What's your favourite season?
Feb 7th, 2007 at 12:10pm

Rank the seasons, in order of your preference.

My favourite is Spring.
The nice moderate temperatures, the sunshine, Easter, the beginning of planting season.
Next is Fall.
More moderate temperatures (i see a pattern here!), those beautiful autumn colours everywhere, Hallowe'en.
Third would be Summer.
(even with our terrible humidity, I'll take Summer over Winter every time) Sunshine, the gardens are in full swing, schools are out of session, family vacation time, BBQs, Indepence Day, --lots of holidays in the summertime, actually.
Winter is my least favourite of all.
Snow is pretty, but not if I have to drive around in it.  I hate bitter cold.

Okay, your turn!

I love ALL the seasons.  Each one is so different and offers something special that I can't pick one over another.  I guess that is why I love to live in MN - I have 4 very distinct seasons.

Winter:  I love the pristine beauty of the snow covered area.  Even a little ice storm creates wonderful crystalized trees.  The snow gently falling is a sight you must experience.  And after a big snow fall, things are so quiet - even in the city.  It really is beautiful.

Spring: The time of re-birth.  The budding trees, the tulips and daffodils blooming.  The grass getting the "first green" color that is so special.

Summer:  The days are warm and inviting to get outside and enjoy everything.

Fall:  The vibrant colors of the trees turning.  The musty smell of leaves that have fallen.  The crisp, cool air warning us of what is yet to come.  It is a time to prepare for colder, shorter days.  Out buildings must be closed up, plants prepared for the winter.  It is the end of the growing cycle, a time to enjoy the fruits of your labor.

Hello all,  I have decided to get in this also.

Fall is my favorite--burning leaves, changing temps, trees changing colors, earthy smells.

Spring is 2nd--new growth, spring shopping, warmer temps, daylight longer.

Winter is 3rd--colder temps, sitting by the fire.  SNOW is just glorious, living here in my part of Oregon, I dont get a lot of snow.

Summer---I dont like the heat, but bbqs, dinner outside w/friends, holidays, school is out, fresh mowed lawn. O Yeah!!!

My favorite is the fall:  Mainly because the temperatures are moderate even though fall does not last too long in the northewest of the U.S.

Summer:  I love the sunshine but I hate the heat.

Spring:  Here in Montana it can snow heavy into April and I hate ticks (or as some people call them wood ticks)

Winter:  I like the snow except drving in it (especially when it is icy) and I hate the bitter cold and wind.

They say eveyone has a season. I was told I was Fall and I belive this.  Roll Eyes

Fall: Is my favorite, red maple tree's, the air smells fresher, windy and stormy!

Spring: We do not get a real spring here in Canada, just plunk and its summer. Embarrassed

Winter:  Its nice to look at the pretty snow in the moonlight, but walking on my iced over driveway stinks!

Summer:  I hate summer days too hot, I prefer the night with a nice breeze! Cool

I'm a little different...ok, radically different. But that's not new.  Wink

Winter - my favourite season. Longer nights, far less light and I like the cold, even when it comes with a deadly bite. This is the time of year when I get to pull out all of the finest, heaviest, most elaborate pieces in my wardrobe and actually wear them. Christmas, New Year, my birthday, Valentine's Day...and a lot of other reasons that I probably couldn't explain properly nor expect them to be understood. SoCal doesn't get snow, except for in the mountains.

Autumn - 2nd favourite. You know you saw this one coming. Halloween. Enough said. And yeah, the cooler temps that come late in the season. Again, SoCal doesn't exhibit the typical staples of autumn - the only leaves that actually turn colour are on the liquidambar trees. The rest simply stay green year round or turn brown and fall off.

Spring - not a fan of this season. And between the light, longer days and high temps, it's sometimes difficult to distinguish this season from summer in SoCal. They usually just kind of blend together. Oh yes, and the fashion colour palette befitting a circus sideshow or a baby shower.  Tongue

Summer - what can I even say here? I hate summer. Bright. Hot. Insufferable. Long days, either dry or humid...a lot of burning and sweat. Yech.  Tongue

If I still lived at home, I'd say the season that passes for winter. It's a lot cooler and usually rainy. Any other time is often rather hot. After moving, though, I have to rank the seasons like this:

Fall--After hot, extremely humid weather, things are cooling down and the leaves turn color. Also, it's apple season and that's my favorite fruit.

Spring--The temperature is warming up and the vegetation is coming back to life. After months of dead-looking landscapes, the profusion of flowers is amazing. Also, for me, it's rather neat how each flower has its peak blooming period. I never got to see that where I used to live.

Winter--While I like how pale I get, and the lack of spiders and various bugs, I don't like how early the sun sets here. Also, I could do without freezing temperatures and the lack of central heating in this country. Snow is really pretty, but not after it thaws and re-freezes. And if there isn't any snow on the ground, the brown grass and bare trees is depressing.

Summer--It was a close tie with winter. I do like the fact that I don't have to use my heater anymore, but it's too dang humid. I don't think anyone should go to Japan in the summer. It's extremely muggy and there isn't any wind to cool things down. And summer is bug season. I have a great dislike of them. ick

Well said!
MN is good for that Smiley

I do love Autumn so much. Lately the fall season has been warm and wet. I think Id loathe a cold autumn, but I have been lucky. The smells, the colors, and that "pagan feeling" I get in the autumn!
The other three are wonderful in their own ways. Summer is nice because I can get away with not wearing much clothing. Cheesy Winter is fun until all the snow gets brown and vile from car exhaust, etc. It's a shame! And Spring is fun to watch everything bloom. This spring was rather dry if I remember, so I am relying on a wet autumn!!

Not that I'm bias, but since I was born in the Fall,it is my favorite season because of all the leaves changing pretty colors.  I like to say,"God is painting the trees a kaleidescope of colors!"  I love the crisp air,Indian Summer, apple cider and feel of change in the air.

Hmm.  I'd have to say fall as well.

I'd rank the seasons in Texas like this.

Fall - the leaves and grass are brown, (if we're lucky we get some color, but if we don't have a cold snap at the right time, the leaves just slowly brown and dry up.)  The weather is cooling (some days it can still get to the 90's, but the nights are usually cool) and it rains sometimes.  You can get some glorious days of blue skies and golden sunshine over the dried grass and leaves.  But mostly, the days are cool with the prospect of getting cooler.

Winter - the grass is brown, and the trees are gray outlines against the sky.  The artic winds travel down from Canada straight across the plains and into your bones, but the sun shines as much as it rains and it doesn't get above 80 on the even hottest day.  The coldest days can be 5 below.  No real snow except in the Panhandle.  In other places, if the snow goes over 4 -5 inches it is a HEAVY snowfall, and you only get snow once or twice a year, sometimes as much as four.

Spring - the grass is greening and the weather is warming.  Temperatures start reaching 80 on a regular basis.  You usually get caught with at least one suprise sunburn, because with the temperatures below 90 you just didn't realize you were in the sun that long.  The flowers and other plants are blooming, but it is all a harbinger of the heat to come.

Summer - temperatures reach the upper 90's daily, and cross 100 regularly.  The grass turns brown once again from heat and lack of water.  The sun pounds the earth and hurts your skin.  The world gains a whitish tint from the glare.  You plan your day so that any outdoor activities, unless they are water activities, are done before 10 or after 4.  Otherwise it is just too hot, and the risk of heat exhaustion too great.  You constantly guard against sunburn.

oh this sounds like fun!

ok here goes:

Summer: i love the warmth and being able to go outside more often. the birds are always singing and the animals are enjoing the sun. i love the flowers that come up during this time as well. this is my favorite season.

Autumn: autumn is alrihgt. i love the color of the leaves and its during the time of my favorite holiday Haloween!

Winter: the only reason i look forward to this season is because my son was born in january. so its not even really about the season just my son...lol. snow looks pretty but i hate shoveling and its always soooo cold.

Spring: this if a fairly reasonable season. i dont like all the mud but i love to watch the trees bud and watch nature come out of hybernation.

when im finally a licenced psychologist, i will move to a warmer climate. i just cannot stand winter. and id much rather my son be able to enjoy his birthday outside rather than inside beacuse of weather.

so there you have it. my favorite season is summer. my least favorite is winter. the other two fall somewhere in between.

My favorite is Spring.  Flowers begin to bloom, birds are singing, butterflies appear and everything turns green again.  And it all marks the beginning of the milder weather to come.  I no longer have to worry about layering for warmth and can wear the sundresses and sandals that I love so much.  Being outside, having the sun kiss your skin feels so nice and I love having lunches outside in the spring, it's perfect.

Second is Summer.  I love it for all of the same reasons that I love Spring however, summer does have a few down sides, the heat and humidity. But, being able to sit outside on a beautiful summer night makes up for any daytime discomforts.  Seeing fireflies, stars and hearing the sounds of crickets...I love it, it's so heavenly.  And theres nothing like the feel and smell of rain in the summer time.  Heavy night time thunderstorms, where when you wake up in the morning the ground is completely dry like nothing ever occured, are my favorite. Smiley
Another downside to summer, IMO that I forgot to mention is AC.  I love AC however I hate it when it's turned up way too high.  You dress appropriately for the weather however when you visit an establishment, it feels like it's 50 degrees inside. UGH! Angry  I know to make sure I take a sweater or wrap but I still think it's ridiculous.

Third Is Fall.  Of course I like the changing of the foliage and I like that the weather cools off a bit and being outside in the daytime becomes comfortable again but to me the temperature always plummets too fast to where it's so chilly it's uncomfortable and I have to start with the layering again.  I do like the evenings by the fire and the long warm baths that come along with the fall though.  As well as being able to sleep cozy in my warm bed on the colder mornings.

Lastly, and most blah IMO is Winter.  Need I say it?  I HATE the cold, I HATE to be cold.  I don't like having to throw on piles of clothes (indoors or out) in order to stay warm.  Just in case I didn't mention that already. Grin  I don't like the bare trees, although they don't look so bad at night in silouhette.  I love the sight of freshly fallen snow as long as I'm looking at it through the window of my home where I am warm.  Dirty slushy snow is the worst and I don't like the fact that in the winter the sky is typicallly gray all of the time.  Also and probably most shockingly, I'm not very fond of Christmas so I don't look forward to it.  I don't like the commercialism of it and I don't like the fact that if you feel this way you're considered a Scrooge.  I like giving gifts, but only when I feel moved to, not out of obligation.

I love autumn most. It's cooling off but still warm, the world is decorating itself again... there's less hated sunlight, and the world is turning towards darkness. It's a more goth oriented time. It feels like a time for reflection, rememberance, and often, regret. it's a wistful, haunting time, when the mist starts rolling in over the night, and apparitions may walk...

spring comes next, because it's once again, comfortable temperatures, pretty plants are blooming, the very air is perfumed with the scents of new life. however, some of those scents cause my beloved to become sick. also, it is gradually lightening into white hot heat and misery, although that is not, indeed, the fault or the feature of spring.

Winter follows next, although it is in close running with summer for most disliked. In its favor, it is the darkest of the seasons, where bundling up in dark cloaks and hiding your face is not only acceptable, but indeed, encouraged. It is quite nice to sit in front of a fire with our loved ones.

summer. heat. misery. you can't take off enough to make it cool. the air conditioner is never enough. icy showers bring scant relief. summer. ugh.
