The discussion of heavy metal music in my introduction inspired me to start this thread about music.  I thought about starting just a heavy metal thread (which I could still do) but I know not all people are into heavy metal like I am.

So, feel free to talk about any types of music you might like or maybe there is a kind of music you might have wondered about but never listened to yet.

I'm not really sure what genre these groups fit into, but I like some songs from Alice Cooper, Meat Loaf, Lordi, and The Darkness. I also like listening to musicals, Celtic, oldies, Japanese rock, and moody eastern Europeanish music--has anyone heard "East Meets West" from Nigel Kennedy and Kroke? Kind of like that. I like other forms of music as well, but the ones I listed are the main ones.

I think my two favorite groups are Red Hot Chili Peppers and Gaelic Storm. I'd listen to practically anything by them. Oh, and I also like Lorena McKennitt rather a lot.

Interesting..... I don't think I know 2 other people IRL who have even heard of Loreena McKennitt, let alone listen to her!  I love her music.  I also like Susanne Vega, Pink Floyd, Eric Clapton, the Beatles, the Doors......  I guess my tastes are a bit varied. 

Renchick: If you're open to some indy sorts of things, where you'd have to buy the music directly from the artist... and you don't have a problem with myspace(i know a bunch of people who think it's the devil) I can list off a couple you might like. HEH. actually it'd be easier to give you a link to my myspace friends list... it's almost all bands, and almost everything that isn't harp, is female fronted metal/rock..

and yes Inkubus Sukkubus, switchblade symphony, sisters of mercy, etc are all "goth" bands. (and yes, I have at least two cds of each band mentioned... )

Okay, I admit it.. I'm rather eclectic too...

Lets see now...I like a whole bunch of stuff.  Clasical, hard rock, opera, country (old country) almost everything! I was brought up on Led Zep, Queen, Kiss, AC/DC, The Who, Pink Floyd, stuff like that.

I did check out these groups on Amazon.  Unfortunately, Echoes of Eternity did not have any previews available that I could find.  Otep I did find some for, you're right they are on the heavy side, but I did like them.  I couldn't find any previews for In This Moment either.    Now, Nightwish I did like!  Some of it reminded me of the elements I really like in the Metallica S&M album.

Thanks so much for the suggestions Galadriel.  I found your list and will definitely follow it.  I also checked out a couple of the other bands you mentioned, and they sound like ones I will enjoy as well.  I already have a couple of albums by Rammstein that I enjoy listening to.

You mentioned the more peaceful music.  Have you heard any music by Magna Canta or Enigma?  They have sounds very similar to the two you mentioned and I quite enjoy them.

Is there someplace to check out the music by the last two you mentoned - Viikate and Pohjannaula?  I tried finding them on Amazon but no luck.  I'll try searching a little harder tonight with Google and such, but I'll accept any help!

And after hearing some samples of BWO, I think I'll add them to my shopping list.  

I join the Loreena McKennitt-fans, she's amazing! The first song I heard with her, the Bonny Swans, made me go  , lol. I also listen a lot to Enya, Queen and different soundtracks that gets stuck in my head like Corpse Bride etc.   Buuut right now, I'm listening to Joan Baez "Sweet Sir Galahad", trust me to like a song with a title that involves a knight.  

RenChick I have one album from Enigma, but I haven't heard of Magna Charta. I'll check it out!

Viikate and Pohjannaula will probably be very difficult to find. They are small Finnish bands that make their music in Finnish and I don't think they are in international distribution at all. I'd be happy to send you some samples though- PM if you are interested.

Right now I'm listening to NW's newest, Dark Passion Play. I think it will be released in US tomorrow (something like that).

When I am not in a metal mood (which is not very often) I do like mellow music such as Barry Manilow and Tom Jones.

Well, I bought my first Frank Sinatra CD yesterday called Sinatra Reprise:  The Very Good Years.  I am listening to it right now.

My favorite of his is Theme From New York, New York  I also like Luck Be A Lady, The Best Is yet To Come, Love And Marriage (most people who watched the tv show Married...With Children know this song), I've Got You Under My Skin, Strangers In The Night and My Way

Not only do I like his singing but the music is pretty good also

And, I did not know this until recently but Jim Morrison from The Doors said his idol was Frank Sinatra and he actually wanted to sing like him and he was inspired by crooners such as Frank Sinatra

I am listening to Zombie Live right now  I have liked them/him ever since I saw the video on the original MTV Headbangers Ball for Thunder Kiss '65.
Rob Zombie has been to our state twice now but we did not really have the money both times to go see him

I like a lot of Christan music but I have not heard of Red?  How many CD's do they have?  I will check them out on the internet sometime later.

Out of curiousity, how big is your collection?  Mine is pretty big but probably not as big as some people have

As of yesterday I am up to 2,132 CD's but I count a 2 CD or 3 or more CD boxset as more than 1 CD like some people might.

I have been collecting them since the early 90's when I got sick of my cassettee tapes getting stretched  and always having to clean the heads and stuff on the player (even though CD players should be cleaned also).

My very first CD was Amy Grant: The Collection and I did not even have a player to listen to it  I got it by accident because I ordered it through a music club and they sent the CD instead of a cassettee

Anyway, some people are surprised when I tell them I alphabetize my CD's and I just tell them I do that because then I can find a particular CD I am in the mood for


That is interesting about Rob Zombie  I actually like useless knowledge like that
