Remember me? The swimmer?
Jul 2nd, 2004 at 7:32pm

i posted sumthin about chlorine affecting hair a while ago, and i got off on the topic of swimming. this has nothing to do w/ hair, but i hope the same person who replied about swimming in my other post will take notice. Any ways, the next high school  swim season is coming up in 2 months and i have gained a lil weight..mostly muscle, since i have been workin out and the extra muscle is visible. I need to get back what i used to have; 28 seconds on 50yd freestyle. what can i do to make me good again!!??!? i need it fast...my boyfriend is comin to the first meet! haha...he thinks im bad, and i need to show him that im not..or i wasnt, ( even though i lost it all ) HELP!

Getting back into shape is not a quick fix.  But you are young and it should not be near as difficult as it is for me!

If you aren't already swimming to get back into shape, you should try to.  If that's not an option, then any aerobic activity would be good.  Running, biking, blading are good.  Be sure to do lots of stretching before working out.  If you have access to a yoga class, you might try that.  Swimmers need to be very flexible, stretching is important.  Some light weight training is good when mixed with the cardio-vascular activities.

The most import thing is to get moving - get the heart and lungs working!

Good luck!

Tennis uses different muscles - the quick twitch muscles, so you can move quickly.  Swimming uses the long muscles.  Most serious swimmers do not take more than a 2 week break from the water.  And even then, they will notice some loss of conditioning.

You should regain your training fairly quickly if you get back into your water training.
