LJ is delurking
Feb 14th, 2006 at 7:08pm

Hi, all. I have been lurking for about a month and in that month have learned so much from everyone. Although I can't regularly post, I wanted to simply walk to the center of the circle, say "hi", and quietly return to my seat in the back, next to the wall.

What should I say, then?

I am a stay-at-home mom to two little ones. I am getting ready to start homeschooling this August. I am currently on a spiritual path that is changing everything about who and how I am. And I am trying to grow my hair.

My Hair Routine in December 2005 (before LongLongs Salon)
Daily shampooing & conditioning w/Pantene products
Wet combing w/seam-full cheap plastic comb from Target
Herbal Essences leave-in spray
Extremely greasy hair--skipping a day of washing out of the question

My New Hair Routine
Wash every 2-3 days w/Chagrin Valley Honey, Beer and Egg shampoo bar, ACV rinse
Wet combing w/seam-free comb
Jojoba oil on the ends
Scalp is getting better and better, no more greasies!

Here is more info about my hair and whatnot. Thanks for reading!

Current hair length: 21” with tons of layers
Goal hair length: BSL
When did you start growing your hair? Spring 2004
What is your average monthly growth rate? don't know
Do you trim your hair, if so how often? about every 6 months
What supplements do you take? Surpass multi-vitamin by Nutrenergy
Do you eat any special foods for hair growth/nutrition etc? Nope
Do you do scalp massages? Nope
What is your favourite shampoo? Chagrin Valley shampoo bars
What is your favourite conditioner? Don’t need one now!
Favourite leave-in conditioner? Have only tried jojoba…I am thinking of making my own whipped shea
Favourite deep conditioner or treatment? Not sure
What are your favourite basic oils? Umm….
What are your favourite essential oils? Uhhh….
What is your favourite product of all time? Starbucks Java Chip ice cream, applied directly to my thighs
What do you like most about your hair? its thickness
What do you like least about your hair? its “fineness”
Do you colour your hair? nope
Do you clarify? ACV every wash
How often do you wash your hair? every 2-3 days
How long does it take to dry? 2 hours
Do you prefer you hair up or down? down
What is your favourite updo? All the layers make buns impossible for now, so I can only do boring ponytails or French braids
Bangs or no bangs? No bangs
Whose hair at LHC do you aspire to? I’m too new to know really
Do you keep a hair journal? Not yet—my husband thinks online journals (like LiveJournal) are weird so I have not had one in a while
How many hairtoys do you own? NONE! Poor me.
Brush or comb? One comb from tenderheaded.com
Do you use hot styling aids on your hair irons/blowdryer etc? None
Do you make/sell any hair care products? nope
What is the last hair-related thing that you bought? Chagrin Valley shampoo bars and soaps
What's your favourite kind of cheese? Parm (the real kind, not from a can!)
Share a funny/inspiring/shocking hair story if you have one: When I was a little girl, my mother insisted on sitting me on a chair in the middle of the kitchen to give me a “pixie” cut. I don't mean once, I mean throughout my childhood. I was mistaken for a boy plenty of times, and have had short hair for most of my life. I am finally at age 32 growing out my hair, and my poor mom, God bless her soul, can’t do a thing about it!

Greetings and welcome, LJ!

What a lovely avatar you have.  Cheesy

It's cool that you've learned so much before ever even joining the boards. I have no doubt that you will come to learn a good deal more throughout your time with us.

God bless and happy growing.  Smiley

My avatar is actually the front of a t-shirt I just bought at Target for $8, believe it or not. Thanks for the welcome!

LOL -- I think it tastes much better if you use the normal entry route, might as well enjoy it before it sticks to the thighs Grin

And the pixie cut -- oh, I had a childhood full of them too.  I expected my mother to have a negative reaction to my long hair now, but the last visit she actually commented how nice my long hair looked and suited me -- a miracle!! That compliment has kept me going for a whole month 8) Grin

Anyway -- Welcome to LL.  Hope you find The spiritual path and happy homeschooling!

Thanks for the welcome, PreciousLocks and Curlygirl22. I think we should start a support group for pixie cut survivors...or maybe that's what LL is for, now that I think about it.

(edited to add curly to my thank-you)

Hi LJ..

Say, that survey looks familiar Wink

Are you on any specific spiritual path, if it's appropriate for me to ask? I have also been focusing more on my spirituality lately so your comment made me curious.

Welcome to Longlocks Smiley

Howdy!  Glad you decided to actively join in!

There are a number of us pixie survivors.  Grin  My hubby refers to me as a hair extremist.  I wear my hair either very short or very long!  Cheesy

Juri and BB, thanks for the warm fuzzies.

Anais, I did steal your survey, I confess. Admiration is the sincerest form of flattery, no? My spiritual path started as an infant with born-again Christian parents (tambourines, speaking in tongues, you name it). Childhood was atheistic. In my early 20's I worked in a new age bookstore so I casually studied Wicca, Buddhism, Kabbalah, etc. Now I am back to Christianity. I've had a fuller life and more transcendent spiritual (even supernatural) experiences as a Christian than I ever did studying other religions, so here I am. That's it in a nutshell. And Anais, I should say that reading about how you tend to your hair inspired me to start taking better care of mine. Thanks for that.

No way, Beesan, I am definitely not a front row-er. Middle left of the room is as close as I'm getting.

Angel Spun, I would just like to say for the record that I am a fellow (former) goth. I guess that means technically I am not a goth, but I have empty piercing holes all over the place, and I still love to wear black. Does that count, or am I just being ignorant?

And here is a random thought about just exactly how weird lurking is: I feel like I already know so much about many of you, and that's creepy. Angel Spun's roomate woes...Anais's troubles with K...maggie's green scalp gunk...now isn't that creepy??  So I felt that I had to de-lurk or I'd soon cross the line from lurker to stalker.
