Angel Spun is our resident goth.  I do love black and dark red together.  Personally, I'd go with a different jacket, a black one with texture like velvet or brochade.  Then I'd put a peplum in the back.  Something like this: http://www.victoriantradingco.com/store/catalogimages/1a/i7083.html

One of 2, actually. You can't forget about Flaming Bunny - my goth sistah in the UK.  Wink

Anywho, I can't personally say that I would wear that outfit firstly because I never wear short skirts. Secondly, aside from the accessories, there isn't anything specifically gothic about it. Colors alone do not make something goth. Browsing a few gothic fashion sites might help you get an idea of the type of things that appeal to goths. And no, Hot Topic isn't one of them.  Tongue
Thirdly, a general rule of fashion is to avoid looking "too matchy" (ie. the trim on the jacket & skirt and the fact that the cami just happens to exactly match the cuffs on the jacket). Being coordinated too precisely rarely works on anyone over the age of 6. A wild skirt like that one would certainly benefit more being coordinated with simple, solid pieces.
Lastly, the little nitpicky details.  Grin  You will almost never see a goth sporting a cami with a short skirt. T-shirts, yes. Camis, no. A skirt like that would be complemented by a fitted cap sleeve top, for example. The jacket would work better with a gray tank and low rise jeans. Early pardons if my colors are off - my screen is next to impossible to see at the moment.  Undecided

Otherwise, it is a cute drawing. Keep up the good work, Rodent.  Smiley

I would definately wear that! But I'm not exactly what you'd call 'goth', so on that point you'd want to listen to Angel Spun.

but that outfit is incredibly lovely!! At first I thought they were boots, which looked cool. But then I looked closer and realized they were stockings...which honestly is just as good! I lvoe red and black combo so that's probabaly the main attraction.

This outfit looks like something that I would've been open to wearing when I was in my early 20's.  The only modifications that I would make would be removing the studs or dots from the skirt, making the skirt a few inches shorter and cropping the jacket a bit.

But...I'm not a goth.

Case rested.  Wink

Goths don't wear cropped jackets. Too trendy.
The studs are actually a nice touch, but the skirt style is all wrong.
Again, too trendy. Goths don't do trendy.  Grin

My previous post sounded hostile and defensive and that wasn't my intention.  Sometimes it's just difficult to get something across without it turning into a lengthy essay which no one is going to bother to read.

So I'm going to shorten my post down to; If you feel for it, wear it.  Generally, most goths don't notice or don't care about trend so if they like something, they'll wear it regardless of whether it's trendy or not.  Some goths may even stock up on something while it's trendy, even if it's from a major chain, because they'll want to wear it even when it's no longer trendy.

Drear, sweetie, as a matter of fact, we do notice fashion trends. And you're right - for the most part, we don't care.  Wink

But, if you show up to a club looking like Beverly Hills Barbie, you may expect to be laughed out of it. Not saying that we won't stock up on something that we find appealing in a major chain - of course we do! But there is a general attitude and ęsthetic that makes a goth a goth. And overly-matched dark colors aren't where it's at. That's all I'm sayin'.  Wink

I think the outfit is cute, but I have to agree that it's not gothic.

Oh you're right.  Come to think of it, many goths seem more pre-occupied with trends (so that they can avoid them) than your average none-goth person which I find a bit sad but each to their own.

You're also right in that it's not in any color or color combination itself.  I got on the topic of self proclaimed goth fashion police and sort of lost the plot in my original post which turned into a pretty nasty rant Embarrassed so I edited and simplified my post.

Reading over my original post I can see I also deleted things I didn't mean to delete.  That's what happens when I overly focus on parts of my posts that can be misunderstood.

Ah, thus why it had many comments but was deemed by the judges in the bottom 10% of said competition. It's still the most viewed of my designs.
