Excuse me for asking a potentially silly question, but: What's a segemented ponytail?

Congrats on your hairwashing strike!  Those are very interesting observations.  I also noticed that I have a waxy phase after several days.  I didn't know if that was normal since people usually describe that they get oily or greasy.  So good to know!  Smiley

Strike Day 11

novusfemina: A segmented ponytail is made by first making a regular ponytail, and then placing additional ties to the tail part 3-4 in apart. Keeps hair in control and looks quite nice. ATM, I need 3 ties for my ponytail.

khrome: Based on what I've read from LHC' WO thread it seems that experiencing waxy hair at some point is quite common.  Smiley

Well, today it's not so good day. I shed more than yesterday, though within normal limits. Many people who go WO experience radical decrease in shedding- for me that hasn't happened at least yet. But, the adjustment period to WO is also supposed to be fairly long- well over a month. I have no idea whether I last that long. One day at a time. If I don't manage the adjustment, I am happy to start working on changing my washing routine to shampooing once a week plus one or two rinses in between.
I noticed grey gunk in my wooden comb and had to clean it  Lips Sealed . I have never cleaned that comb before, so probably all the gunk isn't from this experiment...but I'm pretty sure that a good part is.
Hair is still somewhat waxy and the greasy spot at my crown hasn't gone anywhere- all in all it's clearly worse than yesterday. In a bun, it looks ok though- and when I wear my headwrap it's even better. Grin It's funny how quickly things change.
Positive side effect of experiment: first time ever, I'm able to make neat braids and have them last over 5 minutes. Cheesy

Strike Day 12

I opened my night braid only to discover, that the most waxy part of my hair is now bulk of my length. The ends are fine, the scalp is fine, but oh what a mess the hair in between is! I shed quite a lot while detangling the mess.
Today I went to Helsinki. I had a good thinking & writing session at my workroom. I also did some shopping in summer sales. I found a blue stole to wear with my blue dress on Saturday, and an extra beautiful (is that a word? Wink ) instant bun clip from Accessorize. It is black and decorated with little painted flowers- very cute!
When I came home, I noticed that my Sweet Success oil from Moonchaser had arrived. However, I was so sweaty that I had to hurry in a shower and I didn't have time to try the oil right away. Maybe I'll massage a couple of drops to my scalp later in the evening. I hope it will help to reduce shedding- at least it has a nice fresh, herbal smell that is muchly welcome during this experiment!

Do  you have the address for Moonchaser for the oil?  I used www.moonchaser.com and I don't think that's it!!

Strike Day 13
Good news, but why?

Curlgirl64: I think you can obtain SS hair oil from Ebay. Just try typing Sweet Success Hair Oil to search box. Her username there is Moonchiald.
I got my oil via Longhair Community where she is a member. I just pm'd her and all went smoothly from there.  Smiley

I've been almost two weeks without shampoo now  Shocked Grin. Amazing that I'm still doing this. The wedding is tomorrow, and yes- I'm going there with my hair in whatever condition it chooses to be in tomorrow. If I shampooed it now, I would get just a slippery mess (aka. 1st day hair) that would be impossible to put into a neat updo that would last all day. T was quite shocked when he learned of my plans. "You HAVE to wash your hair, it's a WEDDING we're attending." he said. "Does it look dirty?" I asked. "Umm...just a bit." he said in a lot more hesitant voice (which means that my hair looks very good to him- his mind is so wrapped around the idea that if I haven't shampooed for a while, my hair MUST be a dirty grease pit, and because of that it MUST look dirty whether or not he actually sees it). Grin So that about settled it, especially when I reminded him of the fact that my hair is not really that dirty- I've rinsed it at least once every day, combed regularly etc.
I really shed a chinchilla yesterday- it was just awful. After my hair had dried, I did a scalp massage using a few drops of SS oil. I also applied a couple of drops to my length, hoping that it would help in detangling.
Well, so far today I've shed just a couple of hairs- really, less than on ANY day ever. Also detangling was a breeze. I'm not saying that it's all because of the oil- at least part of the decrease in shedding is probably because I shed this days' share in advance. I suppose that next days will help me to discern how much praise SS oil deserves. I have decided to use a tiny amount of it every day for a while.
I'm having a very good hair day today. My hair is nice and cooperative. Not totally clean-looking, but not very dirty-looking either. Hair still feels a bit greasier than normal- not much though, even there I feel some improvement. I rinsed my hair after exercise, and when it was almost dry, I applied SS oil and did the 3 minute scalp massage, and then oiled my ponytail (I reason that oil to scalp is ok, oil to length is ok, oil to root are of hair is to be avoided). Now I smell faintly of herbs and am happy. The weather today is quite pleasant (not terribly hot, and cloudy that is), so I'm able to wear pretty hairsticks.

Still no urge to wash, so experiment continues! I haven't decided whether I'll wear a simple knot bun or something a little more complicated to the wedding tomorrow, but because of this experiment, my hairstick buns are very stable at the moment. Now, I just need to be able to choose one pair out of a few excellent candidates. Cheesy

Strike Day 15

The wedding was very nice. Traditional, but definitely nice. I put my hair into a knot bun with Zircon d'Or hairsticks. I've never worn that pair in public before- but it was worth the wait. Late in the evening (when my style wasn't in top shape any longer  Wink ) T added a flower to my hairstyle and took a picture:
...
For a hair that hasn't seen shampoo in 14 days the whispie population is still quite perky.

Anyway, both yesterday and today my hair has been quite greasy. The waxiness is totally gone. There has been some grey gunk in my comb but not much  Lips Sealed. I wonder if that was what caused the waxy feeling...
Shedding was low yesterday, today it's back to normal. Because of the wedding, I didn't do anything besides styling to my hair yesterday. Today I've massaged a few drops of SS oil into my scalp, and will rinse it later when I go to the sauna. In spite of the greasies, I feel my hair is doing pretty ok, and so I'm going to continue this experiment. I'm beginning to think that I just may be able to go through the WO adjusting period (~6 weeks). Maybe.

Thanks, both!

Moving: We arranged the internet connection stuff today. I will be without a home internet connection for approx. 3 weeks, starting from next Monday. I'm not sure how often I will visit my workroom during that time. But I hope to be able to check in at least weekly. So I won't be completely out of touch...just mostly. Sad

Strike day 16

Yep, still hanging in here. Hair feels (and looks!) suddenly less greasy. I've rinsed and done the scalp massage thing with SS oil, and that's about it. I don't know how much SS oil has affected to my shedding- bad me, for doing two experiments at once! But I can tell that it's a great product, it absorbs well and I like its fresh, herbal scent. So I consider it a good buy.
