bangs and overall length
Feb 18th, 2008 at 2:16pm

Hi all,
I started another thread about wondering if my 27" is my terminal length.  I am curious about another thing though.  I cut bangs about one and one half years ago and although they are growing well, my length has stopped growing.  I've seen plenty of people with bangs or fringes with super long hair so I don't think this affects very many people, but I am beginning to wonder about my own.  My hair was BSL when I cut my bangs and now it is over half as long as my length.  Just curious if anyone else has experienced this. Sad
TIA,
strawberryfine

strange for sure, my story is last May i started growing my fringe out, my sides where just touching shoulders (fringe eyebrow level then)and there was an obvious difference in length with sides and fringe, now there is an inch difference between my fringe and sides, surely my sides should still have the same difference? its not as if ive touched the sides. only yesterday i was talking to my daughter about this and the only thing i can think of is  George michael's theory that our bodies try and equal up, i will try and get the link.

Other than that, i will see what happens in my case when the fringe catches up, but your length will grow, i did have waist length hair and a fringe.

Hope somebody has some input for us both on this, it sure confuses me too xx

ETA-are you noticing your fringe is growing? like faster than the length?

I have had bangs since I was a little girl.I like them a lot but it would be fun if I could get them to stay in my ponytail. Wink

Wow, do we ever have a similar story!  It was also about a year and a half for me since I've had bangs cut into my hair (I'll have to check my journal on that one), my hair was also at BSL, and I also feel that I've reached my terminal length at 27".  I think once I reached 27.5", but no matter how I try and try, it just seems that I'm stuck at this bloody 27" mark!

As for my bangs, or fringe as Joanna calls it  Wink, they just grow like crazy.  And in response to Joanna's comment, yes it seems as though they grow way quicker than the length of my hair.  I suppose it's because they've got a ways to go before slowing down and halting at my dreaded 27".  I am, however, in the process of growing my bangs out....for now....until I change my mind and hack them back up again.  Roll Eyes  They are currently just past the tip of my nose and going strong.

So just know that you are not alone in this struggle, Strawberryfine!!

I've been growing my bangs out now for almost 2 years.  They have never gotten much past my chin, which is a pain since they won't stay in anything but I high hairdo.

I guess they aren't going to get any longer.  The back is past waist now.

I've always noticed how my bangs/fringe grows much faster than the rest of my hair and I've decided to stop fighting this now and just accept that I can't be bothered to wait forever at a salon to have my bangs trimmed between regular trims.  I've kept mine rediculously short because they grow faster than the rest of my hair and end up in my eyes within two weeks if they're just cut at brow length.  Now they're asymmetrical so getting that sideswept length is my next goal.

Many thanks to everyone who posted!  I am encouraged by your responses!  I am beginning to believe in the George Michael theory of hair evening out, at least for my hair.  The bangs are definately growing but the length has finally reached 28" after about five or six months.  I hope that I am just going through a slow growing phase.  It is the first one in four years since I began growing my hair out.  I did a 6" chop a couple of years ago so I'm hoping that my terminal length is at least 6" longer than it is now.  That would really make me happy!  Thanks again for sharing your stories with me about similar experiences.  We are all here to help one another and you really all came through for me.  Thank you sincerely.
