When to snip?
Jun 13th, 2006 at 1:28pm

Hey...I'm new here and have a question.

When (if) do you all check your hair for split ends and snip off the damage?  I used to do this while I was watching TV, but we gave that up (PTL) and so I find I rarely have time to just sit and snip.  I'm looking for some ideas.

When do you usually work this into your routine?  How often do you snip your ends?

TIA!

I usually look for and trim splits when I am watching TV, on a long phone call, or just relaxing.

If you are having a hard time finding time to trim the splits, maybe you could try to do just sections of your hair in a single setting - don't try to do the whole head.

I try to do these S&D missions about once a month, more if I have the time.

and..... Welcome!

Well... I don't really have the patience to sit and do S&D missions... Tongue

I like to get them all with a trim about every 10 months or so.

It actually saves me some sanity, taking off 1/2 inch at the 10 month mark...  Wink  Otherwise, I'd spend all day looking for splits.  But I'm a little OCD...  Wink

You do whatever you're most comfortable with, ScrapGirl.  But, to save you a little time and energy, if your hair is full of splits, a small trim might make the following S&D missions a little less daunting.

It depends on how long it has been since I've had a haircut or if I've had time to go. If it's going to be a long time before I can go, I will spend some time snipping out the split ones. But most of the time I trim off about two inches twice a year to just get rid of most of them at one time.

I sometimes sit and just cut off the splits when I think about it but find there are so many that I never do a complete job. I have found something that may have repaired my split ends if such a thing is possible. I use Ojon oil on my hair from time to time just to nourish it, I leave it in overnight then wash my hair the next day. Today though, I thought I would just put a bit in the ends of my hair just to see what would happen and the split ends have disappeared. I expect they have fused to the hair so you can't see them. However, I am having a trim on Tuesday, (and I mean a trim hairdresser if you know what's good for you) so hopefully that will rid me of 90% of the split ends. I know I should have more cut off but I just can't get up the courage to have more cut. Perhaps I will start going every six weeks as I used to.

Thanks so much for the replies, everyone....it's very helpful.

I think I've found something that will work for me....I've got a pair of scissors in the van and have started snipping occasionally when dh is driving.  It keeps me entertained, and he doesn't complain that I'm ignoring him like he does when I'm reading in the car, LOL.

Thanks again!
