aloe vera gel
Dec 1st, 2007 at 5:32pm

I'm interested in using aloe vera gel as a styling product in place of regular gels and mousses...i went to the health food store and all they had was aloe vera GELLY but none of it was 100%, it all had added alcohol and -cones....they also had aloe vera juice and gel to use as a dietary supplement but i felt weird using that on my head...where do u guys buy your aloe vera gel? any recommendations? my grandma has aloe vera plants, should i just use that?

Ashamed as I am to admit it, I find my Fruit Of The Earth aloe gel at Wal*Mart.  Tongue

As much as I hate, hate, HATE Wal*Mart, I do have to go there every once in awhile for certain things, so sometimes I'll just pick up a bottle of aloe gel while I'm there if I need one. HTH

The aloe vera plant doen't work for gel like consistency.  As soon as you snip off a piece and squeeze the leaf you get a gel like substance, but within a short amount of time it turns to liquid.  You can make your own,but why when you can buy it 100% at a health food store or Wal-Mart(yikes!!)

I use Fruit of the Earth Aloe Vera gel.  I usually pick it up at Target or Ulta.  It works great as a styling aid.

Do any of you use it as a leave-in conditioner?  Does it work for that?

I have tried using aloe gel as a leave-in and it made my hair super crusty and impossible to brush through. It works much better as a hair gel.

I've used my alow vera gel to help "set" my braids.  I rub some gel on my hands/fingers and then braid by hair.  The gel is worked thru the hair and helps keep the fly-aways to a minimum.  When I take the braids out, I finger comb my hair and have wonderful waves.
