Hi I call myself snowwhite on this board, that's due to the color of my skin.
Actually I could have played the character perfectly, everything matches, except my hair is longer.

I've not cut my hair in about 13 years.
Looking forward to getting to know each of you, hoping for some help with my hair concerns.

My hair is dark brown, naturally curlt, and at one time was to my tail bone.
It has been braking off bad, I used hot stiks for about a year, and didn't notice the breakage at first.
Due to a relegious conviction I don't cut my hair, nor will I allow myself to do it, so... cutting off the damage just isn't an option for me. ( Sometimes, I honestly wish it were )
I really need some help to get it growing again, its very dry and frizzy, it's broken off a lot. I use cholesterol deep conditioner in it, and anti frizz serum.
I use flocked hot rollers 2-3 times a week, and wash it every other day or so.
I must use the hot rollers if I don't want to look like Gilda Radner.

Any help would be appreciated, I would really like to have hair long enough to sit on, or longer, but it just doesn't seem to be growing anymore.

Welcome aboard snowwhite. Glad to have you with us. Smiley
Since you can't cut the badly damaged hair the answer is only one: oiling!
You have to understand and decide that there will be a period that your hair will be recovering and that will take a bit of time. But, stop the ironing or at least do it when it is really unavoidable.
Deep condition your hair intensely at first, and use a bit of oil for the length every night. With time it will heal somewhat. If your hair is extremely damaged only cutting will help the rest of the hair take a breather and recover. Since you can't do that for religious reasons recovery will come slower and to a lesser extent. But it will come!
Oils: many people use jojoba as it is very close to natural sebum I think, or sweet almond oil. Olive oil is the best imho BUT it is much more difficult to wash out. I would suggest starting with jojoba.
Keep in mind that the silicon serums that are sold commercially only mask the damage and don't cure it. Wash your hair every once in a while with a deep cleansing shampoo that removes -cones, or even better do an applecidervinegar (ACV) rinse that will do exactly that in a less harsh way.
Deep condition: look around the board for many recipes for home-made conditioners, or just use shea butter or home made mayo etc.
Oil the length.
And be gentle to your hair, don't yank it, comb out gently and don't iron!

Also, on bad hair days come here for support. We all go through the same ups and downs and it's a nice haven in here Smiley

Like Greek_Lady said: Oiling...i use jojoba and it has really helped my dry hair.

And another thing that helps brig down that bifg poof of frizz, is to braid, or bun after a shower(while wet) and actually that will give you great waves/curls once they air dry and you take 'em down. And never blow dry, that will just make your hair seem bigger and frizzier Tongue, try as much as possible to air dry.

Hope this helps, and Good Luck Smiley

Hello, Snowwhite!

If you want the look of curls without the heat styling damage, opt for a 'sock curling method' or simply put your hair in a braid or bun.

Good luck!

Welcome snowwhite!  You've already gotten a lot of good advice.  Give it a try for a month and see if it doesn't make a difference.  If you have a tendency to play with your hair--put it up, that will keep your ends from getting worse and your hands off Wink
I don't have curly hair, so the poof factor isn't usually a problem, but I have found by doing a good oiling (heavier than my usual almost daily oiling) and leaving in for 30 minutes or so before shampooing, then doing an apple cider vinegar rinse (a couple of "glops" of vinegar in a couple cups of water -- probably a tablespoon of ACV to 1 1/2 cups water or more) between shampoo and conditioning makes my hair behave again.

Welcome. Bravo for sticking by your convictions, even when it's hard.

As the ladies have so far told you, it's not impossible. Keep your chin up and try what sounds the best for you. Give it a little time before trying something else. Hair is a funny thing so it takes some convincing to want to change.

I have curly hair, so I understand the frizz aspect. Oiling it not only gets it healthier at the ends, but helps with frizz.

Good luck and welcome to the board.
