ACV questions
Oct 3rd, 2007 at 2:31pm

Hey all,

So I tried my first acv rinse thingy last night... and have a question.

I don't know, maybe I put too much vinigar in the mix... but how do you get the vinigar smell out of your hair? I rinsed it all out of my hair, but my hair still smells like it.

But, despite the smell of vinigar, my hair really does feel nice and soft.

Oh! Is it normal to shed hair lots? I don't think they are broken hairs because they are the same length has my hair, but I seem to shed alot of hair.

Cheers!

Usually the smell goes away as your hair dries.  Maybe next time try less vinegar.

Shedding can be seasonal, hormonal or from other factors.  I think the average is 25-50 hairs a day.

I minimize shedding when I wash by brushing out my hair before I get it wet.

Oooookay Smiley kewl, so the amount I lose really isn't that bad (since I lose it all at once when I take my hair down from its normal 'up in a bun-type twisty thing') sweet.

And I will definately try less vinigar next time lol

Cheers!

Fall is my shedding season.  I have no idea why.  You would think it would be spring, but fall is when I feel like I'm losing all my hair.  Combing or brushing your hair before shampooing will help minimize the amount of hair lost during your shampoo (and will also help keep your drain in better shape!).  You will probably also find that the longer you keep your hair in a style that you do not comb or brush, the more hair you will lose when you do finally comb or brush your hair.  I comb my hair in the morning, put it up in a bun for the day, then don't comb it out again until I either shower in the evening or get ready for bed.  This means I comb my hair TWICE a day.

Kewl Smiley
It's spring here, so maybe it's the change in weather making me drop hair LOL

What type of combs do you recommend? I tried a wide-toothed plasticy one, but I found it seemed to end up with tons of hair in it by the time I was done.  I don't know if you can get bone combs where I am, but what should I look for in one if I do find some?

To eliminate the vinegar smell, I just wash my hair a 2nd time with my clarifying shampoo. Also helps my hair feel more slick and less stripped.

I can sympathize with your shedding - I seem to be doing that a lot these days as well. No idea why! Maybe it's some sort of natural cycle or something. Old hair follicles shutting down, new ones waking up, etc. Just a guess.

As for combs, whatever you choose, be sure that it's seamless! I have about 7 seamless combs made of either acrylic or cellulose.

I prefer horn or wood for my combs.  Neither promote static electricity in the hair, which can be significant during the winter months.  My horn combs are from Hevenly Harvest.  My wood combs are hand made by Ric.
