Another newbie

I stumbled over the LongLocks website this forum not too long ago, and just decided to join. ^^ Thought I should introduce myself.
I've only just decided to start growing my hair long and I've definitely found some very good tips here...My hair is about 14 inches long or so, just below shoulder length, and some weird brown colour--my natural colour is a somewhat mousy brown and I'm trying to grow out the more golden-brown colour I dyed it in.
My hair is slightly wavy, and quite fluffy/frizzy, annoyingly so...which I'm trying to fix. I don't have many favourite products at the moment, I'm experimenting a lot--and I'm gonna try out a few of the stuff I've read about here. My hair is slightly damaged from a period of irregular dying, blow drying and straightening...and since I want at least waist-length hair, that will have to be fixed somehow.

Anyway, just thought I should say hi. Smiley

Cerridwen, welcome to longlocks!  Glad you decided to join.  Wavy hair is naturally drier than straight hair, you may want to look for moisturizing shampoo & conditioner.  Personally I really like Ouidad's Quench shampoo & conditioner and Deep Treatment.  If you like, you can find them at www.ouidad.com.

Are you measuring from your hairline or crown?

I also stopped coloring my hair when I decided to grow it out.  I had a semi-permanent color put on to blend my natural dark blonde and the red I was coloring, I naturally have a lot of red in my hair so it worked out.  For about the first year of growing it out I had trims every 8 weeks to get rid of the damage.  Its up to you how you go about it.  Once the hair is damaged, the damage cannot be undone.  You have to cut it off to get rid of it truly, however you can improve the look & feel of your hair with regular deep conditioning treatments.

Good Luck, see you 'round!

I'm measuring from my hairline--I'm not very fussy about actual numbers and such, although I'm hoping to get my hair about twice as long as it is now, as that would put it somewhere between my waist and hips (I'm only 5'1, so my hair would look long reasonably quickly, really)...but I'm not gonna fuss over measurements, I'll just see how it goes. Smiley

And yeah, I know you can't actually fix the damage--but I want to grow my hair longer before I start cutting the coloured bits off, so I'm going to do what I can to keep it in as good a condition as I can in the meantime.  Smiley

Thank you for the welcome. ^^

Hello Cerridwen! Nice to meet you Smiley! I'm new here too, so we can figure out how this site works together  Smiley. Hopefully, you'll be better then me and not take five- ten minutes to re-log in.   Roll Eyes Smiley From your discription of your hair length sounds like we are about at the same point at the moment. I don't know about you, but I cannot wait for my hair to be long enough to stay behind my head and not fall in front of my face Smiley

~Warmly,
Christine

Oh, yes, I agree with that! It can get quite warm in the summer, and I can rarely be bothered to put my hair up. Roll Eyes

And it seems we have more in common than hair length--my name is Kristine. Wink

And thanks for your welcome, people. ^^

Hi and Welcome!

I have grown out my old dye job.  It took a while and a few cuts.  Hang in there! Wink

Hi and welcome!  When I decided to let my hair grow naturally, I first put some gray highlights in the old dye job.  That way, as my gray came in, it just seemed to fit.  So, whatever your natural color is, you might try some highlights to match.  It doesn't seem so striped that way.  (although I don't normally suggest coloring)

Hmm...sounds like a good idea, really, but I don't think my budget would like it much...and I don't think my hair would like the extra damage, either. Undecided

Still, we'll see. ^^ I might try it if the difference in colour becomes really noticeable as it grows out. As it is there's only about an inch or so of 'virgin hair'.

But thank you. Smiley
