My work
Feb 15th, 2008 at 8:21pm

We got some very interesting news Thursday morning in our e-mails at work.

We are going to be moving into another building Shocked

There have been talk and rumors about it but it was confirmed that it is not a rumor.

We had a meeting with our department director today and he gave us all the information and answered questions people had.

Nothing is set in stone yet but when we do move it is going to happen some time in October of this year.

The main reason for the move is because we need more space and where we work now is on the third floor of a four floor building.  The building we are moving into is two floors with a basement.  We are going to use the first floor and the basement to keep all of our papers and files in.

It is in our downtown which is not very far from where my wife and I live but the only downside of that is that the hill is pretty steep coming home but like I tell people I can use the exercise (I usually walk to work to save on gas and get exercise).

I hate moving but I am glad they finally decided on moving somewhere and the extra space we need will be nice.

That's awesome that you can walk to work, Jerry, and good on 'ya for getting in your excercise.

Yeah, change isn't fun but it sounds like this will be a change for the good.

Thank you Wink

I used to ride my bicycle to work but I just decided to start walking and now I have been doing that for a while now.

I also take a walk for my morning break and I also take the stairs instead on an elevator but when we move into the new building I won't be able to take any stairs.

I don't exercise as much as I should but I am not a couch potato Roll Eyes

When the snow and ice are gone I will probably start riding the bicycle more instead of driving to places when I don't have a lot to carry.

I take the stairs rather than the elevator but for a different reason. I have this 'thing' about tight closed in spaces full of people. I avoid them.

I wish I lived close enough to ride a bike safely to work. I'm 15 miles out and with I-64 closed for two years and all the cars on the few through streets, it basically suicide, that is,  if I had a useable bike I could trust do do 30 miles a day.

My dog now has bone cancer and isn't expected to live long. My excercise routine was 4 miles with my dog. I can't bring myself to walk without my dog who can no longer do a quarter mile.

When I was a kid I hated large crowds of people where they were close together and I pretty much grew out of it.  But then I was very, very shy too.

Are you ok in elevators with a few people or is it just the packed in feeling when too many people are in it?

I suppose if I lived in a really big city like New York or L.A. I would probably take the elevator if I had to go up ten or more stories.

The tallest buidling in our town has about six stories and the tallest building in our state is twenty-six stories high.

But, unless I am carrying something heavy and/or bulky I will always take the stairs.

I'm sorry to hear about your dog's illness.  I hope he/she is painfree.

No, it doesn't matter if I'm the only one in the elevator, I don't like them. I also never grew out of the "too many people" phase. If I have to wait for a table at a crowded place on a Sat. night, I will always wait outside, even it it's -5 degrees.

Our tallest building as far as I know is still 43 stories. My father designed the steel structure for it. I don't go downtown. Too many people in too small an area, thus never been in the taller biuldings.

Sakina: I have pain pills for the dog. She doesn't seem to be in any pain. She seems to have learned to get around not using the bad leg.

We found out that we are not moving until the end of January 2009 Roll Eyes  I had a feeling the move would be later because it never fails that management says one thing and another thing happens Tongue
So, I am not going to hold my breath for January so I just tell people at work I will believe it when I see it Undecided

We had a group meeting Friday and found out the delay is from building permits (AKA - red tape) Roll Eyes

But, I still have this weird feeling there might be something else to delay the move once again but I hope not Tongue

I still have mixed emotions about moving but I think in the end it will be best for everybody I hope Undecided

I understand the frustration, Jerry.  My company's lease is up August 1st.  We want to downsize our space and have been trying to work with the building management to either reduce our current space, or move in to other space in the same building or a nearby building that they own.  They have given us nothing but run-around.  So we started looking at other buildings in the area.  There is another building, identical to the building we are in now, just owned by someone else, and it is just 200 yards to the west.  They are willing to work with us.  We started the process for developing the plans for the new space, when WHOA! the current management suddenly wants to work with us!  (They saw the writing on the walls that we intended to move out.)  We have less than 3 weeks before our lease is up and we STILL do not know where we will be!  It seems everyday there is a different option.

I  figure on August 1, we will be working from home and the servers will be in the president's basement!!   Grin

We are going thru the same thing, only they are moving my division 1500 miles east and I wasn't invited to the party. A lease problem and unwillingness of a landlord to re-configure a smaller space was one of the cited reasons.

See, "Engagement is off and other crushing blows".
