Hello, I'm a 60 yr old woman who has always worn my hair one way only-- long and with bangs.  Guess it's a holdover from my hippie days, but i've been fine with it.

this summer I started losing my hair!  Don't know when and if it's going to stop and I'm very sad about it, but I'm exploring medical reasons and what will be will be, I guess.

My daughter is getting married this summer and I've already been told about her expectations for my appearance (which also tends to be old hippie).  I'll do the very best I can to meet her expectations BUT she is saying she wants me to go to a hairdresser for a fancy do.  I'm really afraid to have anyone messing with my hair-- the slightest tug and it comes out-- but I also can't seem to find any styles online.  Maybe something with braids?

My question is, am I going to be able to find something suitable at a hairdresser? Will it add to the damage to my hair?(All my experiences with hairdressers thru my life have been nightmares, so I know I'm paranoid).

I'm very sad and discouraged about all of this.  Am I going to be able to meet my daughter's expectations without losing even MORE of my hair?

Suggestions very much appreciated.

A bun with pretty hairsticks is always a nice option.  (That's how I wore my hair for my son's wedding.)  A french braid might also be an option.  I agree with you and everyone else that a hair salon most likely will not know how to handle your hair and may cause significant damage or hair loss.
