While new age and ambient are sometimes synonymous, new age is a bigger genre and can encompass more styles.

Yeah, that was sort of my thought.

Quote:
The best way I can think to define ambient music is background noise. Something you would put on to hear, but not necessarily listen to. It kind of complements a scenario or environment rather than defining it...if that makes sense.

That makes total sense, thanks for clearing that up. Smiley  I put on ambient and new age music mainly as background music and am usually doing something else when it's on.  Although, I am aware of it, so of course there are songs that I prefer and dislike amongst the genres.  For me it's not always just background "noise" so to speak.

Monday 22 September 2008

Happy first day of Autumn!!

Hair:
CWC this morning; hair is parted in the middle and left loose.

Other:
Hubby left yesterday at noon for Columbia with a masonic brother, to attend Grand Lodge happenings today and tomorrow.  They should be home tomorrow evening/night.  So hubby was gone, brother in law was gone, stepson was gone...  You wanna talk about a quiet house?!!   Shocked  I took advantage of having the place to myself and shaved my legs!   Grin  This wasn't one of my quickie from-the-knees-down specials, oh no.  This was a full blown, in the tub, girly shaving creme, fresh razors for each leg thing!

Hair:
CWC again this morning.  Yes, two days in a row.  *shrug*   Huh  Also parted hair down the middle again.  Yes, two days in a row.  *shrug*   Huh

Other:
A few of you know that my tastes in life lean toward the not-so-normal.   Wink  I find comfort in graveyards.  I wish Hallowe'en was a national holiday.  I adore dark, eerie music, old Victorian houses--the spooky, the spidery, the abnormal.  More than once, my friends have declared me "weird".  I accept that as a high compliment.   Cool  Where is this leading, you ask?  To this point...  I found this definition online and I must admit, had a lightbulb moment.

"Oh dear oh dear. People aren’t really still clinging to the false notions that Goths can never be cheerful, or never wear pink? Good heavens, the Lady of the Manners thought those cliches were put to rest ages ago! Yes, Goths can, and frequently are, very happy and cheerful. Goth is about appreciating the off-kilter, the darkly humorous, the (as the sainted Lydia from Beetlejuice said) “strange and unusual”. Goth is not about maintaining a seamless facade of woe and gloom, and never has been. Goth is more about embracing a dark and decadent aesthetic while simultaneously being able to laugh at oneself for sitting around wearing black velvet and reading Dracula by candlelight."
the Lady of Manners, Gothic Charm School

All that being said, I hereby declare myself out of the closet and into the wonderful shadows as a Goth.   Smiley

Ahh, the Lady of the Manners. Jillian has long been my favorite standby for goth etiquette. Such a great lady.  Smiley

Being "weird" does not a goth person make. That being said, you're the only person who can decide whether or not you identify with/belong to the goth community...and I am not going to be the kind of goth who looks down their nose at newbies.  Wink  I am not going to tell you "no, actually, you're not goth, sweetie," because that's 1.) just rude, and 2.) not my call to make. I am not going to challenge you with obscure goth band trivia or expect you to know every minor detail of the movement's formation. Nay, my dear, I am not going to be one of those types of goths.  Grin

Instead, I'm going to give you a great big *hug* and a warm welcome...and then creep into a dark corner to rub my hands together with a menacing smile and mutter to myself, "We are indeed taking over."  Grin

Yeah. In any case, dahling, feel free to come to me with any questions you may have. I can't promise that I'll have all the answers, but I can at least point you in the right direction if I don't.  Wink  And be careful out there, hon. There's a lot of hate in the world for creatures like us and I don't want to see someone I care about get steamrolled for sympathizing with a subculture she does not yet fully understand.  Kiss

Aw, thanks dear, that means a lot, coming from you.   Kiss

To be honest, this declaration was more for my benefit than anyone or anything else.  No need to worry about ol' Trish, donning all black and dashing down the halls at work, yelling, "I'm Goth, I tell you!!"   Grin  No, I look on my Gothness much like I view religious sects.  You're a Pagan?  Fine.  Don't try to prove it by wearing a pentacle necklace and collecting corn brooms.  Christian?  Great.  No need to bash me over the head with your bible.  I say just live your life in such a manner as to serve as the finest example of whatever you claim to be.   --Exactly as you do, Angel my love.

Remember kiddies, shouting about something does not make you right!  Cool

Quite true, Trish.

And although I certainly couldn't claim to "serve as the finest example" of anything (at times, it's more like hacking my way through it and trying not to screw it up too badly), I am terribly flattered if this is the impression that I've given you.  Wink

Naturally, it matters not what you are. Goth or just "darkly inclined." Christian or Pagan. Trisha is Trisha...and she needs not prove a thing.  Cool

Thursday 25 September 2008
Hair:
No-wash day; hair still parted down the middle, sides held back with combs, length in a ponytail.

Other:
Since hubby will be master of the lodge this next year (beginning in October), he needed to have a professional photograph taken to hang in the masonic temple.  They have what I call a wall of fame, where all of the former masters' portraits hang.  Yesterday he went to Wally World's photo studio to have the deed done and I went along.  We decided to have a photo of the two of us taken as well, since he and I have never had a professional photo taken.  Never in almost 23 years!  Isn't that terrible?!   Roll Eyes  The "pitchers" won't be ready for pick up until October 3 and I'm eager to have them.  We took a really great shot, if I do say so myself!  If I can get them scanned, etc., I'll post it here for y'all to see.

Ooh, that is a nice jacket! Cheesy

My sister says "pitchers". Roll Eyes  That is such a pet peeve of mine. Grin

I hope you're able to get your pictures scanned! Smiley

My husband and I have never gotten a professional picture taken. Shocked  He's always been too concerned about his weight to have them done.  I never understood it but, now that I'm in my 30's myself, I can somewhat sympothize.
