You know, it's funny how in just over a year, your tastes can change so much... For instance, I was going through my CD collection the past few days, and some of the CDS, I pop in the player, listen to maybe one or two tracks... take out and look at like," why on earth did I like you??"  I'm not one for getting rid of CDS (I still have Ace of Base, for cats'sake!) But some of the Cds, maybe even ones I was "eh -_-" on, I listen to... and repeat... and repeat again... and oddly enough, I haven't yet put in my copy of Evanescence's Fallen... It's been a while since I've listened to it. You now, I almost feel bad about that... That CD is a connection to my past in so many ways... I first heard it while at my (VA) best friend's house in virginia... It became part of our weekly sleepover ritual to listen to it at least two or three times in amongst everything else going into the CD player... If I remember correctly, my SC best friend and I also played the heck out of the CD... It's what originally brought me closer to paul... In fact, one song is what got me to trust him as more than a friend(long story, don't ask) ....

It almost hurts sometimes, to listen to it, because of the memories it brings up... I don't know, maybe I'm attaching too much significance to what is, in effect, a round piece of plastic imprinted with the makings of audio waves... *shrugs*

I finally washed my hair with the Ice shine S&C I bought a few weeks ago.. Frankly, I've been doing a no wash trial out of sheer laziness... Couldn't be bothered to take the time to wash the hair, so up in a bun for a quick shower...

let me tell you... after three-four days without washing, my hair's a little oily. after a week(I used to go a week fairly often) it's still gathering oil... getting a little gross looking.
After two weeks, it keeps the shape of the ponytail after I take the band out. Not as in, loosely pulled back waves... more like, glued together gunky mass. It gets worse than that as it goes along... My hair never evens out... it just keeps makin' gunk.

No thank you, I'll stick with my cleaning products. *shudder*

*trisha, I'd love to see a picture of... "tootie-bug(?! Tongue)"

I've been following Galadriel's simple dress experiment with interest, and I think I am going to start my own slightly different version. Rather than dresses like hers, I would like to do traditional irish leine(chemise) and simplified irish/celtic dresses. I've found patterns I'd like to attempt, all I need is to actually acquire them and fabric. Well, and sewing skills, although I figure that will come with practice. I've already accustomed myself to only wearing skirts/dresses (except my jammie pants, and only one pair of those are comfortable, so I don't wear pajama pants but once/twice a week), so the transition will not be very difficult. I may keep some of my more gothy wardrobe items for when Paul and I go out to shows, although actually, I could make a red leine, and I know I'll have at least one black overdress, so that might work just as well! other than that, it will be nice to get rid of all the T-shirts, unworn pants, rarely worn "closet" items ( some of my tighter skirts, fancy shirts, ect...) ... I suspect it will be freeing, and the clothing I'll be wearing will be actually comfortable and .. I can't think of the word... flattering, maybe?

To that end, next time I go to wal-mart, I'm buying this :http://www.smartcart.com/1sew/cgi/display.cgi?item_num=3623sim pattern, and I've just purchased my first chemise through Ebay ( http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180164363828&ru=http%3A%2F%2F... ), since the Leine pattern I want is fairly expensive. (the underskirt/blouse that comes with the pattern doesn't appear to be what I'm looking for, So I'll likely go with this: http://www.sewingcentral.com/cgi-bin/Web_store/web_store.cgi?page=pay015.html&ca... , or something similar. I'm really looking forward to this, although it might take me a while to implement. (although if Paul enjoys regular meals, he won't make it take too long... (yes, I will hold threat of cook-striking until he takes me to wal-mart if I have to)...

On another note, I think Angel Spun and I, despite completely different hair types, may in fact, be hair (fraternal)twins... Mine has never been so happy as when it's being treated with Pantene Ice Shine.
Although, don't you just hate it when one day, you do an absolutely beautiful style, and then go to repeat it the next day and you can't get it to look better than "craptacular"...
Rope buns do that to me all the time. yesterday it was fantabulous. today... I couldn't even get it to hold.. I ended up going to a slightly modified regular braided bun that looks great, so I guess I can't complain (too much Tongue)

Sometimes I wish more ladies were more willing to wear dresses and skirts, especially the long haired ladies Cool

I think it is ok if they wore pants, sweat pants and shorts but it seems like most women these days prefer pants and might wear a skirt or dress to something special like a wedding or special occasion.

But, from what I understand it was around the 1950's when more women started wearing pants and it became more acceptable in society (in the U.S. anyway).

But, my opinion is that a lady should wear what she is most comfortable in kind of like I prefer to wear blue jeans unless it is too hot and then I will wear shorts Roll Eyes

hehehe  Grin  Fraternal hair twins...I like that. And Ice Shine rox!

As for the styling woes, I seldom venture away from the standard braid or side part, so it doesn't get too crazy. I usually stick to fairly simple styles, and if they come out looking...er, "craptacular", I just fix them or redo them until I can deem them "acceptable."  Roll Eyes

Thanks for your well wishes, everybody! *hugs*  Angel: eh, I just call it as I see it Tongue (growing up, my brother was always the witty, amusing one. I'm just... weird... and it sorta comes out on it's own)

Foot: the injured toe is swollen, painful, and is making it difficult to walk (too much pressure/movement of the foot from arch down causes much ow)... It doesn't appear to be infected, simply healing angrily. I've been peroxiding it regularly.

Unfortunately, a few days ago I'd agreed to go with my friend to her doctor's appt... she needs somebody to go get a wheelchair and make sure everything is set before she leaves the car... and no one else was available, so I kept my commitment and went anyway. I tried wearing a shoe... much screaming and blood stoppage later, I figured wrapping my entire foot in an ace bandage(padding!) and several socks would have to do...  Needless to say, I was in bad shape when I got home... took a nap, and woke up to the (evil demon)cat peeing on the bed. Of course, later I cleaned the litterbox (I do so every day, it's not like she's peeing elsewhere to protest a dirty box... she's just a B#%ch), and went to stand up using the towel rack as an assist(sore foot not taking weight, and all) and ended up with the ceramic bar-holder breaking free from the wall and whacking me in the head. I'm really starting to think that wrapping myself in bubble wrap (with air holes, or at least nose-straws) might be a good idea.

Several tylenol, Ibuprofen, and another nice nap (and some yummy kung pow beef stir-fry) later, And I'm feeling better.

It's sad though, I've come to the realization that it's a very good thing that everybody who meets Emma-kitty adores her... If paul tried to make me choose between him and my baby, I'm pretty sure I'd be trying to find transport back to missouri! I'm not sure but I think I might love my cat almost too much. Then again, I'm pretty sure that given half a chance, at least two avowwed cat haters (one of which has previously killed at least one cat( Angry) would take her home and treat her like a princess.

Speaking of which: ...

can we say awww?  I came home from grocery shopping and emma didn't come running to greet me like she usually does... I was concerned so went looking for her. Turns out the silly thing was too busy napping. Right now she's curled up under the sheet with her head on my pillow... I seriously don't think she 100% realizes she's a cat.

Hey Kiraela!  I don't think I've ever left a comment in your journal, but I saw this post and I had to comment!  Your fur-baby is soooo cute!  *coos*  Okay, I can handle myself.  Sort of.  LOL!

Thanks, Novus Femina! I think she's adorable too... except when she walks around the house yelling for no apparent reason, like right now. *twitch* she's been doing it almost nonstop for two days, and she's not even in heat. just... bored I think. then again, she's the kitty equivalent of a teenager, so she's probably just pushing mommy to see how far she can go before I snap.

Anyway, Angel, yeah I typically try something three or four times... when it doesn't work after that I give up. I have never managed a successful side part. I can do figure 8 buns, complicated braided buns, sock buns... braids of various sorts... a simple side part? neh-eh. no go. The hair parts in the middle... it will not go any other way. (I once (with shoulder length hair) ended up with a sort of floppy shark fin thing going on, when I tried parting on the left... the hair went over the top of my head and all, but there was a 1/2- 1 1/2'' gap between the extra hair from the left, and the hair that naturally falls to the right, even after brushing it down and wetting it.

Okay, I know it wasn't funny to experience, and my husband tells me I am one of those sick people that laugh at AFV, but your post made me giggle (in a completely sympathetic sort of way.)  Don't days just go like that sometimes?

This is another song, one of the first I wrote. It's rather a creepy lullaby when sung properly.

NIGHTMARES

Up from the sea they come every night
Glacial hides, sea-foam manes, and hearts of ice
Can you feel their power and majesty
Calling you?

You know to touch is doom
Destined to become
A bringer of dreams
Nightmares and terrors
You’ll see them all
Not one heart will you comfort
Not one child will you soothe

Up from the sea they come every night
Captivating our minds and our hearts
Can you feel their danger and beauty
Calling you?

You run out in the surf
Reaching for the future
And bringers of dreams
Nightmares and terrors,
You’ll see them all
But also will you see
Daydreams and visions
Wishes and hopes
All that you gave up
All you’ll never have.

I almost wish my voice weren't so craptacular when recorded... I'd find someone to put music behind these things. (IDK why, it's annoying as heck, maybe it's just the fact I've only ever used the cheapo stick-mics that come with computers... never Paul's condenser mic... but then, we can't find the power cord for the pre-amp, and it's a pain in the ass to get all the adaptors lined up properly to plug it into the computer (he really needs to custom-make one for that).. yeah, the future-studio needs a bit of work)

Hehehehe.. maybe she's still getting used to her home, and calling out for friends!  Our cat, Farley has been acting particularly needy lately, climbing up in your lap, demanding cuddles, greeting us at the door, etc.  I petted him for a good ten minutes this morning, and he was still hollering at me.  Maybe there's something in the fall air?  Hehehehe...

Have you ever tried parting your hair when it's wet and letting it dry with a side part, Kiraela?  I can only manage to get clean parts (side or in the middle) by making them when my hair's wet.  Other than that.. pfft, I kinda have to let it do it's thing....

Well, she's been here since just past new years, so I HOPE she's not still getting used to it. I think she's bored and wants something to do... I opened the windows into the back yard, and now each cat has a windowsill, sitting in the breeze and watching squirrels and ironworkers. It may storm soon(which is why I opened the windows, I love pre-storm breezes...) so I might have to close the windows (my sewing machine is right underneath one, and I don't want that to get wet~! I've got work to do.)

I've not tried that, my hair is hard to deal with when wet(tangles horribly no matte what i do)

I pretty much let it do it's thing, which happens to be a middle part(well, middle to a teensy bit left of middle) part.

You get a lot more adventurous with styles than I dare to.  Grin  My hair parts naturally on the left side, so it takes zero effort on my part. I love the look of elaborate braids, but such would be terribly delicate work with my hair...it's all I can do to keep these sinewy little webs from breaking with a single braid! Sux...   Undecided

kiraela, the hair and dress styles sound cool. your cat is very cute!  and if you actually do start sewing these patterns, you will be my hero, because i've always wanted to try that...but haven't learned yet.

oh, I am going to start sewing more.. the question is, when? We've got to have time late at night to go to walmart (parking lot is empty, and both Paul and I have... problems... with large crowds, although his is more severe...) so I can browse fabrics and get the pattern, unless it's more than the online price+shipping... Of course, that means that paul has to be feeling okay, and not too tired, so we have to have just finished a job and gotten paid ( not worked that day, so not tired, and also not painful, and also have money)... I'm hoping after they install the stair rail that Paul and AJ(see below) are building. I'm pretty well going to have to start from scratch on supplies though.. I own one working sewing machine (plus various feet and spare needles), two spools of black thread, one spool of white thread, and a spool of hot pink. (dont' ask, it came with the defunct sewing machine)

Yep, I've got a cabinet machine from '56 or so, that doesn't entirely work, not to mention the pin that holds the thead spool snapped off... although the table does make a very good place for my machine... the top folds out flat, and the door opens to keep all my stuff on...I like it very much, although even if the machine did, in fact, work, I'd use my fairly new(early 2000s) Brother sewing machine, both for the fact that it was a gift from my mother, and the fact that it's frankly, got a metric arse-ton of functions. It does things I don't know the names of, much less see any practical use for(although I'm sure I will, in time... LOL Undecided)

When My friend and I were at the Goodwill store the other day, I found a satin... top... thingie... (no clue what the heck to call it) that is turning into quite a nice bodice, although I need proper lacing cord(bright red boot laces don't quite work very well)...  so I'm getting QUITE good at button holes (to strengthen the hole, I went over each hole three times... fourteen button holes per edge... with two lacings-areas... so four edges...  *gets out calculator* that's approximately 170 button holes.... *shudder*  It works nicely though... None of the button holes have shredded, which with as tight as I laced it to check, that's impressive (i'm pretty sure a single pass would have torn out) although for actual wear, I'm not going to have it near that tight (I have neither the figure, nor the interest, for proper corsetting)  I imagine the bodice will look fantabulous with my new chemise and a dark red skirt... *can't wait to find out*

also, recently, I've made a small custom pillowcase for a weird shaped pillow, for my friend(the sick one, with which i went goodwill shopping, henceforth known as D for simplicity)... I'm slowly figuring out this machine and I think I am gathering enough skill to sew something wearable, if not impressive.

I braided my hair for sleep last night, and got a random whim and checked out how it looks from behind... GEEZE. I had no idea my braids looked that long. Past BSL, and the longest ends actually pass my natural waist (about 2-3" below BSL(tiny torso+high waist))!  I'm close to getting the waist length braid I wanted, although it doesn't feel long yet(once again, high waist...) although it's getting long enough that the pony tail holder on the end gets trapped beneath me when I lay on my side, and feels like I'm sleeping on a rock, so I've taken to holding the tail to keep it from doing that. It's almost become another ... thing... like my stuffed tiger.

Also, as of saturday(I think it was) we've got a guy working with Paul again. Not quite employee, not quite partner... Paul's calling him an "associate"... which fits as well as anything. Although it's odd, with the last guy we had working with Paul, one often had to go drag him out of his house, fight with his wife about allowing him to work (she wants money, but not to have him leave, even though she severely dislikes him.. 'tis odd)... etc.. basically it was a pain in the arse.

With AJ, he calls before he leaves in the morning to give me time to wake Paul up before he gets here! Rather than having to push our guy to make him work, both paul and I are pretty much having to run to keep up!  The good news is, for the past few days, I've been going to bed at an almost decent hour  (midnight, approximately) and getting up early. you know, like HUMANS do.... I'm still adjusting to this morning thing again, though... I'm having to drink a coffee/energy drink to wake up (Monster Java is like what starbucks would be, if they added red bull, and made their coffee... decent tasting... basically it rocks)

Oh, yes, my stepdad and I got into a conversation the other day about hair, and he's growing his out now! YAY! also, he's a lurker here... I'm trying to get him to register and say hello, but.. anyway, everybody say hi to Mike (Rastilyn, most likely if he does register) *waves* hi Mike!
