New to the site, but not new to growing!
Oct 26th, 2005 at 6:05pm

Hi... My name is Kim (my dad always used to call me Kimberlily, hence my username). I found the board through another hair board... clicked on the link to AnaisSatin's journal. I'm new here, but not new to growing my hair.

I've been growing my hair since May 2002, after the birth of my daughter. I had a bout of pregnancy-induced insanity and chopped off my BSL hair, thinking "oh, short hair will be easier when the baby comes". Hah  Tongue

Anyway, my hair is once again BSL. Damaged from chemical colouring and constant blowdrying when I was working, but now that I'm a stay at home mom (with our second baby, born in August/05) I've been much nicer to my hair. Dyed it closer to my natural colour, and my hair hasn't felt the scorch of the blowdryer in at least 8 months  Smiley

I'm going to need a trim soon, and I've got damage that goes up more than an inch in my length. I've also got layers to grow out. My trim will likely be about 2". A lot, yes, but it will get ALL of the damage, and even out my length a bit so that I won't have as many layers. The layers need some TLC too.

Since I'm not new to growing my hair, I think I have a few things to share with other people here... including some recipes I'm going to post in a minute!

Thanks  Smiley It is a battle to keep my hair shiny, since we have hard water here. I do an ACV rinse every time I wash my hair (twice a week) to get rid of the mineral buildup. If I don't, I can't comb it!

Adding some info...

How long is your hair? Right now, BSL. About 24 inches from my hairline.

What color is your hair? Dark brown, with auburn undertones, thanks to my past hairdye use.

Is your hair straight/curly/wavy? Yes! Okay, some is straight, and some is wavy. Mostly the hair growing out of the top of my head and my temples is straight, but everything else is wavy.

Do you have favorite products to use on your hair? I only use two storebought products... Aussie Moist shampoo & conditioner. They're inexpensive, and my hair likes them. I also make my own deep conditioning mayo treatment, and a leave-in spray. Both recipes are posted on the recipe section.

What are your favorite hair accessories? None, really. I'm used to just twisting my hair up and putting it in a jaw clip. I'm pretty lazy about styling. I recently bought some hairstick blanks though, and plan on adding beads. I just need to learn how to use hairsticks! They never stay in... so I must be doing something wrong.

Welcome aboard, kimberlily!

Thanx for sharing your hair recipes - I'll have to try them out!

Like you, I am now enjoying life without artificial colour. Gave up the blowfryer in my teens, thankfully.

Hope to read many more of your posts in the future. God bless and happy growing.

Hi Kimberlily (sounds so pretty Cheesy), welcome!

This is where I learned how to used my hairsticks, it's actually the reason I found the boards in the first place!  I bought a cheap pair of sticks & couldn't use 'em for the life of me, I figured I get some help somewhere on the net, and I did!  Your hair looks so nice and thick & shiny, doesn't appear damaged in the photo.  Happy hair growing!  Grin
