Return from Vacation #1
Jul 11th, 2004 at 2:14am

Just returned from week 1 of my vacation.  (2nd week will be in a month).

Weather was crappy.  It rained every day.  We set records for night-time lows, day-time highs at record lows.  Major bugs!  Then major humidity!

Still managed to bike most every day.  We drove a million miles trying to avoid even worse weather.

My hair survived by only washing it once. (Most campgrounds have poor water pressure, making it hard for me to wash my hair). I wore it in braids the whole time to keep it under control as well as "hide" the greasies.

Looks like everyone was quite chatty in my absence and we have a number of new members. Hello to everyone!

Now, now, Rapunzel.  You were officially notified in writing of my 2 weeks of vacation.  They are ALWAYS the week of the 4th of July and the first week of August (when the SAGBRAW bike trip occurs).

These 2 weeks off are much needed days of escapism from the craziness of my RL job.  Any other "days off" are much needed due to the crazy boss lady I work for online!

Nice to get away for a week. How are your sore muscles doing?

We have an annual 300 km bike race here and I've turned up several times to support participating friends. I reckon the best part is the depots they have every 20 km where you can eat, pee and get a massage to keep your muscles limber. I always wondered if I could sneak in just for the massage! Grin

No sore muscles.  I can usually ride 50 miles in a day without suffering (unless there are lots of hills or headwinds!)

My second week for biking is an organized ride - 1000 - 1200 riders.  We ride about 450 miles (724 km) in 6 days.  There aren't planned rest stops during the day for us, but we go through lots of little towns, so there is always someplace to stop and refuel.  At the end of the day, there are massage therapists to help you loosen up, but we've found heading for the local pool or lake for a swim works just as well.  We stay at high schools, who usually open their pool to us, making it very convenient.

The longest day ride for me was 82 miles (132k).  I was pretty tired that day, but still got up to ride again the next day.  I hope to do a century ride some day (100 miles), maybe this year??

Wow! Thighs of steel! *impressed*

I'm sure you can manage 100 miles if you have set your mind to it, just make sure you pre-approve it with Rapunzel!  Grin

Dear boss lady;
I hope to have your approval to bike lots and lots of miles.  I promise to hand out lots and lots of LongLocks cards, wear my LongLocks stix every evening (they don't fit under my helmet), and tell EVERYONE what beautiful sticks you make.  Will you pretty please, approve?????

Sincerely and respectfully,
your dutiful worker-bee,
