Introducing: Sakina

Hello all!
Call me Sakina, in Arabic it means God given peace of mind.
I don't know what that hair typing stuff is, but I'm naturally dark blond, coloring it red with highlights- very thick and wavy-except for the top layer that is straight as an arrow.
After many
bad haircuts
(having moved to a new state without knowing anyone) I am finally on my way to having what I like to call Goddess Hair once again!  While my hair is now just past the tops of my shoulders it is a triumph-the last bad cut I got left a hole in my hair just above my right ear.  What an ordeal getting that to grow out!
I am really enjoying reading all of the wisdom and empathy shared here.
I am officially addicted to Susan's hairstix-and an avid collector.
I'm always looking for new ways to do my do to wear my stix and match my outfits, too!
I've been reading about using vinegar to rinse the hair.  Could someone be more specific?  Apple cider vinegar?  How much-do you use it straight or dilute it?
I look forward to chatting with you more...
TTFN,
Sakina

Welcome Sakina.  Your hair sounds wonderful-- and a triumph indeed after the bad hair cut Tongue.  I think you'll find info about vinegar rinses under "Hair Care, Au Natural"

Warm Welcome! I love you're name - it's beautiful!

Judging from your post, I'll bet you could tell a few "hair-raising" traumatic hair cut stories. (A HOLE in your hair? *cringe* I had that happen to me once too. At the back of my head.)

Anyhoo, I look forward to seein your future posts.

Welcome, Sakina.

Vinegar is vinegar. I buy the gallon jugs of white vinegar. Each time I wash, I start with a rinse of 1/2 cup in 1 quart of warm water. I've never had the buildup problem that people use vinegar to remedy, and I attribute this to preemptive clarifying.

Thanks for the warm welcome!  I tried the vinegar rinse last night-pew!  I think I'll do it once a month or so, my hair seems a bit dry after using it and deep conditioning.

On a side note:  Sakina is my dance name.  You see, I am a bellydancer (tah dah!)  Just since April '04.  I'm looking forward to using my hair as it gets longer to highlight my dancing.
