at the time). So I went with graduation.

But since I found this board, I've reformed my ways and have decided to not cut it (or donate it!!) This made my boyfriend very happy. He knew me in high school and was very sad when I cut my hair then. He likes it long. Grin

That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The ways my hair care has changed: I tried CO for a while, but I think I chose a bad time to try.  Undecided I was going places and camping. Not a good time to try a new way of washing.  I didn't like the oilyness that I got on my scalp. Maybe I'll try it again later. I've decided that my hair doesn't mind cones, but the stuff I use doesn't have cones. I am CWC and oiling occationaly with olive oil. I feel less inclinded to wash every other day like I used to, which I think is good. And I bought a wide toothed comb which seems to be working great. I trimmed off my split ends and am keeping an eye on it. It's just past BSL and still growing (thank goodness) Grin

Ok, I'll stop babbling. I don't have a whole lot of time (or extra money  Cheesy) to try all the new things you all suggest, but I will try. We'll see how it goes    Smiley

I notice your sig says, classic length (to your belt). If classic length is to your belt, you must be wearing really really low rise pants! Tongue Sorry, couldn't resist Grin

Don't worry about money with long hair. Smiley

It's more what you DON'T do to the hair.  One of my favorite conditioners is three bucks (aussie 3 minute miracle.)

My cousin does absolutely nothing to her hair, and her hipbone length hair looks great.  She doesn't even try.  <shakes fist>

Edit:  I forgot the "i" in aussie! ^__^

Hee hee. Ok, my definition of "classic length" must be different than yours. I think it's to the waist (where the belt sits) But, if you think "classic length" is just beyond the butt, then I guess I'll have to come up with a different name for how long I want my hair!  Cheesy

Word to the wise: give yourself lots of extra time to do your hair. *sigh* I had a bad experience yesterday. I was visiting a friend who was getting married up north (LA area) I didn't give myself enough time to do my hair up. It was misbehaving, so I needed to get it wet. I had to stick my head into the sink. This naturally caused lots of tangles and since I have curly hair, I comb it wet. My hair and I spent quite a lot of time arguing about the fact that I needed the comb to go through the hair without running into tangles. geeze, and I was in a hurry, so I wasn't being very careful. *bad me* I eventually got it up in a twisted ponytail and then braided it up and tucked it back into the twist in the ponytail. It worked, but I was tired by the time I was done.

Another thing I discovered is, once the hair dried, it felt crunchy. I think they must have harder water up there. It felt like I had gel in it or something. eeewww. I washed it properly this morning and it's much happier. I will probably look later for split ends from yesterday's ordeal.

Oh, wow...I feel your pain! Anytime I have somewhere important to go, no matter where it is...My hair is always angry. Even more so if I try to recreate some cute hairdo, then it really acts up. In the past I would always end up blowdrying to death, so I could wear it down and straight. Now I just pull it into a bun. I DEFINTIELY feel your pain.  Sad

I was thinking of you ladies this evening.

I was hot and decided to try something I haven't done in quite a while: use hair sticks!  Cheesy A woman who I knew in high school had hair almost to her knees and always had it up. I went to her house and she showed me how to put it up in different ways, many in hair sticks. She gave me a few of her cheaper ones. I found them today and put my hair up in a regular bun with the sticks in on the same side so they make a V. It didn't work the first time, but is working now. You may convert me yet.  Wink

Hee hee. I enjoy my hair, hair sticks or not.  Cheesy

Today a plain old English braid. I need to try a French braid sometime. I've never been very good at it (though I've never tried it on myself) But, I look good in them. I just need to sit myself down and practice (in my free time!!)

I haven't washed since Monday. So, remind me...it's a good thing not to have to wash very often, right? I think I want to get something like rosewater or something to spray on my hair to get it to curl and behave on the in between days. Is it possible to add a little bit of conditioner to water, cause I don't think my hair likes just water. Something to try.

I tried something new last night. I put olive oil in my hair (cheap and around, I've decided to do that until I find it dosen't work.) After the oil, I put conditioner into my hair. I heard it makes it easier to get out. Then a bun and slept on it. I washed it this morning. I put my normal leave-in conditioner. that may have been too much. The hair is still drying. We will see. Hopefully it comes out soft!!

Hair is SOFT!! Yeah! The curls are nice, but a little fuzzy. *sigh* I'm not sure what to do to keep the curls together. All the hair curls, but some of it curls on its own instead of with the others.

The top is a little greasy. I CWC, so the only thing I use on my scalp is a little of shampoo. Should I do a vineger (sp?) rinse? Would that help?

*sigh* why won't my hair grow faster?!? I have a new coworker who has hair that is "classic length" (which is past her bottom) and she reminds me of how long I have to go.   Undecided Grow hair grow!

Vinegar might help - vinegar with a little honey into the mix might help even more.

Oil disolves older oil - that would be part of why the conditioners work to get some of the former layer off.

Hmmm, we'll see if I can try a vinegar rinse. I'm busy right now, but we'll see.

I woke up late today.  Sad I had to do my hair on the way to work (my dad was driving) My scalp is still a little greasy.  Tongue I put my hair in 2 english braids. I think I look cute this way, like a little girl. But, the scalp doesn't look too bad, so I'm not too worried. I am sure I'm the only one who will notice. It bugs.

Found split ends yesterday, but being at work and not having something to trim them with, I couldn't get rid of them. *sigh* I need to remember to bring something to trim those with me wherever I go.

Hair much better now. I did a vinegar rinse yesterday with Apple Cider Vinegar. I don't know if that is much different than white vinegar, but I've heard many like it better. I was worried that I would smell like a salad, but it's ok.  Cheesy The hair is much less greasy now.

I've been losing alot of hair reciently. I guess I'm just going through a shedding season. I have really thick hair, so I'm not too worried.

Yesterday, I got to comb my boyfriend's brother's wife's hair (that's even confusing to write) She has almost classic length hair and it's nice a straight. It was tangled and she let me comb it out. *sigh* Straight hair looks so nice and neat. When my curly hair is combed, the curls get big and wavy and the hair itself get big. Straight hair, you just smooth it out and it looks normal again.  Tongue But I like my curls. I just need to try new things to get the curls to be good. Planning on trying a conditioner/water mix to see if that helps.

Wow. Been a while. School started today, so I don't know how busy I'm going to be.
Hair in a bun today because that's what I did for last night and it didn't want to stop. So, today is a bun day.  Smiley
I went swimming over the weekend and didn't get a chance to rinse it out.  Tongue I'm not going to do that again. I washed it as soon as I could and it seems to be ok.
My ends are kind of kinky and dry. Maybe I will oil just my very ends.
Did a top pony tail yesterday and didn't flip my head over. My curls behaved better. Yeah! Cheesy nothing really exciting today other than new classes and old friends I haven't seen in a while.

Ok, yeah. It's been a long time. School is taking over my life (that's ok, I only have until May untill I'm done  Grin)

Update on hair: doing well. I CWC and my hair is liking it. It's quite soft. I wash every 3 or 4 days. Not too consistant with that.

I've been chasing split ends. That's frustrating in itself. There are always lots of cut off and I lost what I had been using to trim. I trim in class (I hope my professors don't mind) and somehow misplaced the trimmers!! sigh, I need to get myself some new ones.

I'm still losing quite a bit of hair, but I think it's beginning to slow some. The weather is changing and I think that's making the difference.

School is going well. The stress hasn't happened too much yet. I think it's going to be a good semester. I got to see a friend who I knew in high school (a long time ago, only 4 years.  Wink) Her hair was always long and I was happy to see it still it.

AARRRRGGG. Been a long week. I have to wake up early to get to school before too much traffic, so I don't have a whole lot of hair time. And all week my body has made/let me sleep in the extra time that I had set aside for the hair time. So, I haven't washed it since Monday and my hair feels gross, my body feels gross and I feel gross.  Tongue
To add to the fun, I had a high (like almost 100 degrees) tempture yesterday and I suffered through school all day feeling achy, with a head ache and a fever. I had an audition to go to, but by the end of the day, I wasn't up to it. I when home and had lots of water and rested. I feel much better today, but have decided to take it easy tonight. I think I'm going to go home and deep condition and wash it and maybe watch a movie. Something I need.
Another adventure: My boyfriend's apartment flooded. There was a crack in the slab under the apartment and within 3 hours, the carpet splashed when you stepped on it! We moved everything that could get water damage off the floor and he stayed with my family and me the whole week. They found the leek (after putting a huge hole in the bathroom floor) and patched it, but they have to replace all the carpet and that will take a while. sigh. I don't know if I need more gray hair.  Cheesy

Thanks all. My boyfriend's appartment is still without carpet, but should be getting it soon. He says it makes him feel like he's living in a wherehouse. It's frustrating to him, but it's ok.

Hair is doing much better. I'm still experimenting with the CWC and using olive oil whenever it feels dry. I am trying to stick with a wash every 3 days or so. It seems to be working.

Because of the curls, I'm afraid to comb it. I need to discover a spray or something to give my curls the sping that makes them fun and give my hair body.

My auditions went well and I am now the proud director of a small cast for a one act play. It's my senior theatre project in some respects. I have the opportunity to direct a short show!! Cool stuff.

I am taking a sewing class and am enjoying working with my hands. I a usually not too great at projects that take a while and require patience. So far, though this class has been fun. I am in the process to sewing a patchwork pillow. It's going to be cute. Then I get to make a shirt and then a dress. I'm excited about the dress. The material I have is a sexy red and a kind of oriental print. I hope it turns out ok.

Geeze. It's been a while. Update on my life: My boyfriend got his carpet back and is much happier. He has a new problem: no electricity!!  Tongue Sigh, if it's not one thing, it's something else. He is currently at 6th grade camp and I'm sure he's having a good time. His car stopped working about a month and a half ago and it's been in the shop ever since. It's done today, so I'm going to go get it and surprise him when he gets home with it as a birthday present.

I'm keeping busy with school. My patchwork pillow came together well and I'm starting a knit shirt. It's exciting. Our fall show starts tonight and I'm helping with costumes. It's a lot of fun to work with about 10 cast members, making sure they are all dressed right, everything is straight and their hair is just right. Ah, that's showbiz. Cheesy

My hair is doing fine. I've converted a few more people to the idea of not washing everyday if it hurts your hair. I'm using olive oil every week or so to keep it soft. Since it's curly, it's softness isn't a noticeable as it would be if it was straight. That's ok. It makes for easier combing when it's soft. It's in a ponytail braid right now (my I-just-got-out-of-bed-because-I-slept-through-my-alarm hairdo) It's behaving and I'm happy with it.

Yep, school is keeping me busy. Boy, am I looking forward to Thanksgiving break. We get Wednesday through Sunday off. Next week will be busy because teachers seem to think we have nothing to do during break so they make papers and presentations due right after we get back.  Tongue But it's ok. I'm keeping on top of stuff enough that it shouldn't be too bad.
Hair update: still CWC. I use Swave conditioner, Swave shampoo and then V05 conditioner. My scalp isn't too bad. A little oilly, but ok. I just got a new type of V05 conditioner that says it's clairifying. We'll see if it makes a difference or if I should just stick with ACV rinses. My mom bought it for me, so I kind of feel obligated to use it.  Undecided I hope it works well.
Split ends are rampent.  Angry I always find them while sitting in class. I have taken to putting a pair of fingernail clippers and using those to trim in class. I wonder if my professors mind. Cheesy  I wish I could figure out what I'm doing to keep them coming back. I wet comb it, but with a wide toothed comb and very carefully. I oil it. Maybe they're just left overs. I don't know.

The splits don't seem to be hurting your hair any, because it looks great in your pic.   Cheesy

Is your comb seamless?  Seamy combs can cause splits.

I'm not sure if my comb has seams. How do you tell? It's plastic, so it might. Is there a way to fix that?

Hair being good. I'm thinking about going half and half on CWC and COW. Would that be ok? It's nice and soft today. My ends are a little crunchy and dry. I'm not sure what to do with them. I oil every 2 weeks or so with Olive oil. It helps everything else, but the ends. sigh. Maybe it's the split ends, but even the one's without the splits are a little crunchy.  Tongue

Life is good. I think my boyfriend will be proposing soon.  Cheesy  Some time in the next month or two I'm expecting it. Smiley It's fun to wait, but it's driving me crazy. He told me he will talk to my family and his family first and I will be the only one in the dark. I love that boy! I'll let ya'll know when it happens (along with details!!)

School is keeping me busy. I'm holding my breath for Christmas break. It can't come fast enough. Just 2 and half more weeks then I'm good to go until the 9th of January (which I think is too early to begin school, but if it means we get out earlier in the long run, I'm ok with it)

I use a fingernail to see if I can feel a seam on the teeth of the comb.  If the nail catches at all, there is a seam.  I use a nail file to file the edges/seams to be smooth.

God, that's.....amazing! You are so lucky, wishing4longhair!!!

It seems like everyone's getting engaged. *sigh* It would make this hopeless romantic truly swoon, were it not for the facts that a.) I'm divorced, and b.) I know that my current boyfriend will NEVER propose.

Ah well. I'm still happy for everyone else. There's nothing quite like finding the love of your life, and no experience equivalent to marrying him.

You may want to consider using a heavier oil on the very ends of your hair. Like mineral or vegetable oil. I know, it sounds gross, but they work!  Smiley

All the best, wishing. God bless.

Hmm, olive oil is already one of the heavier oils. If you can get some shea butter, try using it on the ends. Oils can result in crunchy hair so shea might work better. Or perhaps it's time to clarify?

He did it! I'm offically engaged!!  Grin
Details: Friday was our one year anniversity, so he made us dinner. Then we went to a huge outdoor mall downtown and went ice skating. Then he took me up to the 5th floor which is the top one and sat me down on a bench. He had written me a poem and everything. Afterwards, we went back to my house where his whole family, my family and all our friends were waiting for us. It was so romantic. I've been told by several people that I've been beeming all week. When I get a picture of the ring, I'll post it.

Here's a picture of us. It's a little old, but it's still fun.
...

Ok, now that you all knew,  Smiley back to hair info. I'm looking into getting jojoba oil for my hair. At least once a week I attack my split ends. It's feeling more healthy and is growing (slowly, but it's still growing)
Nothing too exciting happening on the hair front. I'm trying to grow it to my goal length by the time summer comes around which is when we want to get married. No offical date yet, but sometime maybe July. And at the rate I'm growing, it should work out. *crossing fingers*

My hair is thrown up because I didn't feel like dealing with it. I look forward to going home and washing the last of my finals away. Yep, no more school stress until the 9th of Jan. I'm ready for a long break. Asking for hair stuff for Christmas!! Smiley It's cheaper than buying it myself.

Merry Christmas indeed. My family is all going different directions for Christmas so we weren't sure when we were all going to open the presents to each other. So, we did it last night. Christmas early!!  Cheesy
My sister gave me Jojoba oil for my hair! I'm so excited. I had been too lazy and didn't want to go find it, so I asked for it for Christmas. I tried it this morning and it is much less heavy than olive oil. We will see what my hair does with it. My ends are dry, so the plan is to get them healthy again. Those of you who use jojoba oil, do you use it while the hair is dry or wet?
I did a little s & d yesterday. There are always split ends to find and attack. There's no end. I hope to do in consistently enough that I can only find a few at a time. Wish me luck.
Merry Christmas
and a happy New Year.

Early Christmas!  Fun!!  Cheesy  I've had late Christmases (last year we waited until New Year's), but never an early one.

How wonderful that your sister gave you jojoba oil!  Grin I love my jojoba oil.  I use it on both wet and dry hair.  During the winter, I will put a bit of jojoba oil on my wet hair after shampooing.  Then most nights, before bed, I will also apply a small amount of oil - mostly on the ends.  By morning, my hair is soft and shiny.

Good luck with your S&D.

Merry Christmas!

Jojoba is going wonderfully! It's making a nice difference.  Cheesy

I've also discovered something else: For the longest time, I was under the impression that my hair would do awful things if not combed after a wash. I was afraid to try it. My future sister-in-law lets her hair dry before brushing it, but I though it only worked for her because her hair is very straight. But, the other day, I decided to try it. What the heck, I'm not going anywhere, so why not? It worked wonders.  Cheesy It dried and looked just like normal and I don't have to stress anymore about combing my hair and creating more split ends while its wet. My new way of doing it: letting it dry on it's own, then combing it with my fingers to remove any tangles. I hope this will cause my whole split end thing to decrease some.

Still looking for wedding hair ideas. I'm thinking half up and half down, showing off my length. The half up part is the part I'm not sure about. I don't know what I want to do exactly. I'll keep looking and thinking. I've got a while to think still, but it's good to start now.

Hair growth is coming along. I think I will reach my goal length or close to it by the wedding. That would be nice.

School starts next week. Not too excited, but the sooner it starts the sooner it's done!   Grin I graduate in May!

Didn't wake up on time. Arrrggg. Getting up really early (5 am) is too early to have to get up and take a shower. Sad Sigh. Because school is so far away, I have to wake up that early to wash up. So, slept in a half an hour and didn't get a shower. That's ok. I just brushed in and oiled the ends (they needed it anyway) and put them in two braids. Up and out of the way. Maybe I'll wash when I get home.
Stressing about the wedding. I cried on my fiance for about 20 min. last night.  Cry Poor guy. He's such a trooper. PMS is such a wonderful thing.  Tongue *sigh.
My mom has kind of taken over the job of wedding coordinator (however you spell that) and it's a load off my mind. I'm not a detail person and lots of things needing to be done and little things not to forget bogs me down and makes me cry. My mom loves that kind of thing, so shes taking over. She and my fiance can plan away and just come to me for the decisions I have to make. It's a relief.

Yep, she's wonderful.

I can't describe how much nicer my hair feels now that I just let it dry on its own and use a little bit of jojoba oil every once in a while. It takes a little longer to dry, but that's ok because I love the results. Thank goodness for LL and the things I've learned here! It's amazing.
I should update my way of doing things now that's it's changed so much:
  • I use Suave conditioner as the first C on the length
  • Suave shampoo on the top
  • V05 conditioner as the second C on the length which I leave in to soak for a little bit
  • I put in a little of the V05 on the very ends that I don't wash out, but leave it in
  • Let it dry on its own
  • Use jojoba on the ends when it's dry and feels like it needs it
  • Comb only when it's dry, like the day or two after I wash it, the day I wash it or the day after that, I finger comb (the curls keep better that way)
  • I wash every 3 or 4 days
  • I keep it down the first day or 2 then put it up in a braid or a bun to keep it out of the way
That's all I can think of for now. My hair is still growing slowly, but I can feel it getting longer. When I'm sad at the slow growth, I look at my future sister-in-law and admire her classic (to her bottom) length hair and imagine when mine will be like that.

*Sigh, why is hair so hard to work with sometimes?!
I'm having issues. I washed it on Monday and here it is Wednesday and it's gross. It's greasy and clumpy. The ends are dry and have tons of split ends! AArrrggg  Angry

Yesterday, a friend of mine was watching me play S&D and took out her pocket scissors (which she had for her own S&D) and joined me in my search for split ends in my hair.  Cheesy We worked on my hair for about an hour. It was fun. So, made a little progress on the ends and have vowed to use jojoba oil every evening or so.

I think I'm going to use a ACV rinse the next time I wash. It's been a while and I'm due for one.

I'm having issues with school. I have a PE class at the beginning of the day Monday-Thursday. This means it's pointless to take a shower before I go to school. I have to take a shower at school. And as a cherry on top, I can't wash my hair on Tuesdays or Thursdays because later in the day I have a cooking class and we have to keep our hair up and out of the way. I hate putting my hair up after washing it. It smashes the curls.  Sad I guess I'll just wash on Mondays and Wednesdays or maybe I'll try the hold-the-length-out-and-wash-the-scalp thing. Hmmmm. We'll see.

Didn't have pe today, so I took a proper shower this morning. Used white vinegar, but i don't know how it will turn out. My scalp was gross and I'm trying to fix it. It's still drying so I can't tell yet. The curls look fine and I almost don't smell the vinegar anymore.  Cheesy It will be gone once I'm fully dry. It took a while to rinse out the vinegar. I wonder why. Is there a difference between white and apple cider vinegar in what it does to your hair?
Anyway, having future in-law problems  Tongue: they tell us they don't even want to discuss a date for the wedding until John finds another job. The job he has now does not make enough money to support a family and has no upward mobility. So, he's been looking for another job. But, the problem is my mom wants to set the date as soon as possible (like this week) and John's mom won't even consider looking at her calendar to see if the date we are considering would work for their family until John has a good paying job.
My parents think John should just set the date despite what his parents think, but what John is struggling with is wanting his parents to be proud of him and he feels if he goes along with their wishes, they will be proud of him. It's hard for both of us. We're going to ask my parents to hold off and be patient until the end of the month. If John has not found a new job by then, we will have to talk about it again. sigh, why are some people so unreasonable.  Cry

Roll Eyes ummmm - this is YOUR wedding - right?  I think the two of you should decide when to pick the date - not your mothers.  Granted, you will want their involvement, but they should not be the ones setting/picking the date.

Having yourselves in a position to support yourselves is an excellent objective - good luck on the job hunting!

Thanks for the support, BB! Smiley
Life is going well. My man has taken the week off to look for jobs and has been doing well. Had an interview today. Don't know how it went, but I'm sure he did fine. I don't know if it is the kind of job he's looking for though. I have no doubt that he will find one that fits him perfectly and provide what we need.
Hair is behaving better. The ends are still going back and forth between dry and brittle and only ok. I've been using oil and s&d is my new passtime (much to my professors' dismay, I'm sure  Wink) I've asked for little scissors for my birthday which is Sunday. That should be helpful. Everything up until the last "3 is soft and healthy. I'm trying to avoid cutting it.
School is keeping me busy, but I'm having fun. Once the 28th is out of the way, I'll feel better about it though. I am directing my own one act show and it's getting close and I have so much to do and so little time. *sigh, se la vie (don't think that's how that's spelled) so goes the live of a theatre person: last minute details and chores. It keeps me out of trouble.  Cheesy

Weird french words. Smiley
Thanks, Angel Spun. Yeah, theatre people are....weird and one of a kind. I've been told I don't fit the theatre major mold, but I enjoy it anyway.

Still trying to get my hair ends to behave and stop being so dry. Grrrr. Tried putting conditionar in the ends overnight. That didn't seem to have a bad or good effect. Ends are getting slowly softer but still kind of dry and brittle. That may be the split ends.

My muscles are tired. I'm taking a tennis class which is fun, but I'm using muscles that aren't used to being so worked. My fiance likes tennis and I'm awful so I'm trying to improve.

Happy birthday to me!

Yesterday was my birthday. I'm 22 now!  This is good because my fiance is 24 and that makes our ages closer. Cheesy We went out to eat at a mexican resturant called On the Border. The waiter gave me a free brownie and ice cream on top. It was good.

I wanted to wear my hair up because when I wear my hair down it makes me look younger for some reason and people ask dumb questions like "when are you graduating high school?" and want to know if I'm 16. sigh, it will be a nice thing later in life, but having a fiance who looks 38 and looking 16 myself does cause some uninformed people to ask questions.  Wink

I wrestled with my hair to find out what it wanted to do and finally just put it in a high bun with clips to hold it up and a beaded ribbon as decoration wrapped around the bun.

Hair is slowly getting better. The ends don't act as dry. They are still a little, but not as much. I did a little S&D during my afternoon class to prevent sleeping.  Cheesy My friend told me she wants to find me a pair of little sewing scissors that fit in your pocket to give me for my birthday. That will be nice so I won't have to keep using fingernail clippers.

Happy Birthday (belated) to you!  I am also younger looking than my age and also found it annoying that people thought I was younger so they often treated me like I didn't know what I was doing.  We'll show them, won't we?
I turn 36 on Wednesday, and only stopped getting carded about a year or so ago.
It gets better when people just think you're in your mid-20's.

Have you tried unrefined coconut oil?  My waves really like it, after olive oil became too heavy.

Thanks everyone. It's nice to feel loved!  Cheesy

Quote:
At least people think you're in high school. When I was a sophomore in college, I had a classmate who told me that someone asked her what elementary school she went to.  Tongue

Holy Molie! That's a bit much. I'm glad I don't have that problem quite that bad.

Quote:
I am also younger looking than my age and also found it annoying that people thought I was younger so they often treated me like I didn't know what I was doing.  We'll show them, won't we?

Yeah Sakina, young-looking people unite. Yeah, I hate it when I'm in a place of authority and people ask to talk to someone who's in charge and knows what they are doing!  Angry Yeah, that would be me!!

My one-act opened yesterday and is going well. I'm so proud of my actors and happy it's almost done! It's been a fun process, but I'm tired and want my life to go back to normal.

Wedding plans coming along. Still waiting for John to find a job. There is an opening at the school he works at for a job as a computer teacher. He would enjoy that. Think of us.

Hair behaving ok. Getting softer, but the ends are still suffering. I wish I had time to try some of the deep conditioner ideas on the board. But, I'm a student during the week and a socialite/fiancee during the weekend who works on Saturdays.

I've decided to try not to trim, but to just S&D. I will try to get it healthy untill Feb. 14th. If it's still dry and blah after that, I'll trim it up. Wish me luck.

Yeah! My one-act went well. My actors did wonderfully and I'm so glad it's all done. It's a load off my chest.

True, there has been more drama in my life. Our school is doing their last show of the year and I really wanted to be in it. I have been a theatre major for 3 years and haven't acted on stage once. I wanted the opportunity to try. so, I auditioned, but didn't get a part. The director didn't cast me because she wanted me to be a crew member instead.  Angry I was upset. I have been every backstage crew member there is possible and I know I'm an asset to have, but I want the chance to try acting to get the experience. Nope, no such luck. *sigh. She doesn't realize how important it was to me.  Cry I'll be fine. I've decided to help the costume mistresses because it's a big cast and she'll need any help she can get.

Hair behaving. My split ends are rampent, but I did a little taming and I think I made a little dent in the amount of splits I have. It's a never ending battle. I will oil tonight to see if that helps. The health of the length is nice and soft. It's in a braid right now. I try to keep it up because of my pe classes. It's probably better for it anyway.

John and I pinned down a date! July 22nd. That's 6 months away. Lots to do. My mom is making my dress and is starting out by making a muslin version to see what it looks like on me. I got to try it yesterday.  Cheesy It's so exciting! We went to a bridal fair on Sunday. There was a huge room with about 10 or 12 rows that were around a block and a half long full of venders and information. My head swam. It was a little overwhelming. But, I survived and we collected lots of information. So, plans are coming along.

School is finishing it's 4th week of school. Only 13 weeks left of school!  Grin

How frustrating to not get the stage opportunity you desire.  I'm sure other opportunities will present themselves eventually - good luck with them.

How exciting to "see" your dress develop.  All the planning and hoopla can take its toll - be sure to stop and enjoy the special moments when you can.

Thanks BB. I'm doing much better today.  Smiley
Wedding plans coming along. Yesterday I drove around town looking into various places that make cakes. One sounds perfect and the people were so nice and helpful in giving me options on how to save money. A rare thing.

My fiance is getting a new job and it is stressing him out. He knows this new job will be good and he will enjoy it, but he will have to leave the place he's working now, which he has been at for over 3 years. He's very attached to the people and it's making him sad to think of leaving them. I feel a little helpless because all I can do is stand by him and try to help him through this change.  Embarrassed

My hair is wonderful today. I combed it out last night and washed it this morning. I don't know what makes such the difference, but my hair has only a little frizz. Maybe it's the fact that I sat and watched a movie while it dried instead of walking around campus and messing it up. I don't know. It feels long today. It's nice to think about my hair once it grows to my goal length. For not I can just wish.

Got my package Saturday! Grin It's fun getting mail from out of the country. Thanks Galadriel! Hair stuff still awaiting their trial, but they look fun. I already wore the socks and their stripes are cool.

Hair ok. I washed this morning and I think I used too much shampoo because when I was done rinsing, my hair (scalp area) was squeeky.  Tongue I added a little of my lighter conditioner on the squeeky part and it seems ok. Not too greasy, but we'll see if that lasts. My split ends bug me. I feel like a broken record, but I only seem to see them when I'm in a place or doing something where I can't stop and trim. sigh. Still maintaining the length's softness.

Having a little stress myself now. My mom might have breast cancer.  Embarrassed We won't know for sure for another week or so. Think of me and her. I'm a worrier and usually take thinks like this to heart and think of all the possibilities. John is my rock. He keeps me grounded.

Thanks you guys. I appreciate it. Nothing so far. She does have an appointment to go in next week to make another appointment then they will go in and take a sample of it then they have to check the sample to see what it is....you would think this wouldn't take so long. Tongue  Well, I'm not too worried for now, because there's nothing I can do.
School is good. I'm so thankful for the semester I'm having. Only 6 classes=12 units and 3 are givens (don't have to try too hard, tennis, weight lifting and a psy class that I can either pass or fail, passing being the best option  Smiley) So, I only have 3 classes to worry about and 2 don't even have tests! Yep, my last semester couldn't have come together any better.

Hair being good. Ends still suffering but I think they may be getting better. did a little s&d when in a boring class. It's in 2 braids to keep it up and out of the way. I'm considering a deep conditioner when I have the time. I don't know what exactly I want to do. I have to poke my nose around and see what other people like to do.

Fun day. My Fridays are wonderful. I don't have class at all on Fridays and don't have to go into work until 12. Sleeping in is what I get to do! Also, getting stuff done that has been needing to get done, but I haven't had the time (or made the time, I'm not sure which). Did laundry, changes my sheets. Ah, the little things in life. Smiley
In my long moring, I washed my hair. I tried to take a picture of it, but my digital camera is being dumb.  Tongue It will only take one picture before it says it's full. and I couldn't get a good picture of my hair. It helps to have another person home to help. I'll keep working on it. My curls are nice today. I'm still concentrating on my ends hopeing I wouldn't have to trim.
Made a ticker today. I'm proud of myself. I wanted to show my growth and how long it might take, but my wedding date was what I ended up marking. I hope to reach my goal length by then anyway. *crossed fingers

Hi, Meg.  I am also really working on growing my hair out and with our texture of hair I think it is important to have regular trims.  I get mine every 10 weeks.  Since our hair tends to be dryer it splits easily and will look better with a little taken off.  Like 1/4".  Maybe 1/2" if they're bad.  I just had a trim yesterday and no one can tell.  I can, of course but she really only took off the bare minimum.  She knows I'm going for BSL AND she's a curly herself so she knows how to cut it.
Just my 2 cents.

Thanks for my lovely gifts, BTW!!!

You're very welcome. Who trims your hair for you? The last time I did, my fiance did it for me and he was scared to death.  Smiley I wasn't too worried.

My man took me out with 3 other couples for a big quadruple date on Saturday. It was fun. Dinner, mini golf, and a hot tub with apple cider! Hee hee, now he just needs to do something for just us. Sorry, that sounded a little diabolical, but I enjoy waiting to see what he can come up with. He's quite the romantic type.

My hair is doing fine. I'm still psying myself up for a trim. I will probably do it soon. It got mad at me for going hot tubbing. It didn't like the water. I tried to keep it out, but didn't do very well. I had to condition it quite a bit yesterday before it would be nice again. Did a little s&d today and feel like I might be getting somewhere. I honestly don't know.

I go to a salon.  When I told my beautician what I wanted, I looked her straight in the eye and used a clear tone of voice that conveyed my intentions.
I've had two trims from her with very good results.

Wow. Sounds like you have her trained.  Cheesy
My mom got her results back Monday and she has breast cancer. This is not life threatening, but it will take up time/money/energy. Think of us.
The wedding is in 5 months!! So much to do and so little time....kind of.  I can't wait for it to come. Grin My mom is making my dress and it is almost done in stage 1 (make a practice version to try on me). We have a photographer and are still looking for a florist. We're picking out the cake and the invite wording is coming along. Why is wording the invite so difficult? geeze. So, it's all coming along. I hope mom's energy holds up for a while.
My hair is ok. Still fighting splits, as always. Got new little scissors to trim with. They fold up and fit in my pocket. I'm a nerd I know. Smiley

Thanks you guys. Trisha, yeah you're right. I bet my wedding plans will keep her occupied. I just hope she has the energy she needs.

A nice easy Friday. Got some house work done. I know that might now sound like fun, but it's been so long since I've done anything because of school keeping me busy, it feels nice to do some. It is wonderful to look at a clean area and feel the sense of accomplishment.  Smiley

Washed my hair today. Reciently my shampoo has been leaving my scalp feeling squeeky. I don't know, but it's like it's making it too dry or something. So, to counter this I put a little of my light conditioner along my hairline. The last time I did this, I put the heavy conditioner on and it made it greasy. It worked wonderfully. My hair along my part feels nice and soft. It's so nice. All of my hair is soft today. It loves me.  Cheesy The splits will get a little attention today, but they're not going to bother me today. I'm too happy about the condition of my hair to mess it up too much.

Cold and grey day. Trying to rain, which would be cool, if it would just make up its mind.  Smiley I think it's effecting my body. I'm lazy and sleepy and my body is sore. I played a basketball game yesterday and I fell, scraping up my leg pretty good. *sigh, I'm always hurting myself or making a mess. No premanent damage, just sore and bruised.

Hair not sure what to think. I wanted to do a quick shower this morning so I skipped my shampoo of my CWC. I used a little of my light con. on my hair line and it's a little greasy. I'll see how it feels tomorrow. My curls are nice though. Did a little trimming of splits during class (which is the best way to do it, getting 2 birds with one stone Cheesy)

I'm trying to figure out how to keep my hair out of the way without a ponytail (because for some reason it tangles really bad when just in a ponytail) but the ends straighten and get brittle when I put it in a bun. I don't know what to do with myself. *sigh. Any ideas would be appreciated. I do't want to forever wear a braid.

How about a bun with the ends purposely left out of the bun.

Can you tie your hair in a knot?  Twist your hair like putting it in a bun, but pull the end through the center of the bun.  Use hairsticks or hairpins to hold the bun (if necessary) and let the ends hang lose as a short ponytail.

I'll have to try that. Yep, it works. It's fun to be able to tell people I can tie my hair in a knot.  Cheesy

Rain today, finally. It's been forever since it rained. We've only gotten about 2 inches this year when usually by this time we have gotten about 10. I like the rain. It makes me sleepy and I just want to curl up with a book in a warm room and some hot chocolate. I guess I'm spoiled because I can do that now if I want.

Hair greasy. I guess it didn't like the skipping the shampooing and just using conditioner. Oh well. It's a hat day anyway.

It was a bad morning.  Tongue My car wouldn't start and I had to drive the car my mom was going to use. My dogs, who came outside to sniff around while I was trying to start the car wandered off and it took my sister and I about 15 min. to find them. Bad doggies. Traffic was slow and my leg began to cramp up because it was still sore from the basketball game on Sunday. When I got to school, I had to park farther away from the building than I wanted to because I didn't have the proper parking permit on my car. Sigh, at least my tennis class was canceled and I can relax till 11. That's one good thing. I hope the rest of the day goes better.

Well, long time no type.
Life has been good. Spring break was last week. A whole week without school is a wonderful thing.  Cheesy The down side is I got a cold and the first day I spend feeling awful. I've been congested the rest of the week, but have felt better (thank God).
I got wedding planning stuff done. Booked the photographer, ordered the cake and bought the fabric for the dresses (my mom is making my dress and I may be making the bridesmaids' dresses!) The fabric is beautiful!! I'll take a picture and post it soon. It was a productive week once I felt good enought to get out of bed.
Hair doing ok. The bottom half of the ends feel nice and soft, except for the last 2 inches or so. I think I'm going to break down and trim tonight. I realized the last time I did it was July.  Shocked I think I can take off a little, especially if it makes it healthier. *sigh, I don't like losing length, but health is better. I'm scheduled for a wash tomorrow. I've decided I'll wash 3 times a week and that should work well for me.

Ok, so trim still on hold. I have to find time and get my fiance to hold still.  Cheesy
I found a split end today that horrified me!! It was split about 4 inches up and every quarter inch or so had a little hair branch. I was aghast!  Shocked I didn't know they came that bad. *sigh, I hope my trim helps.

My mom is scheduled to go in for surgery on Friday. She is getting a lumpoctomy (spelling??) They are going in to take out some of her lymp node and then they look at it and decide if they need to take out more and if they then take out more, then they look at that and decide if they need more....etc. It's a process! So, think of us/pray for us if you remember on Friday.

School is beginning to pick up. Projects are coming and papers need to be done. I got my commencement package yesterday in the mail, so I'm getting excited about graduation!!  Grin Just 8 more weeks.

Digital cameras are a blessing and a curse! They are nice and evil at the same time. I still have to sit down with mine and put the pic on my computer. (your other option is to take a picture and then scan it or get it on a cd and save it)

Hair ok today. Still waiting on the trim. It's in a braid, out of the way. It's kind of cold here (probably only 60 or so, but that's cold for me  Roll Eyes) I'm in a comfy sweater and will take a nap later after class gets out.

My wedding is in just over 4 months and I'm getting excited. We're going to stay in a little Bed and Breakfast the first couple nights. That's going to be fun. It's here in San Diego, so we're not traveling too far. Stuff is beginning to come together! Patience is the key.  Cheesy

Happy St. Patty's day!

Yep, we're lucky here. Our "winter" isn't so winter. Smiley
My hair must love me today. I washed it and it's curling nicely. Not too frizzy. It's been getting softer and softer. It seems to like the conditioner I'm using...which I don't remember the name of at the moment.
Short post, lots to do.  Smiley

*sigh, it's Monday. I'm tired and don't want to be in school.  Tongue My weekends make me very happy because no classes/homework and I get to spend time with my fiance.
Mom's surgery went very well.  Cheesy They got it all out and none of the lymph nodes have it. She came home the same day (we were expecting her to stay at least a day) She looks good and is getting stronger. It's a load off my mind. They still have to decided what happens next, but I'm not worried.
Hair ok. I'm still waiting for my fiance to have time to trim it. I'm not measuring it for the month till he trims. It's pulled back in a bun because it's gross and I don't want to wash till it gets trimmed. I've decided to try putting jojoba oil in my hair the next time I wash. I don't know if I'm supposed to wait until it's almost dry or to try it right after I get out. We'll try both I guess.
Meg
ps. I going to try to get better pics. *cross fingers*

Got a trim!! Happy day.  Cheesy My hair feels so nice and healthy. I'm still chasing split ends, but I have a feeling that will continue for a while.

The jojoba in the wet hair worked, I think. It feels soft. I did it shortly after getting out and didn't need very much. I did my whole length. It seemed to work. I don't have very many tangles, which is nice too.

I've decided I'm going to take a picture of the trim and compair the length and the texture. A before and after, ya know. Wish me luck getting the camera to work for me.  Tongue

Rain is a wonderful thing. I love going to bed listening to the sound of rain on the roof. It's a natural soother.  Smiley

But, rain=cold and cold after a shower=much colder. *sigh. I am very cold blooded. I wear a sweatshirt when everyone else is in tee shirts. Good thing I'm marrying a hot man.  Wink

So, to prevent getting too cold, I took a shower this morning and put it up in a bun while it was wet. I used little clippies to keep it up. I washed it at 5 this morning and just took it down and I'm still damp. The hair on my scalp is straight and the rest is damp, twisty curly. It's a funny combo.

School is stressing me out. Our play opens in a week and I'm running aroun like a chicken with its head cut off or something to that effect. After the end of next week, my life will get better. After the 13th of May (graduation) my life will get mmmmuuuuuccchhhh simplier. I'm ready to be done with school, if you couldn't tell.  Grin

My mom went to the doctors on Monday (her birthday) and she has to go back in for more surgery because they didn't get it all. She's also going to have to have chemo and radiation. Nothing like more stuff to make life more fun.  Tongue Keep thinking of us.

((((Hugs)))))  for you and your mom.

As for rain - we have having a true spring thunderstorm this morning.  Thunder is booming and the rain is pouring down.  The strange part is that it is really WARM out (at least for us!).  It is 50 degrees at 7am!  I like spring rains - they clean everything up and help melt the last, ugly snow piles.  Smiley  OK - I know I'm strange - but then I love to live in MN!  Grin

Thank you all.
Yep, rain sure does clean it all up. The sky is a beautiful blue and everything is clear. It's a nice crisp 65 degrees.  Cheesy

I've been home this afternoon and playing with the pictures we had taken as engagement pictures. I found the fun ones that feature my hair and want to show them to you. These were taken in Febuary and because they are in black and white don't show my color.
...
This one shows off my length and my funny streak. My hair has natural highlights and the streak in the back is one. The place where it stops in the growth I've gotten since May of '04.

...
My hair here is a little messy but you can see what it does normally with the curls. I like it. It makes it easy to style. Pile on top, bobbie pin and viola, nice hair style.  Cheesy

For these pictures, we went to a park that has an organ pavillion and took pictures there. It was a cold day and when we weren't taking pictures, I was wearing a jacket!  Smiley

Thanks everyone. I think he's cute and I'm so wonderfully happy.  Cheesy

Hair is ok. I finger-combed it and chased some split ends this morning during class. It's in a wavy mood. I'm due for a wash tomorrow.

Mom-she is going in for another surgery on Wednesday and then after she has healed, she can hopefully start cemo so she can be done with it by the time I get married.  Tongue Keep thinking of us.

Weather (for San Diego) is here. We've been getting rain on and off and today it's been super windy (cold, hold-on-to-your-hat windy) I'm so glad I put my hair in a braid this morning. Otherwise, my hair would be only suitable for a bird's nest.
Mom had surgery this morning and I haven't heard anything, but no news is good news at this point.

Mom is doing wonderfully. She's healing at home and when she feels more energetic, she's going to keep working on sewing my dress! She's a trooper.

Hair in a bun today. It's out of the way and behaving (mostly). When my hair is extra curly (like today) it doesn't stay in the bun well. I have little curlies poking out. But, it's not all falling out, so I'm satisfied.

Tomorrow is my sleep in day and wash day. Looking forward to that. School is almost done. I have 24 school days left!! I'm very excited. After that, I'm all done!

Thanks everyone.
Angel Spun- San Diego all the way. I don't remember if I knew you were a Californian or not. You know the way brains work. Roll Eyes

Washed my hair today. I was in a bit of a hurry, but I think it's still ok. I was finger combing it yesterday and was so happy how soft and shinny it is. Too bad because it's curly, I don't pet it very often (it would go frizzy on me)

I think my trim helped a lot with my split end problem. I still find them, but they are harder to find and in less abundance.

Time is ticking away. 22 days left of school. So much to do and then I'm done!!  Grin The show we were putting on for school finished on Saturday. I am now free during the evenings (no more rehearsals or productions) It will be a nice feeling.
I've discovered I've been so busy that I've not been taking proper care of my hair. The last couple times I've washed, I was in a hurry and didn't give enough time or attention to my hair. It's dry today.  Tongue I need to wash tomorrow and give myself more time. When school is done, I'll have more time to take my time. *sigh
Yesterday was the most wonderful day ever.  Smiley I had.....nothing to do. I went to church and then came home and did nothing. I think I took about 3 naps and watched a couple movies. It is so nice to know you could do something, but you don't have to. John and I just layed around and relaxed.
Easter week, so I have only 3 days of classes! Life keeps getting better and better.

Geeze. Long time no type. Lots has happened (which would be why I haven't been on in a while)
Ok, last week I got a lot done on the wedding because I didn't have school Thursday, Friday or Monday. I did alot of relaxing and had a nice time spending time with my fiance.
Did some gift registration on the 10th and discovered something: I can't take my fiance and my mom on the same trip. They both have different ideas of what should go in our house and they confilct.  Tongue *sigh. I had take Mom again on Thursday and John on Monday. I think I've got it figured out.  Smiley
Mom has to have chemo and radiation. She started her chemo yesterday and seems to be ok. She's tired, but not nauseous which is a good thing. She has to do this once every 3 weeks for four months which means she will be mid-treatment for my wedding  Cry I hope everything works out ok.
Because of all the fun last week, I didn't get to wash my hair for several days (from tuesday to sunday) My hair seemed to be ok. It didn't seem to do anything to it. It was just wavy because when I don't get it wet it loses it's curl and just waves. Back to my normal routine of washing every day or so.
Thinking growing thoughts. I'm going to measure soon.

Wishing all the best for your mother. I really hope she stays strong & beautiful & pulls through this.

And yes, I'm a native San Diegan, like you. In fact, I don't live very far from BP.

Are you going to have the wedding locally? Hopefully your hair will be verrrrrry long by then, and your curls perfect on the big day.  Grin

Thanks. Yes, I am having the wedding locally. We are having it at Horizon Christian Fellowship in Clairemont. You can come if you like.  Smiley

Played tennis today and I'm quite warm. It is finally warming up and I think spring is here!  Grin (not that our "not spring" time is all that bad  Roll Eyes)

I have a senior dessert to go to today. It's fun being invited to all this "this is the last time we will see you all, so let us do something special for you" I have at least one to go to a week. A dessert this week, an end of the year party next week, a dinner cruise around the bay next Sunday, a department dinner, and a end of the year party for my major. Yep, I'm going to enjoy being pampered. Smiley

Meg, I'm so sorry your mother has to go through chemo--and right when your wedding is happening.  I'm a firm believer, though, that there are no coincidences in life.  So I don't think your wonderful day and her chemo are happenstance.  I think your wedding and the planning will help keep her motivated and happy--give her something else to focus on besides herself.  If and when her hair starts to fall out, tell her not to worry.  It does grow back.   Smiley  *hugs*

Thanks. I think you are right. She's a little depressed right now and feeling sick. I hope I can brighten her day and keep her mind off the fact that she feels awful.

Hair doing good today. I always love the "just washed it and it looks and feels wonderful" look.
The funnies thing happened to me the other day. I was at work and I want measuring my hair. I didn't have anything, but a ruler so it must have looked funny. Anyway, my boss (who's really relaxed and doesn't care too much what I do on the clock) walked by with another lady and gave me this look like "what the heck are you doing?!?" The lady saw the look and said matter-o-factly "she's measuring her hair." Just like that.  Cheesy It was great to see that other women don't think I'm weird seeing me struggling to measure my length to see just how much longer I have to go to my goal length.

AARRRGGG. My hair was fine not that long ago. It's getting prickly and the ends are spliting. I need to oil it tonight and get back on S&D. I haven't done that in a while. Geeze, there's no rest for the weary (don't know where that came from, but there you go)

Life is good. School is almost done and I'm not really stressing out. I don't have all that much to do.  Lucky me Cheesy

My mom is doing better. The chemo made her sick until yesterday when she was feeling good enought to go to church! That's a plus. I just hope she can get back to sewing my dress before she has another treatment.

Geeze. Life is getting crazy. I've not been writing.
Last week I managed (by odd and unforseen circomstances) to not wash my hair for a whole week.  Shocked Tongue I oiled it, so it did ok. It was very happy though when I did wash it on Friday.
When on a Senior cruise around the bay last night. It was a formal affair so I played with my hair. I put it up in a high ponytail and then pinned up the curls into a big pile around the ponytail. I left a little hair out of the pony itself and made little braids to accent the pile of curls. It was fun. I was able to do my sister's hair too. Her's is a little shorter than BSL. She's keeping it long for my wedding (she's the type who does nothing to her hair because she doesn't want to mess with it at all  Tongue) I did her hair half up and half down. The part up I divided into little sections and twisted each section until it curled back on itself, thus creating curls. I then pinned it up above the ponytail holder, making a crown of ends sticking up above her head. It looked cute. I'm sad I didn't get any pictures myself. I'll have to see if I can find anyone who did get pictures.
School is coming to an end and I'm not stressing!! That's a first. Usually I'm freaking out about homework and papers due. But this year, I'm pretty much home-free already. It pays to be smart.  Cheesy

So, you've heard the phrase "when it rains, it pores". Well, yeah, it's poring out here (figuratively).

Change is my middle name for the next, oh say, 3 months. I will no longer be a single student, living at the same house since I was 1, working the same waitrissing job for 5 years. I will be a married non-student living in a different house with a different phone number and a different last name and possibly getting a different job! That may not sound all that different, but for me it's alot. Undecided Geeze.

The job I've been working at for 5 years, only once a week because I was a student, may not have room for me to work more than one or two days a week (which would not give me the money I would need to pay off my student loans) So, unless someone quits the resturant so I can have their job, I may have to go work somewhere else.  Embarrassed Not ideal.

My mom is doing good. She is due for her next treatment on Tuesday (a couple days before my graduation, so we will have to see how she is feeling to see if she can come) Her spirit is up. She bought herself a wig yesterday and was excited about it. It's cute on her. Her hair isn't falling out yet, but it pays to be prepared.

Hair going the same old same old. Once I get out of school, I will have time to pay better attention to my hair (like washing it more consistently) Oh well.

All the "changes" you have going on in your life - they are defining a pivital point in your life.  I remember going thru that myself.  I graduated from college, got married, moved to a new state and had to find a job; all within a month.

It can be scarey but on the other hand, it is the start to a wonderful new adventure where you define yourself.  Enjoy it!

Thank you ladies. I really appricate it.
So, today's the big day: mom shaved her head.  Undecided She discribed her hair fall-out like taking the husk off of corn on the cob, when you can't seem to remove all of the hair-like stuff. She was in the shower and was getting hair all over. She just gave in and with the help of a friend, shaved it all off. Here starts the adventure.
Graduation in 9 days!!! So ready to be done.

I can't imagine what you and your mom must be going through...I have you in my prayers and thoughts.  I think loosing your hair for a woman is especially tramatic.  Not to leave the men out,but for women it's different.  My heart's there for you.....

My grandmother went through the same thing when she lost her hair to chemo. She made my grandfather shave her head with the "clippers" he'd never used before.  Undecided
She wore wigs and beanies for the rest of her life. God rest her soul.  Cry

I hope and pray that your mother will fare much better. That her recovery will be full and swift-like, and that her hair will grow back full and swift-like (and even more beautiful than it was before). My heart is with both of you as well.

Thank you all. She is pretty upbeat about the whole thing. It makes it easier for the rest of us. She laughs at what she looks like in the mirror. She's been making hats for the past 2 weeks. So, not she gets to try them all out. We had a hat fashion show last night. She's my hero.

Didn't get to wash this morning. *sigh, I eagerly await for school to be done so I can get caught up on my sleep and get stuff done I need to get done.

I need to get back on the S&D daily routine.

Ah, yes, the losing of the hair...it does, indeed, suck.  I think she did the right thing, difficult as it was/is.  I had my hair shaved the day of, and right after, treatment #2.  Just keep reminding her that the hair is NOT what makes her beautiful; it comes from within and she IS definitely beautiful.   Smiley  God bless...

Thanks. She's doing well. Had her second treatment yesterday. We'll see if she feels up for a trip to school to see me graduate. If not, she and dad can stay home and rest. My sisters, my fiance and his family are coming. That's fine by me.
Have a party with my department today. I asked my sister to do my hair. She isn't very gentle with hair, but it's ok. She wasn't too bad. I brushed it for the first time in like a year. Geeze. It's been that long! It's now up in a pretty french-twist thing. It's nice. My fly-aways have to be tamed by gel, but all looks good.
This means a wash is coming soon. Smiley

Just a note to say hi and that I'm still here.  Cheesy

My hair has been kind of dry lately. I tried a deep treatment of warm olive oil and honey. It was sticky and didn't seem to do much for my hair, so I may not try it again.

Mom is going good. She has an extra week off chemo this month and will have an extra week in July for the wedding. She and I have been doing wedding stuff. It's been fun. I've started sewing the bridesmaid's dresses. That will be a challange. There are 5 of them. Wish my luck.

I'm looking for an aloe gel to use on my curlies. That should be an adventure too.

Count down to wedding!  Always stressfull.  Good luck with the dresses - you are brave to make them yourself.  I only made my sister's dress for my wedding - that was enough stress for me!

Glad your mom with have an extra week off the chemo for the wedding.  I'm praying she will be strong and can enjoy the special day.

Best of luck to you in making your bridesmaids' dresses. That is indeed a lot of work! Try not to get too stressed out.

Best also to your mother. I really hope she beats this thing and comes back 100%.

Holy Molie! It's been a while! I guess I've been more busy that i thought. Shocked

Update on life: Wedding plans are going well. The dresses are about half done. Mom is recovering from her last chemo before the wedding. After the wedding, she has 2 more doses left then radiation. John and I were able to go together to a youth camp the last week of June. It wore me out, but it was lots of fun. We finished moving him into his new apartment and are in the process of moving the stuff i don't need right now in.

My hair: oh dear. My busy schedule has left not much room for my hair. Either that or I'm just lazy.  Roll Eyes Planning on washing it once I'm done here. It's been needing a good oiling, so that's on the to do list.

I got a wonderful surprise. Sakina sent me a present! A self heating cap for deep conditioning and some hair stuff. I'm excited to try it out and see if it works. Thanks Sakina!! Grin

All is going well. My hair isn't growing as fast as I had hoped, so I won't be at the length I wanted it to be at for the wedding, but it's still quite long. I will send you pictures of what I end up doing for my hair style.

Thanks everyone. 2 DAYS!! Geeze. Is this really happening? I feel like I'm getting ready to attend someone else's wedding, not my own.

The dress is just about done. One little detail left to do. It's wonderful, but hotter than I expected.  Tongue Oh well. That's ok. If nothing else, I'll lose weight by sweating.  Roll Eyes

My hair is doing well. I've been oiling alot lately and washing right away when I go swimming (which I've been doing lately!) It seems to be doing well. I've been wearing it up alot and trying new do's like just piling it on top of my head and pinning it up there (very easy and stylish) or the ever easy braid-bun. The final measurment (sp?) is 26.5". Not the waist-length I had wanted, but getting there.

Other than that, life is good. I've almost finished moving into the new apartment and for our honeymoon, we're going into the mountains to a friends house for a week. I'm very excited.

Thank you, thank you thank you, everyone! Wow, you must all think I fell off the face of the earth, huh? My life has changed a lot and I was just lazy.  Roll Eyes
Well, I'm back and with lots to tell. Oh where to start....oh how about the wedding?  Cheesy

The day was the most wonderful thing ever. I was not stressed at all (though I got a little bit of stage fright before going out before all those people! more on that later) I chose to get married on a record breaking day for heat everywhere in San Diego. It was 113 where we were going to be living and about 109 where the cerimony was happening! Needless to say, I was a little hot! But the weather cooled off some and we had shade for the cerimony so it was actually quite nice.

My dress was perfect. My mom has finished the last touches the day before (not last min. at all  Roll Eyes) It was made from a costume pattern: A-line, princess cut, with lacing up the back. I then had a lace overdress that went over it. It was very nice. My bridesmaids had the same pattern, but without the overdress and had cap sleeves. They were all beautiful. I had my two little sisters (21 and 19), my husband's sister and sister-in-law and my best friend. His groomsmen were in just vests, no jackets (which they were very greatful for, cooler that way) All the bridal party was in royal blue and my dress was cream.

For maggie, my flowers were done by the mom of one of my young people I work with. She was very excited. I had white roses, blueish irises, and a big white flower in the middle that looked kind of like an iris in shape, but I have no idea was it was. I told her the colors I wanted and she picked most of the flowers. I'm not a really picky person when it comes to flowers. The groomsmen has carnation button hole flowers (can't spell the real word) and the girls had long stemmed candle holders with some fake carnation and roses around the bases. I figured that giving them candles would be different and cheaper. It gave a nice effect.

The pictures are online (I hope they are still there) The address is http://agapephotography.lifepics.com/. Just type in Circo and you can see them if they are still up. I'm not sure how long they are going to be up. I hope to be downloading some on to my computer so you can see them here.

My hair....well, I chose the hair style that I put up in the "wedding styles", the one with the long hair. And I asked a lady friend of mine who is a hair dresser to do it for me. I loved the result, but I wasn't quite prepared for the process. Instead of using my natural curl, she just curled it all with a curling iron (after blow-drying it) I was on the edge of my seat the whole time, thinking "what must my hair be thinking, will it survive and how will I get it all out again?"  Embarrassed. It looked good in the end though. I had it half up, half down. The top was pulled back into a little bun on the top of my head, under which I put my veil (which didn't go over my face, it was just there for effect) I had around 30 bobby pins in it to take out later and needed a shower something awful.

The wedding itself went wonderfully. We had a recieving line after the wedding to say hi to everyone. It took us 45 min. to get through it all and not everyone went through. We had over an estimated 400 people! More chairs then we had. We had standing room only!  Shocked I guess we know alot of people.  Undecided It was cool. At the end, my feet were tired and I was ready to leave in our borrowed, 1959 New Yorker, the most beautiful car I had ever seen and it matched our colors. We had borrowed the car so no one would be able to "decorate" our get-away car.  Wink And it made for a grand exit.

The honeymoon was great. We stayed in town the first couple nights in a little Bed and Breakfast which I didn't even know was here. Then we went up to a little mountain town and stayed in the cabin of a friend of mine. The family was kind enought to loan it to us. It was so nice. Secluded, but with a little mountain town that we could explore. Oh and side note, I forgot to bring my comb and my oil on the honeymoon!  Embarrassed So, after all that abuse, I couldn't make it feel better. I had to wait until we got home on Friday to comb the rat's nests out of it. It's still not sure if it wants to talk to me.

Since then, we've been getting settled into the new apartment. We got so many gifts. It took us 4 hours to open them all and that's doing it the economy way "he opens the card, I open the present"!  Shocked It took us 3 car loads to get it back to the apartment and we still have presents stacked in the living room because I just don't know where to put it all. My computer situation has changed. I'm now on dial-up, so anything I do takes longer. I should still visit (more often than once a month) and will keep you updated.

Thanks for sticking in there and reading my book here. I hope all is going well and it won't take me very long to get caught up.

I can see them now!

Your dress was gorgeous!  I love the simple lines.  And your hair looked fantastic.  Cheesy  You were a glowing, beautiful bride (and hubby is quite handsome as well!).

Thank you for sharing your pictures - it looks like it was a lovely ceremony - elegant without being overstated.

Congratulations!

Thanks you guys. I'm glad you could see the pictures. I wasn't sure if they were still up.
I bought some hot oil to use in my hair. It's the suave brand. I haven't used it yet. I might today. I need to get back into the habit of combing my hair some. I forget and don't, except for finger combing when I'm bored every week or so, but I get tangles more often than that.
I need to buy some AV for a rince. I borrowed some Basalmic vinagar from my sister-in-law. It didn't seem to do anything bad, but didn't seem to do a whole lot of good either.  Funny how much I took for granted in the fact that my mom always had some on hand. Now, I go looking and we don't have any so I have to go and get some. One of the new things I have to learn.

Thanks, Curlgirl.
I'm catching up. I finally took off my ticker after 40 after the event!  Roll Eyes
Life good. Getting settled in is fun. He's been sick this last week, so I've had a nice time taking care of him. It's my mothing instinct (spelling?)
On the hair front, I'm fighting hard. It's hot out here and I find no better way to cool off then the pool. And you know that means I've got terrible crunchy hair. I wash right away when I get out and oil all the time, but I keep swimming and I'm back where I started. Any help with getting cool or keeping my hair healthy while swimming?

A couple of things you can consider when swimming:
1.  Rinse your hair BEFORE swimming in fresh water.  The hair will absorb this water and minimize how much of the chlorinated pool water is absorbed.

2.  Rinse your hair AFTER swimming in fresh water, then add conditioner to re-moisturize your hair.

3.  Depending on how you feel about adding "stuff" to the pool water, you could consider oiling or adding conditioner to your hair before swimming.  This helps to coat and protect the hair.

4.  Wear a swim cap?  Or at least try to put a baggy on the length of your hair.  Braiding it then putting the braid into a plastic bag which is held in place with a rubber band works well.

You are so lucky to have a pool to jump into when it is hot....sigh.  I'd love to have a pool that handy.

Thanks, BB.
Life here is getting more bearable. It's cooling down a little. It's only about 94 avarage now.  Tongue
Hair is still recovering. It's a little crunchy, straw-like at the ends. I'm going to do a hot oil treatment today and see if it helps. I also need to start really doing some S&D again. Since it's been so hot, I wear my hair up, but I've gotten out of the habit of combing, so I have knotts from when I put it up. I hope getting it softer will help with that.

I don't know if your hair would act like mine, but when my ends get crunchy, I know it is time for a vinegar rinse.

We've entered our Fall season here, which means it can be 85 one day and 58 the next.  We are in a "cold" spell right now, the daily highs are barely reaching 60.  But they promise 70's by the weekend.  Smiley

Holy Smokes! It's kind of been a while?!? Shocked Wow, I like what you've done with the place. I leave for what, 2 months or so and you redo everythin. It's a nice and fun change. You have my approval.  Roll Eyes

I missed you guys. Life has been a little crazy and the internet isn't always the easiest thing to get along with either. I think I'm just too lazy sometimes. But I'm back again!
My hair is doing much better. I have gone with 3 washes a week, usually Tuesdays, Fridays and Sundays (depending on what's going on and if I feel like a wash or not) I am also becoming more regular with combing. I used to leave it uncombed for a couple washes and when I couldn't stand the rat's nest, would comb it. This would result in damage and that would be discouraging. I found if I comb after every shower (once it dries) it is much easier to handle and gets more healthier. Yah for healthy hair. It's nice and soft now. I still need to do some S&D, but I don't think I'm making too many more like I was.

Mom is doing wonderfully. She finished treatment and as a reward, she and my dad went to DC. Very fun for them. Her hair is growing back and it's about a .5" long. It used to be a medium dark blond, now it's a salt and pepper color. Very odd. She should be done now. I haven't heard otherwise yet. I have faith she's finished with this adventure.

Married life is wonderful and I couldn't be having a better time living with someone. We've decided to give our relationship a year to grow on its own before we upset it by having kids (which we will at some point soon) I'm excited for that time, but am enjoying life now.

That's about it for now. Wow, it's almost Dec. Geeze. Time flies when you're having fun.

Welcome back, Meg!  I'm glad to hear your mom is doing well and is moving forward in life.  I'm also glad to hear your life is going well.  Cheesy  I agree with the "wait a while before kids" mentality.  You need to make sure the two of you have built a strong relationship before bringing kids into the picture - believe me - kids can challenge your relationship at times.  Grin  But I'm sure you guys will be great parents when you decide to go down that path.

Now,  tell us everything else that has been going on in your life!  Cheesy

Good to see you again, Meg!

Glad to hear such positive news in the lives of you & your family. Y'all deserve it.  Smiley

It's not uncommon for people who finish chemotherapy to grow completely different hair than they had beforehand. Maybe now you can be your mother's inspiration to have long, gorgeous, healthy hair since this will be kind of a time of renewal for her.  Smiley

All the best to you guys. I'll be thinkin' of ya! Oh, and do look me up if you're ever in the east county area.  Wink

Nice to see you back, Meg!  Hopefully things are calming down for you.
The different hair color/texture after chemo isn't uncommon.  I was a natural dark blond before, but since chemo I'm a brunette.   Smiley  Take care and pop in when you have time.

Glad to know y'all remember me.  Smiley Well, here I am poping in again, now that it's the end of Jan. Life is good. Had a birthday. I'm a year older now.  My husband got dismissed from his job 2 weeks before Christmas and hasn't had a job since. He is currently interviewing for a history teaching position at a local jr. high. He's excited. His dream has been to teach and this would make his year.
My hair is suffering a little. I get lazy and don't comb it after it had dried from a shower. It does better if I brush it then rather then waiting until a couple days later.  Undecided Bad me. So, it needs a trim, but I don't know if that will help the splits. I do S&D every once in a while, but it's kind of rampant, so it doesn't seem to do much. *sigh.
Well, glad to see you all are still around and typing. I will drop by every once in a while and visit.
Meg
