The cone question
Oct 23rd, 2006 at 7:57am

Just wondering how many people here use cones in their shampoo and conditioner.

Right now i am cone free and have been for the last 6months and i am loving the experience.

I tried using no cones for about 6 months. My hair was dry and I had a lot of splits. Recently I went back on cones and my hair loves it! Its so soft now, and not dry at all  Grin. I use Aussie Deep 3 Minute Miracle and I want to try Pantene's Hydrating Curls.

I used to use -cone ladden products all the time, but found my hair to be dry and crunchie.  After I clarified and quit the -cones, my hair became much softer. had more bounce, and shine.  I did find I needed to use my jojoba oil more to keep my hair moisturized, but I prefer the oil to the -cones.

I've been no-cone for about 3 weeks, and I'm trying to decide if I like it or not.  My hair almost has too much life, the -cones helped control it.  My scalp seems to prefer the no-cone life, however.  I'll use up these bottles of no-cone product and decide at that point if I want to continue being -cone free or not.

I always purchase VO5 conditioners because they are cone free.  But this morning I was reading the back of my latest purchase - VO5 Hydrating conditioner - and it clearly has dimethicone!  I was shocked.  I haven't used it, just picked it up as it was a huge (50% more) bottle at the dollar store.  Guess I better read my labels before I purchase.

The more I read about -cones, the more I want to try to move away from them. In addition to the products mentioned by Sexywitch, it would super helpful to read which are your favorite cone-free shampoos and conditioners.

Thanks bunches,

I'm using Burt's Bees Super Shiny Grapefruit and Sugar Beet shampoo and conditioner.  See here:

Burt's Bees is good stuff, I love their lip balm and lotions.

My hair hates cones; as i remember it took a whole month for me to wash away the effects of cones with a non cone clarifying shampoo.

I used to use pantene now i use Aubrey Organics its great and smells like roses

I can actually use both. The bad thing about no cones for me is that my hair tangles a lot and I need the slip.otherwise,I'm fine with no cones.I've been using cones though, because they help a lot with the tangles and I like how they make my hair feels (having built up coney hair isn't fun though,so I clarify as needed). My hair always feels soft and moisturized.I also oil with both cones and no cones.  Smiley

When I first went cone free I had trouble controling my super poofy hair.  Since I started using Ouidad's products, especially her deep treatment my hair has more internal weight so I don't get frizzy or super poofy anymore.
Ouidad's Quench line and Tame line, plus Botanical Boost and the Deep Treatment are my favorite cone free products!!!   Smiley

I wonder if cones work for all hair types or just certain types like oil?

Anyone know?

What hair type does everyone have?

Not all hair likes cones.  My fine blonde hair becomes very brittle if I use cone shampoo or conditioners.  But I know people with coarser hair can benefit from can frequently benefit from the cones.

my hair loves cones but not in shampoos and rinse out conditioners. I use a cocktail of 3 products (bed head ego boost, biosilk silk therapy cure, and bed haed girl toys in equal parts after i get out of the shower and towel dry). I have found that if i don't my hair is very dry and unruly (picture a giant pyrmid sp?) plus the biosilk helps conditon when heat is applied and since i have curly hair i have to blow-dry my bangs every time they get wet.
