This is how I wore my hair yesterday:
...

This is how I wore my hair today:
...

Here's my version of the 1/2 up bun/braid:
...
I took too much hair for the braid, so instead of squishing the bun, I hung the braid across the bottom.  Although its not the same as the full bun w/braid, I think it looks cool.  I also think it needs some decoration, but I left it off to show the basic design.  I think it is best when doing the bun part to pin at the top of the bun before finishing the rest.  I think this gives the bun the best shape before wrapping and pinning the accent braid, regardless of where the braid goes (all the way around the bun or hanging from the bottom).  Please pardon my waves, I had my hair up in the bun in the above pic all day and then I combed it out before I decided to play with this style.

Those are all pretty!  And I have to ask, how in the heck did you do the first one? Grin  It looks kind of complicated. Huh

I really need to try that half up one again

Thank you, La Diosa!

The style in the second pic is so not complicated!!!

Instructions for pic #1

Divide your hair into a 1/2 up, taking the hair all the way across your head.

Take a hairfriendly elastic and place it loosly down the hair so the pony will not be tight to your head.  On my head, I like the elastic to line up with the top of my ears.

Take the hair above the elastic, divide it in half vertically and flip the pony up and through the space you've created and pull the tail down through.

Take a small section of hair from the underside of the pony-not the loose hair but from the pony itself and gently hold it out to the side.

Stick one finger under one of the elastic loops and keep it there.

Wrap the small section around the pony to cover the elastic. In this pic my hair wrapped around 3 times with some tail left over.

Take the tail and slip it through the part of the elastic you've got your finger under, making sure that you put it through from the underneath side and the tail in pointing down like your ponytail is.

Remove your finger and adjust the hair covering the elastic so it is spread evenly and it is actually hiding the elastic.

I hope this makes sense!!!  If not, please ask for clarification!

Good Luck, and for sure try the 1/2 up bun w/braid!!!  Let me know how it turns out!!!

Thanks for the explanation, but it was actually the first one that I'm trying to figure out.  It looks like you used a Topsy Tail (I think that's what it's called) or something.  Although, now I'm guessing that you twisted the two strands and wrapped and pinned a third strand around them. Huh

If when I can ever do the 3rd one successfully, I'll post a pic. Wink

Thank you, Angel Spun.

Instructions for pic #2:

Divide hair front from back.  I started at the crown and went down to just behind the ear on each side.  Get this hair out of the way.  I took the hair in the back and pulled it up into a pony tail and secured w/a hf elastic.  Braid the ponytail and secure the end w/a child's size hf elastic.
Holding the braid out away from your head, twist it like you would your hair for a regular bun.  Place the first hairpin in the top of the bun and then form the rest of the bun and pin.  Be sure to tuck the end of the braid under to hide the small elastic.
Now, take one side of the hair in front and twist it toward the back of your head, gently.  Brind the twisted hair back, under the bun and around the opposit side until you reach the end of your hair and pin securely.  Do the same on the other side.  Decorate.

Good Luck!
