A Tale of Two Best Friends
Mar 19th, 2004 at 6:10pm

Through another long hair board I visit, I have met an interesting gentleman that is writing an e-novel about 2 teenagers during their highschool years in the 1970's.  Both happen to have long hair.  He also does the illustrations for his story.  This is an interesting story of friendship between the two girls and the typical and not so typical issues of being in high school.

I just saw this post and went right over there. I haven't had time to read the 'tale' yet but I love the drawings of the girls and their beautiful long hair. I going to go back when I have time and read the whole thing.  Smiley

I've actually come across that site before but have never read it, mostly because I find it rather creepy that one of the main characters of the story has the exact same first & middle name as I do. Shocked

Greetings:

Hi, Robin. Thanks for the plug for my novel and Anne and Autumn for the art compliments.

Cairn, I had to check your profile to see which character you refered, (fully expecting to see Kayla Christine, not that uncommon of a name).

I never expected to hear of another Kirby Ann (e)! Kirby is very uncommon name for a girl. I picked Ann for the middle name because it flowed well. Another intersting point is that my chacater lives in southern Illinois and your profile says 'Ill.'. My character has black hair (starting at slightly longer than classic length at first and ending knee length) parted down the middle. She writes and sings. She is shy at the beginning and comes around later due to Kayla.

She is a teen during this story as I see you are as well (just differrent time periods as my Kirby Ann would be 49 today). Much of my art is based on this charater as well, example:

...

I get search queries, as many as 5-7 a day with 'Kirby Ann' 'Kirby Ann Bauer' 'Kirby Ann hair' Kirby Ann Kayla' and others in the keywords. Many geneology sites come up with my novel but most are Ann Kirby. Never have I seen a Kirby Ann anything in these sites.

I find this fascinating! Please, come read the story!

Note: I have this novel at another server that doesn't have the popups.

Hi rodent! Smiley
In all the baby name books and websites I've ever looked in, Kirby is actually listed as a boy's name. How did you come up with it for a female character?
Yes, I am a teenager, and currently have waist-length brown hair, though I wish it was black.  Smiley
I'm impressed with how extensive your story is. I'll try to read it if I can find the time.

KA, Hi. Kirby means 'from the church town', an old English name for a girl. I'm not real sure the exact circumstance when I chose Kayla and Kirby, but wanted an umcommon name starting with an uncommon letter. I think the names just came to me.

The lead for my other full length novel is Perla Dawn, probably even more uncommon.

So, what are your goals for hair length? I see you write as well. It's so fun and a great stress reliever!

Now to get to work on that last chapter........

...

PS, Robin - I finally got back on the bike. I rode two miles and got yet one more flat tire. UGHH!

SIR RAT!!!!  Welcome!  So glad to see you around these parts.

Hey - when is the next chapter??  I'm waiting!    Grin

Glad to hear you got back on your bike (you must have some nasty roads around you to get ANOTHER flat!)  I'm afraid I've made my last outside ride for the year.  Back to the trainer Tongue

My current goal is classic length. I've also always wanted hair long enough to sit on, but I think with my current lifestyle it'd be too much of a hassle to care for. Maybe someday...Smiley

And yes, I love to write as well, though I've never finished anything as expansive as you have (mostly for lack of  time). I plan on majoring in either English or writing in college, though I'm not totally sure what I want to do from there; perhaps freelance writing. We'll see. Smiley

Robin, the last chapter of the Best Friends novel is finished. 8)

The plan is to present the senior year as a sequel to the novel, (that is time permitting).... If not, at least I bring closure to the story.

~Another hair tale~

On my way home from a long cold day trudging in the ice on the airfield between the runways at Bloomingtom-Normal Airport with my Ill. field rep, we stopped at an an eating establishment for a bite. There was this hostess there with longer than waist dark brown/black hair that flowed and shined. She was maybe 17,18,19, or 20.

As I sat eating the largest steak on the menu, I had this thought that if this gal had another foot of length, she would no doubt be a double for Kirby Ann Bauer. I bet she took very good care of her tresses.

Whoever she was, she was really pretty. I would have liked to have said something to her, but nothing a rodent could muster would describe her. (or probably scared her since I'm much older and she was pretty young). I ended up with  a 'nice hair' mumble on the way out.

Silly Rodent.....I BS'ed a bunch of engineers all day but couldn't say a thing to a pretty hostess.......

Sir Rat;
I am happy and sad about this being the final chapter of Best Friends.  I will be sure to read it once January is over and I have a few minutes of my own time back.

As for the gal you couldn't come right out an say what you really wanted to say...... I believe that your warm, positive thoughts will somehow make their way to her.  Many of us receive few compliments on our hair in real life, but we KNOW our hair is being observed, appreciated, and even envied by the many who have no voice.  Your writing and artwork tells us how much you enjoy long hair - You do soooo much more than most in communicating.

Hey,I've been reading this story.I love it!I can relate to Kirby Ann(though I would never dare to sing in public, even if I like to sing).I will never have a hair color like Kirby Ann's mane has.Mine is a very dark brown.Well,it can look black in the right light. My own hair goal is knee length.

How cool is that.
I have an interesting story too(at least I hope you think it's interesting)
My boyfriend has an identical twin. He is getting married in about a month. His bride-to-be has butt length hair and it's brown. People think we are twins. This may be because our hair length or color or our smily personalities. I don't know. Mine is curly and her's is straight, but if you take the ends of both and mix them together in your hand, you can't tell which is which. Kind of fun. The fact that both our boys fell for girls like us is an interesting concept.  Smiley

As identical twins, it actually is not unusual that their interests are very similar.  There are many instances of twins marrying twins.
