I'm glad you had a fun time backpacking.  That's one of my favorite hobbies.  I found that if I detangle everynight I before I go to sleep and tie my hair up in the morning for hiking then tangles are kept to a minimum.  Just make sure you sleep with something under your head.  Being tired after a long day I made the mistake of just lying down and not bothering to make a bed.  Bad idea!  I won the 'most objects sticking to/stuck in hair' award when I woke up the next morning.
