Hello from a grey "Bunhead"
Jun 18th, 2004 at 7:34pm

Hello, everyone.

So glad to have found this site. I'm a 54 year old woman with long grey hair about down to my waist. When it gets tucked it into my jeans by accident, its time for a trim. I don't wear it down, though, because it gets in the soup. I mostly wear it in a bun. Went to my high school reunion, where one of the spouses nicknamed me "bunhead" because he couldn't remember my name. So, guess what hairstyle I wore to church on Easter Sunday? That's right, an Easter bun.  Cheesy

I collect hair combs. They're hard to find, so I don't have a very big collection, but I ask in every antique store I wander into. I don't buy mantilla style combs because I find them hard to wear.

I've also collected the hair from my comb after washing, enough to have made several "rats." I'd like to find some directions on how to style my own hair using the rats for more volume. I do not have a hairdresser, but will look for one on this forum.

I'm looking to expand my repertoire of updo hairstyles I can do myself.  I haven't explored all of the resources of this site, but I think I'll find some cool things when I do.

I have lots of thoughts about wearing long hair, but I think I'll save them for future posts in a more appropriate folder.

Best regards,

Welcome!!!
I'm assuming you have already found the Vintage Hair Combs on this site.  They are fantastic!!  I'd love to see pics of your hair with the hair combs you have.  I have yet to master using a comb in my hair.  I can handle the buns and braids, but that is about it.

I know I've seen a site that showed using rats with hair styles, but I can't seem to find the link just now.  If I find it, I will share it here.

Glad to see another 50-something here!

I thought your title was so funny, I had to read your intro. I can't say that I think the guy at the class reunion was very polite. (I think oaf is the word I'm looking for.) Your hair sounds beautiful and your comb collection very cool.
Thanks for the interesting story.
