My knitting compulsion
Feb 26th, 2007 at 8:20pm

Ok, I've previously mentioned I knit a bit.  OK, I knit ALOT.  For this past Christmas, I knit and felted slippers for most of my family.  Hubby just finally downloaded the picture of the slippers I had knit before I felted them.  This picture shows most of them.  The red pair in the very middle have already been felted, the rest were felted just after this picture.

Feedback on the slippers has been better than expected.  Everyone says they are really comfy and warm.  I had fun picking out the colors for each person.

Since you are all indicating your favorite colors - the plain gray slippers were all knit for adult men who have no sense of color or fashion.   Tongue  They just wanted function - which I was happy to oblige.  But I was pretty sick of the gray when I finally finished them all.  (I always alternated a color inbetween the dull gray.)

Thank you!  Hmmmm, take orders..... ya right!  Like have any free time!  Grin  I spend 11 months knitting/making all my Christmas presents, I'd have to quit my full time job if I was to take on more knitting.  (Keep in mind, I also have to keep several family members supplied with my hand knit socks, mittens, scarves and hats as well!!)

The slippers don't really take a whole lot of time to make - I can do a women's pair over a snowy weekend.  Men's sizes take a bit longer (and look like clown shoes!).

Oh my ! Oh my ! What a gorgeous, heartmeltingly beautiful, neck breaking, weak kneed reverential, collisions with lamposts inevitable shiny bun ! One very proud and happy owner t’other side I think ! Congrats, it’s very lovely and thanks for showing it.

...

(I’ve simply got to figure all this effusive stuff out soon !!)

Thanks for the compliments on my bun.  It was a good bun day when that was taken.  Smiley
Be sure to check out the contest and guess how the bun is made over on this thread.

Ooh! I bow before your productivity.  Smiley

My favorites are the multicolored ones (shades of pink) in the front row.

Shocked

I would agree you have a (slight) knitting compulsion. There are a number of slippers there. The number is one that is large. Yes. But you missed a color. I didn't see any black ones. I like black ones.

Then there are afgans and socks, right?

BLACK???!!!  Oh my - if it wasn't bad enough the soles are black on most of them.  Black is sooooo boring.  But, I suppose, if someone had requested black I would have made them.

No afghans, but lots and lots of socks, mittens and scarves!

Yes, I'm just a bit compulsive about my knitting.

LaDiosa - felting is what happens when you wash wool in hot water with agitation.  The fiber shrinks and locks it's fibers together making a more solid fabric.  When I knit the slippers, I purposely knit them oversized, then wash and shrink them to size.  The resulting slipper is very warm and comfortable.  You can no longer see the individual stitches that I knit.  If you look at the two red pair in the picture, the ones on the right are before felting and the ones in the middle of the picture have already been felted.  They were the same size when I knit them.
