ohhhhhhhhhhh, care to share the pattern for Sushi Head bun cover??? Smiley I'd love to make one.

There's no pattern cuz I made it up and I can't post pictures  Angry though one day I will, darn you elusive high speed internet!  One day!!!

I used size 10 crochet thread and a size B hook.  I crochet tightly, so you might need a smaller one.

Colors I used:  pink, light green, yellow, red, ecru, white, black

I started with the center.  I drew a circle on a piece of paper the size I wanted the center to be and drew a rough sketch of the various parts and their colors.

I started with a circle of pink then crocheted a half-circle of green around it.  I made a smallish half circle of ecru in the center, then filled in about 2/3 of the remaining space with yellow, and made a thin crescent of red to fill in the remaining space.

I crocheted around the center with white.  I didn't increase properly, so it pokes out in the middle and kind of looks like a bra cup.  For the rice, I followed this pattern:  spiral purse, except in sc instead of hdc.  It looks very nice.  I worked it in a spiral and didn't join the rounds.  I started out increasing every 5th stitch, then every 6th, every 7th...you get the idea.  Stitch markers are a must for this.   Smiley

When it was just about the right size to cover the entire front of my bun (a little smaller, so a border of black would show around the edges), I joined the white and ended off.  I made two rounds of dc in black, no increasing, then 2 rounds of black dc mesh.  I sc'd over the elastic, and done!

To wear, pop the giant sushi over your bun and pin in place with chopsticks.  I used black ones decorated with a maneki neko.  I wore it to work and no-one said a thing.

I've become too predictable.   Roll Eyes

it sounds great!  Thanks. Did you use dc throughout the piece?  I'm not too sure how to start it unless ya chain a few and then join it with slst to make your circle.

I started with the center.  Let's see; I made a pink circle--ch 4, 7 dc in circle, join, end off.  Then I joined on some green and sc'd about 2/3 of the way around the circle.  I made a couple-three rows of that, then ended off.  I had a circle drawn on a piece of paper and I kept checking the center against it so I could keep it round.  If the rows looked as though they would stick out of the circle, I'd dec or inc on the ends.

Then I joined some ecru in the middle of the green part and made a half-circle-ish thing, and ended it off.  Then I joined on some yellow and crochet around the green and ecru till the center was almost circular, end off.  I used a little red to fill in the rest.

Now you have a roughly circular center.  Join white, sc or hdc around.  You'll have to inc in spots; you'll simply have to check if it's lying flat.  I wasn't careful enough and mine didn't.   Roll Eyes  Mark the first stitch.  When you get back to the first stitch, don't join, but contiue around, marking the new first stitch.  If you're going to do the spiral purse pattern, hdc would be fine; however, if you're just going to stitch around, I'd use sc which I think would look better.

I made the black part in dc partly because I was getting lazy and partly because I think it mimicked the smoothness of the seaweed covering of the nori rolls.

So Friday I hung out at work on the internet till after 8, then I filled up my car  Angry and went to Kroger.  It was after 10 when I left (no biggie; I"m a night person) but some weird guy started talking to me in the parking lot about cancer and Palestine, etc.  I drove home the long way around in case he was following  (Mom's all, "Poor thing must be lonely."  That's as may be, Pollyanna, but lonely or not, you do NOT  chat up strange women in parking lots at 10:30 at night.  It could be misunderstood and lead to pepper spraying.  Mom's milk of human kindness needs to curdle a bit or she's going to end up dead somewhere.  Seriously.)

Anyway, I finally get home and struggle up the stairs, carrying all the groceries in.  I go upstairs to change before putting all of them away and when I'm taking my hair down I find that ONE OF MY BUTTERFLY SKY HAIRSTICKS IS GONE!!!!!!  Shocked  My bun had untwisted so the remaining stick was pointing downwards and the other was gone.   Cry

It's not in the car and it's not in the office.  I only hope weird guy didn't keep it as a souvenir.   Tongue

Gorey has bare patches on his neck and it makes him look all scraggly.  Saturday he was on my lap and I realized:  those aren't bare patches.  His fur is growing in grey  If his ruff grows back it's going to be black and grey.  I told him he had to leave; I wanted a black cat, not a patchy black and grey one.  He ignored me completely, and slept on my hip all night.   8)

BPAL:  Cobra Lily.  Love the lily.   Cheesy

I FOUND MY STICK!!!!  I found my stick, I found my stick, I found my stick!   Grin  It was in the parking lot here at work.  It's been lying on the asphalt since Friday night, but it looks ok.  Woohoo!

Monday hair:  Swirly Head.  I found that if I do a chopstick twist at my crown, then braid the tail and bring it across the front, tucking it in on the other side, it looks dressy and a bit retro.  I need at 7-8" stick to do one properly, and I found that my VK sticks work nicely because I can push the stick all the way down until the glass marble is sitting on top of the twist.  I ordered a few 7" sticks from them yesterday.  I like this.  It's deceptively quick, although I have to use a lot of aloe and hairspray to tame the hairs around my face.

Today:  Rosebud Head.  Ear to ear lace braid with rosebud bun.  I'm wearing my Designs by Sandie sticks, the black lampwork beads with the cherries.  Very cute.

I'm making a pair of slippers and last night I put one together, meaning that I didn't have a lap.  All the cats were quite annoyed and let me know it.   Roll Eyes

My scalp is still much oilier than I'd like, though my spritz is helping with the dry canopy problem.  I made a seperate spritz for my roots--black tea and black walnut hull infusion + aloe.  It makes my roots soft and cuts the oil a bit.  Hopefully it'll help control my greys as well.  My hairline is greying quite a bit again so my temple streaks don't stand out as much as I'd like.  Grump.

Crochetville is down.  I understand that there has been some severe unpleasantness (which I tried to stay the #@!! out of) and now the mods say they're exhausted (which I understand) and the return is TBA.  I still have to send thanks for my last Flower Swap present.

BPAL:  Rose Red.  Sweet, light rose.  There wasn't as much astringent greenness this time.  Several people who were standing outside of my office(!) said they loved the rose smell.  I may have gone a bit overboard with the slathering  Wink but it's so light no-one was offended.   8)

BB, I thought about you and your amazing returning hairstick when I found mine.   Cheesy  Your story is still more impressive.   Grin

Yesterday--Spider Head!  I wore my Bronze Jewelers' spiderweb snood.  I love my spiderweb.

Today--Scarf Head!  Galadriel's scarf bun, though I make mine with an oblong scarf so the ends dangle down my back.

I don't think my scalp is quite as oily as it was at the beginning of spring.  Good.  I wasn't looking forward to daily scalp washes.

Aloe is a wonderous thing.  If I had to choose between aloe and oil I don't think I could do it.  My hair is so soft with my aloe-infused spritz; the new spritz for my hairline (tea and aloe with a few drops of lavender eo--no oil) is making my roots soft as well.  It may be one reason my roots aren't as oily, too.

BPAL:  Peony Moon.  So pretty and floral for most of the day.  Now it smells like a creek bed at the height of summer when it's half dried-up.  Not bad exactly, but wood and dried grass and mucky mud and heat.  It's just a morph along the way so I don't mind it so much, but I wouldn't wear it if it smelled like this all the time.  This is the third wearing.  I have very odd chemistry.   8)

Went to a conference this weekend and Mom, Dad, Brother, and Nephew came up as well.  Nephew is now 28 months old and is getting mouthy.  He’s the most adorable thing on two legs, Cheesy  but I’m still glad I can give him back to Daddy when needed.

We went to a little boutique up in the hills and they had FICCARES  Shocked, but only the Maximus Undecided.  They had all sorts of other hairtoys, too; in fact, they had the widest selection of decent hairtoys I’ve ever seen in real life.  I bought a fakarre beak:  medium with little teeth and the entire front was covered with dark brown plastic that had flowers carved underneath.  It looks like amber.  I bought 2 plastic hairsticks—one eggplant-colored that has a wide end with rhinestones pasted on, and one that is backed with floral fabric and tied in a knot on the end.  It also has some rhinestones.  I’ll use them for decoration.  I got an Evita Peroni hairfork with a cluster of red and pink beads on the top and a hairprong with a gold and green sparkly decoration.

I finally got my X-O’s from Precious Plunder.  They do very good work but man are they slow.  I ordered in January.  They did throw in free hair pins to make up for it; oddly enough, they sent 4 of the turquoise and 3 of the tiger’s eye.  I love the X-O’s, but I’m afraid I’m outgrowing them.

Hairstyles Through the Week Thursday:  Scarf Head!  Galadriel’s scarf bun made with an oblong scarf so the ends flow down my back.
Friday:  Bondage Head!  My new turquoise X-O with matching pins.
Saturday Morning:  Braid Head!I twisted my hair back on each side and braided the length, putting my round sunflower barrette at the base of the braid for decoration.  I was going to make the 2 rose buns but they wouldn’t stay.
My braid kept spitting ends and it irritated my neck, so I changed it:
Saturday Evening: Clamp Head!  I used my new fakarre and it looked really nice.  It’s essentially a Birdsnest bun, but a Clamp bun will hold whereas a Birdsnest bun doesn’t do well with my slippery hair.
Sunday:  Swirly Head!  Made with one of my VK Designs sticks, the one with the red marble on top.  Nephew had been using it as a drumstick all weekend and it held up fine.  (I knew Nephew was coming so I didn’t take any of my LL sticks.  I’m no dummy)  When made at the crown of my head this looks surprisingly dressy and complex.  Mom even gave me a compliment.

BPAL:  The Haunted Palace (red rose, Tunisian amber, blood orange, toasted vanilla, heliotrope, gardenia and red musk)  This is a lovely floral citrus at first.  I can smell the rose and the blood orange keeps it light without overpowering it.  It makes me think of a big, dark house at night, all lit up from within, light glowing from behind red-orange curtains.  Unfortunately, the amber starts to turn a bit perfume-y after an hour or so, and now it’s perfume with a touch of musk.  I love the beginning; maybe it would work in a scent locket?

I gave my brother an imp of Fenris Wolf (Rosewood, amber, red musk and a dribble of red sandalwood) )  It’s too masculine for me and I keep trying to enable him.  He liked it.  I offered to get him a bottle next moon.  He’s thinking it over.  Heh heh heh.

I have embarked on a long, long, long term project.  My brother found a program to convert DVDs to mp4s so I'm converting my library.   Grin  I bring my iBook to work and let it run; it takes 2-3 hours per disk, depending on the length.  The quality of the picture suffers in the transfer, but it looks great on the iPod, or if I minimize my QuickTime screen.   8)

Unhappily, it won't work on TV collections that don't have a "play all" option.   Sad  So I can't convert Buffy or The Tick.   Embarrassed  Brother says he'll find a program to fix that, though.   Grin

Some day I'll have all my DVDs on my computer and travel will be easier.  La la la.   Cheesy

Rose Head!  Rose bun held with my Bronze Jewelers' tri-color rose pic.  I'm thinking about getting the rose cascade.  I used my GC Wicked conditioner as a leave-in last night and while it makes my hair smell terrific  8) it made it slippery and the tail slipped out of my bun this afternoon.

I'm going to get their skull bracelet for my brother for his birthday.  He has a skull theme going ever since he got his motorcycle.  His wife hates it.   Roll Eyes  I love skulls, so I'm enabling him.  I even bought my nephew a shirt with a pirate skull over crossed pistols; however, in my defense, I bought it before I knew she was anti-skull.

I really should have known, though.   8)

How can you be anti-skull?  Skulls are cool.  I'm working on a tapestry crochet skull chart that can be made into a bun cover.  That means charting in a circle.  I'm having a little trouble.   Tongue

I joined in a circular swap over at the BPAL forum.  We're pooling our imps so we can all try EVERY scent in the general cataloge.   Grin  *bounce*  I get to:  1.  try all the GC scents, and 2.  send off 19 imps that I don't want.  Win-win!  hee hee.

BPAL:  London (Venerable Victorian Tea Rose… twisted, blackened and emboldened with wickedness)  I haven't worn this for a while and it has changed a bit as it aged.  It was a bouquet of tea roses, pink and a bit overblown--the petals are soft, not crisp.  In the center of the scent was a small, hard, clear swirl of black.  Now it's still rosy but the blackness has diffused throughout and it smells more evil now.  I like it.

Curlgirl, I LOVE Buffy and Angel.  Well, Buffy seasons 1-5 and Angel seasons 1,2, and 5.  Wink  (I can never get enough of the season 5 Angel where he gets turned into a puppet.  Bwahahahaha!  Grin)  Sigh.  I miss Spike.   Embarrassed

I'm designing a cozy for my iPod.  I bought some sport-weight yarn at Wal-Moo, Bernat's "Cool Crochet" (irritating name, but nice yarn) in Neopolitan ice cream colors, which don't really go with my black iPod, but I love the Neopolitan colors; anyway, I'm crocheting a cord cover with it.  For the cozy, I'm going to make the front with a piece of heavy-duty clear vinyl I'll cut out of my shower curtain liner (the upper part on the end away from the nozzle.  It should be ok, right?  8))  The back, and this is the good part, the back will be made from felt.  But not just any felt.  It will be made from felted cat fur.   Grin  It can be done; I have directions, I have the fur, I have the single-minded weirdness to actually make felt out cat fur.   Grin

The felt will be a dark grey color.  I have fur from Bogie, Rumpole, Agatha, and Gorey.  No, it doesn't really match the Neopolitan colors either.  Roll Eyes

On the felt, I'm going to embroider a lovely Sugar Skull design that I worked out.  It'll be mostly in pink.  Hey, that WILL match the Neopolitan colors.    Wink

If it works out, it should be goregous.  Or at least unique.

Scarf Head!  I had a chocolate brown sheer scarf with not-sheer leaves on it which perfectly matches my new chocolate brown skirt.  I'm so coordinated.
