Hello Everyone!!
Apr 15th, 2007 at 12:36am

Hello everyone, I found Long Locks yesterday, when google searching for pictures of beautiful, long hair to use as inspiration. I've been reading back topics, and everyone here seems so nice and helpful that I decided I'd join. Not to mention I'm full of questions, like, what exactly is 'classic' length? and, I've heard some of y'all mention S&D -i assume that means, search and destroy split ends, right? what are some good methods of doing this? I've been a while without a trim, and I don't really want to let a stranger near my hair with sharp objects unless I have to. If I can remove most/all of the split ends and breaks, I won't have to risk someone chopping off inches of hair.

So, for introductory Info...  lets see. My hair is currently 31 inches long. On me, that's roughly waist length(I'm sort of short @ 5'1).  Most of my hair is a medium reddish brown, and the top 6 or so inches is a darker brown. I did a lot of damage dying and re-dying my hair for years, (that ended when I almost fried most of it bleaching it to dye purple) now I'm trying to grow it out and get back my natural color. It's usually wavy, but I'm not actually sure how much of that is due to the amount of time my hair spends braided. Wink I'll have pics as soon as I can find batteries for the camera.

I've always been a Pantene girl, but I'd never even heard of leave in conditioner or hot oil treatments until my boyfriend taught me how to take care of my hair. Now Infusium 23 is one of my best friends, Cheesy. If anyone sees me without at least two or three pony tail holders on my wrists,(goodys' ouchless only!! no metal), then i'm probably wearing at least that many in my hair.

sorry for the long intro... any help/ answers would be greatly appreciated!

Welcome to Longlocks, Kiraela!

Classic length is to the bottom of your bottom.  S & D is to search and destroy splits.  Do this yourself with haircutting scissors and cut straight across, not at an angle.  They may be more visible for you if you hold the hair against a light colored background, since your haircolor is dark.

I hope you'll find those batteries soon, I'd love to see a pic!

Hello, Kiraela! Welcome aboard.  Smiley

You're very astute - S&D is indeed seek and destroy, although that isn't a method that I really use, so I'll let someone else provide the tips for that.

Like Sakina said, classic length is the bottom of your bottom, or the top of your thighs, or where your legs meet your behind. If this is your goal length, then I wish you all the luck in the world. Waist length is an accomplishment in itself!  Smiley

There are a few other Pantene girls here, as you'll discover. Myself included.  Wink  Which products do you prefer? Or do you just sorta use everything? I used to fancy myself a Pantene Restoratives convert, but these days, I'm not so sure...  Undecided

Anyway, it's lovely to meet you and I look forward to getting to know you and your hair better.

Angel Spun, I tend to use whatever I can get my hands on. I've tried the Ice shine and absolutely loved it. Never used the restoratives before. Right now I've got Daily moisture renewal shampoo, and I'm trying Suave naturals fresh berry smoothy conditioner. Although it smells very pretty, my hair doesn't seem to agree with it all that well. I think i'm going back to Ice Shine when this conditioner is gone. *nods*
Now that I know what classic length is, I have a name for my goal! Thank you all for your welcomes! I definately think i'm going to be sticking around here. Smiley
