Yes, it is like getting a new house!
We're getting an LG front loader.  I've always wanted a front loader for alot of reasons.  Less water used, better cleaning and this is a big one at the top of the list....no bouncing!!!!!  My sister and brother always overloaded my mother's top loader and then would walk away! Angry Roll Eyes
The machine would always jump and bounce and yours truly would have to tend to the machine.  I know I know, tell them to watch their own clothes in the machine.  They always went out.  I should have just turned off the machine!  Would teach them not to walk away while doing laundry! Wink
KNS- There really isn't any way to tell cockatiels apart.  Sometimes, depending on the color, females will have some bar striping on their feathers.  It's not a guarantee, but can give you a clue.
Usually the males are more vocal than females.  Males tend to wolf whistle.  There are females that are chatty, but the best way to tell is if she ever lays an egg!!!  The females also crouch down horizontally while on the perch.  If she needs any info. on husbandry, she can e-mail me.
As far as "learning the ropes",no.  Handfeeding babies is a "hands on" type of learning.   If done wrong, you can asperate the baby and then there's a host of problems to follow!!!

Oh, there was one piece of unsolicted advice I wanted to give you on front loaders which is a problem both my mother and I have had until we switched to liquid detergent but I don't know what the various parts are called in English.  Anyway, the traditional detergent can clogg a certain part and then you've got a lot of water coming up from the drain in the floor.  That too will happen if you don't carefully watch that all sand and toys are out of the clothes. Roll Eyes  Hub's made the mistake of overfilling with clothes and extra water.  That was a bit naive of him...

Yup. What Drear said, you need to get specific HE detergent for front loaders. Actually, in the US, if you can manage it, I'd recommend you get the high efficiency powder based detergent. The liquid ones tend to have organic stuff in them which can cause the washer to get moldy smelling.
We don't have any available around where we are, so occasionally I will have the washer do an empty rinse cycle with vinegar to combat the mustiness.

But all in all, I love front loaders. They're so much more efficient, quiet, fast, and they're much gentler on clothes.

Thanks for the info offer! I will let my sister know. <3

Thanks,ladies!
Yes, I've been reading the manual and it talks about HE detergent.  They gave a sample of Tide.  I'm algergic to Tide, but they have a formula for sensitive skin so I'll try that.  I've told hubby to use only HE detergent.  I'm hoping he'll listen. Roll Eyes
The washer doesn't fill with water so there's a problem.  This happens when men don't listen to women.  Hub asked his friend to do the plumbing.  He's not a licensed plumber.  I have and use a licensed plumber.  But,nooooooooooooo hubby wanted to handle this.  So now the machine doesn't fill with water and the repair people are coming on Mon. Angry  Hub wanted to move the machine and check the hoses, but I said no because if it's the way it was iinstalled, then it is under the waranty.  You touch it,the waranty is null and void.
So I'm waiting...........................

Does any water come in?
HE washers usually only fill the very bottom of the drum with water.
Hope you figure out the problem!

One of the reasons I wanted a front loader wa that it used less water.  There's no water in the drum at all.  There's water in the hoses(both hot and cold).  I opened the drain part and let the water out of the hose too.  Either it was installed wrong or the so called plumbing job is wrong Angry
The repair people were supposed to come between 4:30-6:30lm.  They showed up at 3:30 and I wasn't dressed so I went into the bird/sewing room with the dog.  Hubby was expediting the job.  They told him it worked.  Yes,the machine turns on,but water doesn't come into the drum.  Not only did they not test it properly, they took the bolts and the wrench that comes with the machine!!!  Thieves!  In this case I was glad that hubby didn't have cash on him to tip them.
So now someone or two guys will come on Monday and I'll be here to see things get done right Cool!
Strange as it sounds, I can't wait to start washing clothes!!! Grin

This would be funny under different circumstances.

I hope things will be fine on Monday then.

I wish I felt the same way.  I'm procrastinating today, it's Sunday after all.

Yesp,it's Sunday!  SuperBowl Sunday!
A repair person came on Sunday instead of Monday.  Although the machine worked afor alittle while...it showed a msg on the LCD screen and stopped.  So with all the stress and hubby being on the phone, BestBuy wants him to pay again for delivery and go to the store to do it!!  Ladies, if you have a BestBuy nearyou,Don't do business with them!!!!  The worse Customer service ever!!!!  If I had my way,the machine would be picked up by them,I'd have a full refund and never do business with them again!!!!
Sunday should be a day of rest!  what was I thinking when I wanted to do laundry!!! Roll Eyes

Man oh man are we getting hammered with snow!  It's expected we get about 18-20 inches! Shocked  We haven't gotten snow like this since I don't know when.  It is pretty though..........however long it will stay white here in the city! Roll Eyes  That's one of the things that I miss about living in the country.  Snow stays white far longer there than here!

So there's what it seems like tons of snow outside............I really wonder how long it will be before I see the street and sidewalk. Roll Eyes
In preparation for something like this happening, I bought on E-bay a few new craft kits.  I haven't done rug hooking since I was 14 so I bought another kit.  A butterfly to try.  A few cross stitch kits to try.  Also an embroidery kit for beginners to try.  My timing is off on this because the mailman, I guess, can't get through the snow with his cart!! Huh
So I'm crocheting a granny square hat with the tons of yarn I've got.  If it turns out well I'll put it up on Etsy for sale.  The one I made yesterday came out too small for an adult. Sad Angry  hat's what I get for following the pattern!!
Still no babies from the eggs.  I can't wait to take down the nest box and scrub the whole cage clean!!  My oldest has been in his cage too long, so at least when things are back to normal he can come out. Cool
Hubby is outside shoveling and then off to the store. He wants my special vegan muffins again.  So I'll be baking this afternoon.  So much for relaxing and crocheting!!!!

How frustrating--after all that, I hope you finally ended up with a working washer and dryer.   Sad

You and me both!  The dryer will come hopefully in April or May,depending on the car show that hubby will be setting up.

The new washer is in and working!!!!  Hooray!!!!!!! Ahem, women shouldn't get so excited about appliances! Embarrassed  If you do, don't let any males see you, they'll get ideas about you loving to do housework! Shocked
Hubby did some blankets as they came out wonderful. Now I can put them in a Space Saver bag and get them out of the way.
Lots of ice and snow here..........wonder when it'll warm up and melt some Undecided.
Still no baby birds. Sad  I'm pretty sure they're all duds. The nest box will come down next week and I can get back to my sewing!!!
I've been watching a tutorial on knitting and teaching myself to cast on and knit.  The next step is to purl and cast off.  I figure I can get rid of alot of yarn by crocheting and knitting hats, scarves and fingerless gloves.
The only kit that made it so far via USPS is the latch hook kit. I am hopeful the cross stitch kits will come today.  I'm still working on a bigger granny square hat that should be done in a few days.
Maybe I can even get in a henna and indigo job if hubby brings me some orange juice to mix with the henna! Roll Eyes
