'Fraid Curlgirl's right. You're not a longhair, but you're still family. Wink

Aw, thanks for the sweet compliments, gang!  It makes me so happy that y'all still accept me, even with short hair.

Of course we do!  I was actually worried that you'd decide to leave us on your own.  Some of us *looks around at no one in particular and avoids the mirror* has been a long hair on-off in the past couple of years.

Oh no, I would never leave LL voluntarily.  This is one of only a small handful of places that I consider "home".  Even though I don't grow my own hair long, I live vicariously through all of you.

Hair  is short!  *snort*  I crack me up sometimes.   Grin

Other  Today is our annual office holiday luncheon.  It's potluck and we use one of the large, empty classrooms on the 3rd floor of the building.  --At least we don't have to travel far.  Honestly?  I'd just as soon not attend, but I'm going to make an effort.  I know I won't have a super fun time, but I'm going to make an appearance and smile my a$$ off.   Wink

Heehee! I loved your hair comment. It made me smile.

Hope your luncheon went alright, and that the potluck offerings were not too abyssmal.  Smiley

There's no need to snort! Grin I think you look brilliant with your new cut.  If you end up hating your cut (most women do that from time to time) then there's no saying you have to stick with it for the rest of your life.

Wednesday 23 December 2009
Yesterday's Luncheon
The good:  Amazingly enough, it did not suck.
The bad :  I ended up with the wrong lid for my crock pot.
The ugly:  No one else has noticed that they have the wrong lid.
*sigh*
Surprisingly enough, this has not upset me.  I guess I've finally come to realize what's truly worth getting upset about and what's not.  --Especially what's not.   Wink  My husband is more upset about it than me.

Other
This is my last working day for the year and so I put in my usual disclaimer:  don't panic if you do not hear from me until January 4.   Cool  I'm trying to fight off a sinus infection, so I'm looking forward to resting and drinking hot tea (which I'm already sipping on today), and doing nothing.  Here's hoping that Santa treats you well and that 2010 is a great year for all of us.  *hugs* to you all   Kiss

That's a super important life lesson!  Good for you! Smiley

I hope your infection doesn't ruin your holidays.  Take care, and see ya in 2010!!! Smiley

Too bad about the crockpot lid! Does it at least still work with your crockpot?

And I hope your sinus infection is clearing up. When I get a sinus infection, I like to use a nice warm saline rinse with my neti pot to feel better.

Thursday 31 December 2009

I'm braving the dial-up monster to post a last entry for the 2009 journal.  I washed the mystery crock pot lid and took it back to work on the 23rd, our last day of business for the year.  --No takers.  I left it there, in case someone realizes over break that they have the wrong lid.  It's just a smidge too small for my crock pot, otherwise I'd just use it.  I did find a replacement lid at a kitchen wares store.  Technically it's not a crock pot lid, but it'll do.

I've been snotty all during break and feel as if I've been gypped hoodwinked out of my time off.  I don't ache or feel bad; it's just a pain in the caboose having to blow my nose all the time.  I know it's just a sinus issue and not a cold; probably caused by our fluctuating weather.

So.  I was in Wal Mart the other day, picking up a few items.  I was parked at the liquid hand soap area (they were out of the "flavor" we use--imagine that), when I spot a display of Sally Hansen nail polish on an end cap.  I knew I had to buy a bottle.  Keep in mind that I haven't polished my nails in 6 or 7 years...  I don't really remember exactly when the last time was, but I know it was well before cancer.  I used to take great pride in my nails; I always kept them polished.  But cancer scared me away--all those chemicals?  Too scary for me.  Yet that day, standing in front of that display, looking at all those wonderful colors, I knew it was time.  Smiley  It's Sally Hansen 'Complete Salon Manicure' with top coat, base coat and color all in one, and I love it.  I chose shade #530, Back to the Fuchsia.  It's a brilliant shade and it makes me happy; I smile every time I look at my nails.  It's only nail polish, I know--but I feel as if I've gotten something back...reclaimed a piece of myself, of the person I was before cancer.  Anyway, I love this polish.  It goes on smoothly, looks shiny (wet AND dry) and there's very little odor, which is great.  Oh, and it dries fast.  Two coats and you're done.  I'm eager to find out how long it lasts, although me sitting around doing nothing is not a good test.  Smiley  Still, this week has been a nice trial run.  I'll remove the old coat this weekend and apply a new one before returning to work on Monday.

Tomorrow, kiddies, I turn 48.  I'm proud of that number...the older I get, the prouder I become.  I will never be one of those women who hides from the aging process, who spackles out her wrinkles, who dyes her hair and tries to run away from old age.  Women should embrace maturity with every fiber of their being.  Only when we stop running and turn to face our fears can we truly overcome them.

Here's hoping 2010 brings peace, joy and contentment to us all.
