Guess I was supposed to say Hello first!
Apr 26th, 2007 at 6:20am

i've already got some greeeeeeatttttttt tips and advice in the few days i've been addicted to this site, and i just read about this forum!
so..HI!
i have no clue how i found this site.  it was just one of those random wandering on the internet things.  but i'm so glad i did!
my hair is right above pants level.  i know this because i trimmed it recently so it would stop getting tucked into my pants.
it's med. brown, fine hairs, but tons of it.
i don't really have any favorite products, because my hair has been a hot mess for years, so i guess nothings really working!  i did start to oil with EVOO (am planning on trying jojoba as soon as i get out to shops) and did an overnight leave in with pantene restoratives and after just a week of this extra moisturization and treating my hair like 'antique lace' i think it looks the best it has in years.  i wish i could fast forward a year and see what it'll look like then!  it's definately softer and WAY less frizzy.  it's still poofy on the ends(although less than before), but i think it really just needs a few weeks at least of intense moisture to make up for years of neglect.
i have 3 billion questions, but am very tired right now and none are coming to mind except jojoba oil.  i've read some posts about where people buy it and how much they pay and after a bored day of poking around ebay, i found that there are a lot of people who sell 100% jojoba oil for prices that seem to be much less than others here have said they pay.  has anyone ever used ebay to get it?
oh, another question!  what's the best thing to sunscreen your hair?  i have a one year old and if she doesn't get a walk everyday, i won't have any hair to work with.  and it's usually too hot to wear hats!  is there a product with spf that isn't extremely buildup heavy?
also, my cousin is a hairdresser in a pretty ritzy salon.  she always tells me that when it comes to makeup and hair care, you get what you pay for.  does anyone here think that, and if so, what do you do for a living so you can afford as much product as longhairs use??

Hello!  Glad you stopped in here to give us a proper intro.  Wink

I get my jojoba oil from the VitaminShoppe.

As for the amount of product used - I've actually reduced the amount I use now that I know how to use them better.  I usually dilute my shampoo and conditioners so that they go further and are more effective.

LOL Stacy. Welcome aboard. You're the only other person that I've known to use the term "hot mess" besides my sister and myself. haha  Grin

Unfortunately, I have zero experience with jojoba oil, so...  Undecided

As a heliophobe/creature of the night who lives in SoCal (irony?), sun protection/avoidance is part of my daily life.
You know the old mantra that the best way to protect yourself from something is to avoid it? This is true of the sun, especially when you live in high-risk areas (such as Hawaii and pretty much anywhere in the southwestern US). The best protection for your hair against the sun is shade. If you absolutely cannot wear a hat, try wearing a scarf or carrying a parasol or umbrella. No one will think you're "weird," trust me.
Also, try to schedule your walks when the sun is not out in full force, such as earlier in the morning or later in the evening. UV rays are not as harsh during those times, so there will be less risk for your hair and skin.
As far as products go, a few companies made shampoos, conditioners and leave-in's with UV filters built right in, although I haven't seen anything like that on the market in quite awhile.

I'm a firm believer in the "you get what you pay for" philosophy. My father once explained it thus: It's not a matter of saving money. It's what you can live with. Most of the time, when you pay less for something, it isn't going to work as well, and you'll have to end up compensating somehow. What you have to decide is whether or not it's worth it to you to deal with all of the other crap that goes along with paying less for something. And almost always, the answer is no.

Does that mean that I spend $60 for a bottle of shampoo? No. I buy and use what works for my hair and refuse to settle for less. This means experimenting, reading labels and using common sense.
As to my occupation, well, I could tell you...but then I'd have to kill you.  Wink  j/k

haha!
i think i'm going to go back to my old detroit habits of bandana's over the hair.  it keeps my stupid growing out bangs out of my face anyway.
but i do tend to go out normally in early eve because the skies so much prettier and i can catch the sunset over the water.  so yay for doing one thing right-ish!
i've been using evoo for a week now and my hair seems to really like it.  i just want to give the jojoba a spin, just in case.
sigh....i guess i'll call my cousin the hairstylist and she was she recommends, besides cutting my hair off.  she's been fiending to do that for years.  whenever we have family get togethers i know she's restraining herself from grabbing scissors and hacking it off.
i'm trying to gear myself up to try a -cone free life and see how that goes but i'm scared!  my hair is sooooo dry i'm afraid of a frizz meltdown.
