If you could choose your natural color....
Jul 7th, 2007 at 3:00am

If you could have been given the choice of what color your hair would naturally grow, what would you pick? Would you be light? Dark? Somewhere in between? Something completely unnatural?

If I could have chosen, I would have had Lily Munster-esque hair... long and black with white streaks.

I would have liked to have black hair.  My parents and brother have it along with brown eyes.  I got the brown haur with blue eyes.  I have dyed it black in the past and even got brown color contacts to see if I liked it.  I like the blue eyes with black hair better. Roll Eyes

I had that, except mine was dark brown with white streaks off my temples.  That looks distinguished on a man with short hair.  On my long hair it looked like the Bride of Frankenstein after she got caught in a rainstorm.  If I put it up I looked like Queen Amidala, and I don't mean that in a good way.  The streaks gradually widened until I had a dark stripe off my widow's peak, sort of like a reverse skunk.  Thank goodness the stripe has faded and will be gone completely in a few years.

I don't know how Lily did it.  On her it looked good.  Maybe because her hair was black, and her streaks weren't off her temples.

Anyway, my choice would be deep auburn.  I've always wanted to be a creamy skinned, curly haired, green-eyed redhead instead of an olive-skinned, straight haired, hazel eyed brunette.

If I could have any color I wanted, I would go for hair the color of Holly Marie Combs (which is a similar color to you Lisabella).  I have always loved that nice rich brown hair, but alas, my skin is so pale being blonde, that I would look like a ghost if I did that.  My siblings are (sorry, were) both that lovely brown.

Black hair and blue eyes.  That is a striking combination.  Makes me think of some Irish people.  Now my thoughts float to Pierce Brosnan (yum) even if he is a dark brown, not black. Ya, I know, he has short hair...but yum.  Yum...ok enough of that.

On the note of black hair...and very far removed from Pierce...my dad had black hair.  I have only seen hair like his on a couple of people in my life.  It was soooo black and soooo shiney that when the light caught it, it had a blue glint to it.  I don't mean like the blue people color their hair these days...I mean...moonlight blue if you know what I mean.

My mother and my father both have beatiful white hair now.  Sadly, mine is a steel grey under the color job.  My siblings have the steel color too.  My hairdresser tells me that as I age, mine will probably go that beautiful white too.  I hope so....but am in no rush to find out!!

well, I'm a natural dark brown myself... with blue-green-grey-ocean-in-a-storm eyes. It's annoying because nobody believes me when I tell them I'm roughly 75% irish. "but... aren't irish people redheaded?"

I've always loved the blue eyes black hair too, but my eyes weren't blue enough to pull it off.. I looked like I'd gone greyscale.

If I could have been born with any colour hair in the world...I'd choose black, of course!!
I have coveted long, lush raven waves from a very early age. I suppose straight black hair would be ok too, but I might like a little wave in there to keep things interesting.

Alas, I was born with...well now, this is funny. I was actually born with very dark brown (almost black) hair like my father's. But within the first year of my life, it faded to the light, fawnish brown that it is today. My mother said that it's very common for babies' hair colour to lighten up quickly like that. But oh, I would've been so much happier if I could have retained the colour that I was born with!

Also, I love and covet the dark hair/pale skin/blue eyes combination. I wish that was my colouring! But I have the same blue-green-gray "ocean in a storm" eye colour as Kiraela, so my eyes wouldn't "pop" under black hair.
Of course, I have dyed my hair black many times and it never looked the least bit natural with the rest of my colouring. God made me a red Celt, not a black one. Why fight it?

Well, for the first 40-odd years of life, I was a natural blond.  Then with the cancer/chemo thing, God decided I should be a natural brunette.  (He's got such an odd sense of humor!  Grin  )  But I have to say...if I could choose, I'd be a redhead.  Not a carrot top, but that lovely, rich dark shade of red.

Trisha,

I am so sorry for your trials, and I hope they never come back.  I salute your strenght to go on and survive.  I wanted to donate my hair once it was long for women who lost their hair due to chemo.  Sadly, I am not eligible...as my hair is grey and processed...

Hair basically has 4 colors in my opinion...red, brown, blonde and black...yes many different shades but only 4 colors.  I find it interesting that you have had 2 colors...yet still wish to be another...I think this exemplifies...the grass is always greener...

My hair was white blonde as a youngster then transitioned to honey blonde.  It has now darkened to a dark blonde/light brown.  I loved my hair when it was light blonde, but strawberry blonde color would also have been fantastic.

Gee I never thought of it that way!  LOL  You're right, though   Smiley  Humans tend to envy what's across the fence.  I must add that I thank God often for my hair--I don't care what color it is!   Grin

Oh, no kidding, Trish. After what you've been through, I'm sure you're just grateful to have hair at all!  Smiley

Er, no offense, Jdog, but that's a bit generic, eh? What about gray or white? Or salt and pepper, which is black, white and everything in between? Or auburn, which is brown and red together? Or dirty blonde, which often has both blonde and brunette properties? The pigments in your hair are either going to be red, gold, black or nonexistent...but the way they are arranged is unique to you.
The stronger hues are chemically and genetically predetermined, which is why the tint or colour can change over time. But no matter what your colour combination and no matter what your tone, no one else has your exact patterns. Your hair colour is as individual as your fingerprint...that makes for a veritable rainbow of coloured heads.  Grin

If I could choose my hair color,  I would like it to be a very dark brown with red shades to it.  I think perhaps my eye color wuld be emerald green.  Creamy complexion (no freckles).  There, that about sez it all  Wink.  Oh yeah I forgot I also would like to be 5'6" tall, and weigh about 145lbs.

Well Angel, as I said there are different shades of the 4 basic colors...which you have argued well for me.  Yes, there is gray, which I had not considered.  I was thinking more along the lines of the colors that exist before we lose color pigment in our hair and become gray/white (which can also be different shades).  I was not saying that we blondes are all the same shade of blonde or that we can't have some red highlights in it naturally or that you can't see a burnette who is going gray giving rise to the salt and pepper affect.  Of course everyone's hair is unique, but I still argue that there are 4 basic colors and then you have gray due to loss of pigmentation.
