TT - I can only imagine how you felt thru all that.  But you are right - there are times you just have to take a deep breath and tell yourself, what happens, will happen and you will get thru it somehow.  I've done minimal international travel - Canada and the Bahama's and I don't really consider that true international travel.  But I have my war stories for both of those countries too!  (Think drug smuggling.)

OMG!  I cannot even imagine.  The desk attendant in Riyadh said the other piece of excitment that night was a man with a bottle of scotch.  Totally illegal in an islamic country.  Interesting thing was he was trying to get it OUT, which begs the question how it got IN.  But they had signs all over the airport saying that drug smuggling was punishable by death.  Ulp!

At least drug smuggling into the Bahamas or Canada does not warrant the death penalty - just major inconveniences and horrible jail time.  Just to make it clear - I WAS NOT smuggling drugs.  However, I was suspected of the action - had my belongings torn apart (clothing and bags ruined), strip searched, and other humiliating experiences.

My husband refuses to travel by air with me........ I wonder why?  Roll Eyes   Grin

OMG, BB!  How awful!  I can't imagine how they suspected you, you must look really American and innocent.  There's a show on BBC America called Locked Up Abroad.  Its true stories of people who get talked into smuggling drugs and get caught.  It is interesting to watch from the comfort and safety of my couch, and pretty terrifying to imagine being in that situation.

I watched that yesterday! Except it's on the National Geographic Channel for me. Have you seen the movie Brokendown Palace? It's about two American girls that get caught smuggling drugs, I forget where, but it is based on true story.

I have no idea why I was suspected - other than I had no checked baggage - just my carryon.  Canada, at least acts like a civilized country.  The Bahamas, however, is a very corrupt country - if I had not been there to do work for a member of the Parliment, I'm not sure what would have happened.  I know money exchanged hands to get me released.  Tongue
