bikerbraid Hee hee. I agree with you- paper hankies scratch and irritate skin.

It seems that the each day since mid-week has brought different misery with it.

On Thursday, was the "Nazi Party" meeting. Yesterday, I got fuming mad because of certain news and also ended up spending a great amount of time emailing with those people and my faith in inherent goodness of humanity hit the bottom once again. However, when humanity fails, Rabbithood still goes strong. Pyry kindly spent a long time snoozing happily in my lap while I read Harry Potter and petted his super soft fur (rabbit-owners who read this probably know that normal rabbits aren't creatures you can have sitting in your lap for a long time and read a book at the same time...Pyry is really special that way! Grin Kiss ).
Today, I woke up with a massively sore throat and with a husband who informed that he is really ill. The Flu pt. Infinite is here again. We decided to do our planned shopping, but to cancel the housewarming party. So, instead of socializing with friends I haven't seen in Ages, I spend my evening in my sofa fortress, pouring hot drinks and pills that anesthesize (sp.?) the throat in. Swell.

Hair: So no nice styles for me today. I just did a Mennonite bun in the morning, put a cap on it and that's all. I'm actually still wearing the whole ensemble, cap and everything. It may not be the prettiest style on Earth, but it is very sturdy and comfortable and that's all I need today. In fact, if I were smart, I would do Mennonite buns more often on days when I wear a headcovering. They start low and stress different part of my hair than normal buns, and since they are very flat, they make any headcovering sit perfectly.

Crafts: I mentioned that we managed to complete today's scheduled shopping, didn't I? Well, I finally visited the Big Fabric Store. With the help of a very friendly salesperson, I spent two hours looking for fabrics. They eventually filled four plastic bags and earned me curious looks from both other customers and personnel. Especially when the saleslady told the total price. But I've now got two winter coats, a wrap dress, remaining slipper fabrics, fabric for making placemats and some other cute stuff, and of course notions for everything abovementioned. I couldn't resist purchasing expensive wools for my coats), but my shopping round still cost less than I paid for just one winter coat a couple of winters ago. A good, really expensive coat, I admit. But still. If I had wanted to buy so many ready-made clothes this year, I couldn't have afforded the kind of quality I was now able to. Now I just need to not screw up with cutting and sewing. I plan to be extra careful though. I'm very excited!
No need to go fabric shopping during the whole winter (probably) and no need to ponder how to use my spare time for a long while.

This latest flu turned out to be a really nasty one. Supplemental hankies arrived just in time for action.
T had to rearrange his trip to Sweden (he leaves tomorrow afternoon instead of yesterday evening). For me...this is my third day in bed. I'm doing a bit better though- my head is clear enough so I can knit and play with computer instead of just resting and sneezing. It's not much, but it's a definite improvement and after the past two days, I appreciate it.

Hair: The flu caught me with my night ponytail on. It didn't cross my mind until yesterday that hair might require a little attention. After a long detangling session, I changed to a hairstyle better suitable for a sickbed, namely scarf bun. It's comfortable and survives well even over night. It also makes my hair look somewhat neat even though it's dirty. My last shower was on Friday, and if I feel significantly better tomorrow, I may wash my hair then. If I won't...well, an occassional sebum bath is supposed to be good for hair. At least my scalp doesn't itch. Yet.

Crafts: Since I'm trying to get better before weekend and our first wedding anniversary (yes!!! We've been married longer than many celebs!  Tongue ), I'm going to take the rest of the week nice and easy. Luckily, today I received two huge shipments of goodies. First shipment was a load of astronomy books. I do count reading them as work  Cool , but since they are popularized science, reading them is doable even with a semi-functional brain. The other big package contained the embroidery kits I had ordered. Beautiful pieces- I see many nice evening ahead. Though, I have planned to get back to cross stitching only after I've done with knitting for this winter... You know, sometimes it's hard to love so many different crafts!

Aww, G. Sorry to hear that you're so sick.  Sad  I hate getting the flu! It often keeps me down for months!

Feel better soon, love.

Thank you for kind wishes, Angel Spun.

Today, I feel quite the same as yesterday. I washed my hair because my scalp started to itch and I just couldn't bear it, and made a quick trip to grocery store, but otherwise I'm still spending the day in bed. I don't like the fact that I don't feel significantly better. Tomorrow is Thursday already.
It's now harder to remember that I'm really supposed to rest as I'm now well enough to access my emails and read work-related books. Not HC philosophy yet, but work stuff neverthless. But so far, I have caught myself when bad ideas about how I could spend my time have still existed as ideas only, and have managed not to wander off anywhere. Besides, I'm well entertained. I've got plenty of books: astronomy, Harry Potters, Plato's and some history of philosophy I should read just for revision. I've got new Civilization IV Complete. I've got my cardigan to knit and beautiful stitch kits to drool and try not to touch. I've got two adorable bunnies for company. It's true that T went to Sweden and isn't bringing me hot drinks every couple of hours but neverthless, I'm sitting like a queen.

Speaking of washing hair, I tried CV's new Mud & Clay shampoo bar for the first time. No complaints about it so far, though now is probably not the best time to evaluate shampoos.
I shed a bundle almost the size of Pyry today. I told myself that it's probably many days' worth of hair since I haven't really bothered with combing, but it still looked rather depressing. Now that my hair has been taken care of, I hope I can forget about it until the weekend. With scarf buns, it might be a real possibility, even.

Thank you! Time sure flies. I can't believe it's been another year.

No dramatic improvements in my condition, so today is yet another rest day. I try not to think too much about things I should be doing, things I would be doing if I were healthy. But resting starts slowly to feel like work- a conscious effort.

Hair: I've started to wonder, whether I should adopt scarf bun as my regular night hairstyle. It's so comfortable to sleep with and stays really well. I'm not sure how T would like it though.

Crafts: Received pajama flannels from Fabric.com. They look wonderful, looking at them makes me smile. I can't wait to get well enough to start working with my sewing projects again.
Cardigan is progressing nicely though. I'm now working on the second front piece. After that, it's just sleeves and patch pockets and finishing. Maybe it will help me stay in good health for the rest of the winter. I'm now glad I chose a simple pattern that is easy to follow and doesn't require much counting.

I'm still not feeling better. I've slept a lot, and it seems that my throat is getting more sore again. Blah. T called me late last evening from Sweden, and he sounded really bad as well- much worse than he was when he left, and he said that he's now having an awful throat ache. Sounds familiar. He had managed to give his presentation though. Looks like we're going to spend our anniversary watching new Pirates of the Caribbean from DVD and drinking hot drinks.

Hair: I'm still wearing the scarf bun I made a couple of days ago. It just stays like rock, through sleeping and everything. Hair is slightly dirty, but as long as my ears keep clicking and humming, shower may not be such a good idea. Maybe tomorrow will be a better day.
To my delight, my Gudrun Sjöden shipment arrived today. I had ordered some solid color scarves since they carried them in nice jewel tones. When I opened the package, my jaw dropped- the scarves look really gorgeous, the pictures on the website didn't do any justice to them. The material is fantastic, and the colors are awesome. I'm so glad I didn't content with just one!
I have now practiced tying scarves in bun style. Tznius.com had instructions for making bun style from a square scarf, and I modified it a little because my scarves are rectangular. My creation seems to stay well and looks very nice combined with a dress of contrasting color and spirally ear jewelry. Again, I wish I could share a picture!
The scarves are light enough to be worn indoors, but they also make nice light winter headcoverings. A good buy!

Today is the first normal day for me. It was one nasty influenza! But, save the occassional sneeze, I'm ok now. I expect to be quite busy until Christmas, as I need to catch up with everything: household work, work- work, Christmas preparations and my sewing projects. Even as I write this, I'm preparing very late lunch/early dinner, there's a load of laundry going on and some carpets are out in fresh air. I wish I could snow wash them, but that would require more snow than we have. Well, at least there is some snow- we weren't this lucky last year.

Hair: I've finally made it to the post office and shipped my SS gift.
I've experimented with wearing my hair up in a scarf bun for night. It seems that I'm forever searching for the perfect way to sleep with long hair. Some options (like satin sleep sox) are much better than others, but I have not yet discovered the one thing that would be perfect in every way.
During my illness, I neglected my hair almost completely. Minimal washing, minimal handling, scarf bun day and night. This was a good recipe that allowed me to spare the little energy I had for more important things. Now I'm getting back to normal.
The new Gudrun Sjöden scarves are great. I've played with them, and can already tie them in several styles. The bun style is still my favorite though. Obviously, I'm a bun person through and through!

Crafts: I have enough craft supplies to furnish Santa's workshop. During the flu, most of the stuff I have ordered online have arrived and now fill my sewing room. I plan to start working with the short coat tonight. I'm mighty tired of wearing my old, crappy coat. Keep your thumbs up for me so I get the sizing right! I'm a bit scared of starting to work on a one of a kind project that I need to get right on my first try.
Cardigan is doing well though- it's the only project I have been able to work on. I'm hoping to finish it for Christmas.

I've been insanely busy since the last post. Don't reckon things will calm down before holidays. Note to self: Don't catch influenza at this time of the year.

Hair: I should have T trim my hair any day now. Then my maintaining is done for the time being! Cheesy I'm so ready to see some growth.
Otherwise, no big things happening in hair life. Mud & clay shampoo bar works well, though I think it doesn't get my hair quite as clean as Summer Sunshine. I'm dreaming of having time and energy for doing a proper SMT treatment. Maybe during Christmas holidays...

Crafts: I think I will finish my cardigan just in time for Christmas (and coldest time of the year). I'm also working on my winter jacket. It is turning out more nicely than I anticipated, though I'm not sure if it's a tad too big. It's hard to tell with some parts still missing, but if it is indeed too big, I think I can remedy that easily. In any case, it looks like it's going to be both beautiful and warm. Not quite as plain as I had first in mind, though it still looks nice with dresses.

Hair trimmed this morning. It reaches now just above waist, and the hemline looks really good. And now, I'm done with maintaining. Really done! Hooray!  Cheesy Now I'm returning to my normal trimming schedule, which puts the next small trim to somewhere mid-March. When I reach tailbone, I may have another maintaining phase. We'll see. Right now, I just want to see some growth for a change.

Crafts: Short winter jacket is READY! It wasn't nearly as bad as I had feared. It had many stages, but none of them was that difficult. The result is good. The jacket is perhaps a tad too big from lower part, but the top sits perfectly and the general appearance is quite pro. I give myself 9 out of 10.

Wow, I wish my hemline was looking good.  I'm in the process of growing out layers and bangs and the "u shape" so I still have a long way to go!

A period of patient maintaining really helps.

I've been LHC enabled again, and yes, you all need to know about it.
This time, it's bento- japanese lunch boxes. Well, I'm not in need of packed lunches since I usually have the privilege of eating at home. But T has to eat at work, and so far he has been at mercy of an expensive staff restaurant that produces bland, bad food. He has complained about it at home every now and then, and I've been looking for a way to help him. From what I can tell, bento lunches every now and then (I'm not going to able to serve them every day) will go a long way. So, as a Christmas present, I ordered him a bento box and a heap of accessories from eBay. Ok, I admit, the accessories are probably more for me. Since I'm going to feed him, I might as well make it fun. Probably bento stuff will pay itself back anyway.

I also decided that I need a Christmas present too: two pairs of plugs from Glasswear Studios.

Hair: Washed this morning, now in a knot bun with silver Ficcare Max.

Bento boxes are great!!  I have 3 or 4 of them, and I, too bought a set for hubby.  Did you know they also make a soup bowl version?  I got one but haven't used it-I can almost always eat at home, too.

Yes, I think I saw soup bowls on eBay as well.

I think I will shamelessly practice my bento packing skills on T, and if he seems to like his lunches -I'm planning to base them on leftovers-, I may consider buying myself a box as well. I don't eat away from home often, but when I do visit Helsinki, it is always difficult to find healthy lunches that are not ridiculously expensive. But we'll see!
I also love all the cute little accessories available for bento boxes: animal sauce bottles, egg molds, cups and dividers. I'm in luck since T also likes cute and fun stuff in moderate amounts (I showed him bento boxes for men and he promptly told me that they look boring and he would prefer something with brighter coloring and rabbits). I think he will like what I found. It's a little smaller than the really manly bentos, but then, he is a small guy and doesn't eat huge portions anyway.

I also received a nice bunch of BPALS from a swap. Haven't tried any of them yet, just sniffed Christmas Rose straight from the bottle. It smells very promising!

Waiting also: plugs, pajama pattern in right size (turned out that the one I had was a very generous unisex pattern and instead of size XL, I'm size M), and my Secret Santa gift

Hair today: clean and up with a violet Lotus Ficcare.
