Long to short, and Britney!
May 2nd, 2007 at 2:29pm

Long to short.  I know i know, saying such things on this site is almost as bad as mouthing four letter words.  i agree, i like girls with long hair (though not saying they should be, girl power!).  anyways, what does everything think about it on here?  i know whenever i've gone through a drastic hair change it's been one of those defining outward actions that changes the way i look completely and relieves some of the stuff going on inside.

i will never go from dyed dark brown to blond in one sitting again, what was i smoking!?

also, what is your take on the whole britney extravaganza?  girl was obviously smoking something.
natalie portman?  must say, she looked amazing.

so long to short?  would you ever?

Hello,

I sent you a private message on this subject.  I have often thought of having my hair cut off!  I would hate the outcome though...I know!  is your hair short now?

Been there.....done that.  I went from waist length to pixie in a single sitting.  I was ready to cut my locks - I had looked forward to the day.  I pregnant and did not want to deal with my hair at the same time I was learning to care for my baby.  I never regretted the cut.  I did grow it out again, many years later.  If/when I decide I am ready to leave the world of long locks, I will again return to my pixie......don't worry - I don't have a date picked out yet!  Grin

i've done it twice.  from almost waist length to above the shoulders.  both times after a major breakup and i felt like i needed a complete start-over.  i always hated it, it looks like a poofy little helmet, but it relieves so much stress.  just the feeling of all that weight off your head is amazing.

yeah, I agree that a drastic change, such as whacking off all your hair, is a good way to relieve stress.  BUT, for some of us it doesn’t look so hot.  Bikerbraid, you lucked out!

Also, lately i’ve been totally into “Shear Genius” (on Bravo on Weds @ 10).  If any of you remember Project Runway, it’s similar in that it highlights a bunch of cat fights, but different in that the end result is beautiful hair.  We all want that, I know I do!  To answer you blondestorm, I have short hair now, thanks for the PM, chat me up on this board.

Stacy, my hair is poofy too, don’t you hate that?  Have you tried Oscar Blandi’s Luce?  I’ve noticed it really weighs down my hair so that it’s not so poof poof puffy, lol.

Drastic changes are signs of insecurity, especially when they follow a breakup. They're often a diversion tactic, used to lead attention away from the more serious issues at hand. Not only that, but they are temporary "fixes" much like substance abuse, and only serve to prolong the inevitable.

It takes a lot of time for one to grow their hair long. Therefore, their hair will be with them through each and every experience along the way...joys, sorrows, frustrations, conflictions...so there is, in a sense, a lot of "energy" stored in the hair. Its condition will also reflect said experiences and therefore tell the story of your life.
When people cut their long hair short, they often feel relief, as in being set free from their past because they are parting with the "energy" from all of those years before, which they feel is stored in their hair.

I, however, would never cut my hair drastically for anything other than pure necessity. Several years ago, I had to do just that after a terrible colouring fiasco. I went from waist length to shoulder length and finally to 6" all over just to remove every trace of unnatural colour.  Cry  I didn't want to part with the length, but it was a necessary sacrifice.
From that point on, I vowed to grow back every inch that I had lost, and take much better care of it in the process.

I would never cut or alter my hair in any way on a whim, because I know that I would instantly regret it. Salons are my hair's natural enemy anyway. Nor would I ever cut it after a breakup. Please! No guy on earth is worth that.  Roll Eyes  Life has thrown some pretty horrible things my way. Lots of them, actually. But I choose to deal with them directly as they come along and not take it out on my hair. The only way to take the pain away is to confront it, not run from it or distract yourself from it.

As for Britney, who cares? Seriously.

I agree!
And for those who are "in to" gossip.... I heard 2 different reasons for her shave:

1.  Her extensions were so bad she couldn't comb/brush her hair.

2.  She was afraid they would test her hair to prove her drug use and use that to take her kids away from her.

Either one would show how messed up she is.  I hope she eventually realizes that she has to be responsible for her actions.

regarding britney, i hadn't heard about the extensions fiasco, but i had definitely heard that she might have cut it off due to drug use-- what a shame.

don't you haaaaate when you dye your hair and they mess it up?  it is so wrong, considering you went in the first place to make it pretty.  i so hear you angel spun.

so what is everyone's take on SHEAR GENIUS?
it takes Project Runway to a whole new level, cut and color in 2 hours!? jesus christ! i loved the one episode when they made the contestants use household tools to cut hair, one girl had to use hedge-cutting shears-- crazy!

Eh, I've watched a few episodes. Some of the styles are really pretty (even some short ones *ducks tomatoes* ) but some of the things they do to the poor girls' hair is absolutely awful. The one episode where they had to use props???? They took girls with long, shiny gorgeous hair and ... ratted, matted,  fryed, sprayed,  and stuck wicker balls(?!) into it.

Eh, not my style.

Not to mention the episode where they had to take level !10! hair and bleach it to at least !8! in two hours.

IF anyone did that in real life they'd probably end up with NO HAIR LEFT.

So, not my style. Sorry.

(and that blonde australian(?) woman is not very nice.)

yeah, the whole episode where they had to bleach the hair out in 2 hours was crazy!  i mean, bleach, tone, and color!?  that just isn't possible.  i love that the rocker dude who doesn't do color did better than some of the others.  i really like his work, he definitely has a point-of-view.

i know, the props!  the wicker balls were terrible.  i just remember that one dude who was the previous winner putting a boa into his "birds of paradise" hair, and it just suuuuuucked.

regarding the blonde australian, she's one of my favorites even though she does look like Spock from Star Trek with her crazy jumpsuits!  why does her face look so wrong?

...
the similarities are uncanny!

ALSO:        Shear Genius is joining up with ALLURE and they're giving away a free complete beauty makeover, in NYC!  we're talking makeup, hair (of course), and a $500 shopping spree!  Check it out @ http://condenast.eprize.net/alluresheargenius/?affiliate_id=1d , all you gotta do is register.

don't you LOVE free stuff?

OMG, that sounds horrible!!  Shocked

Generally, I can't stand television, so I rarely ever watch it. Thus, I've never seen an episode of Shear Genius...

Hello Smiley
Thought I might join in the fun.

Cutting and salons... been there and done that lol
I once spent about 8 hours in the hair salon... a stylist in training dyed my hair purple by accident doing multi-coloured streaks.  Spent the whole day having it done and then re-done to fix it LOL

As for getting it cut... the stylist is now a person I watch very carefully after the layering fiasco.

Does anyone here like layers? or know how to actually do an up-do with them?

I've been trying to grow mine out for about a year now... not to mention avoiding cutting all the blond streaks out since they have grown out some and I have about 4 inches of natural hair.  I've vowed never to cut my hair into layers or short again LOL I can't stand it 2 days after I've done it.

As for Britney... she needs to get out of LA and get her act together.

Layers and updos can be a challenge.  The longer the shortest hair is, the easier an updo will be, but I know of few updo styles that work easily with layers.

Yes, Britney needs help...... LOTS of help.

i did that once when i was younger and would never do it again. if i were to go short i would do it stages that way if i decided i wanted to stop it wouldnt be to short that regretted it.

i think britney spears is trying to gain attetntion because she needs some serious help. shes probably holding in her true feelings about something and is acting out in strange ways or bad ways.

as for natalie portman. i loved her long hair. when she shaved it i thought what did you do?!? i know a lot of people like it, but i didnt. some girls are able to pull short lengths off but i dont think she is one of them. i do love her as an actress though she is very pretty.
